The Galaxy A36 5G is the larger-screen option, with a higher listed battery capacity and six years of stated OS and security updates. The Galaxy S24 5G is the more compact choice and has the higher water-resistance rating in the specifications reviewed. Which makes more sense depends on the price and availability of the exact model in your market: Samsung’s US price files show a historical $300 list-price gap, not what either phone costs today.
Galaxy S24 vs A36: the key differences
The A36 is a 6.7-inch phone; the S24 is listed at 6.2 inches. Samsung’s A36 product page supplies its specifications, while the S24 figures below come from NDTV Gadgets360’s comparison table. Price figures are from Samsung’s US MSRP files and are not live offers.

The specifications do not establish a winner for speed, camera quality, or battery runtime. Camera megapixels describe resolution, not the quality of the resulting photos, and battery capacity is not an endurance test.

Choose the A36 if you want a larger viewing area for reading, video, or other content. Its 6.7-inch display is 0.5 inches larger diagonally than the S24’s 6.2-inch display, based on the figures in the cited comparison sources. The S24 is the more compact option on the available display-size data. These figures do not substitute for checking each phone’s dimensions and weight if pocketability or one-handed use is a priority.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
Samsung specifies the A36’s display as FHD+ Super AMOLED with a 120 Hz refresh rate and lists 1,200 nits HBM peak brightness. The comparison table lists a 120 Hz refresh rate for the S24. The reviewed sources do not provide a like-for-like brightness comparison, so those details alone do not establish which screen looks better in every setting.
What do the battery figures tell you?
The A36 has a listed typical capacity of 5,000 mAh, compared with 4,000 mAh for the S24 in the secondary comparison table. That is a capacity difference, not a promise of extra hours between charges. Actual battery life varies with factors such as apps, screen settings, signal strength, and network use; no controlled runtime comparison was available.

How do the cameras compare?
The comparison table lists three rear-camera resolutions for each phone: 50 MP, 8 MP, and 5 MP for the A36; 50 MP, 12 MP, and 10 MP for the S24. These numbers do not show which phone takes better photos. No controlled camera comparison was available, so consider a model-specific camera review if image quality is a deciding factor.

Samsung rates the A36 IP67, while the comparison table lists IP68 for the S24. The A36’s rating is based on testing in up to 1 meter of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, according to Samsung’s product-page footnote. Samsung also says resistance can diminish with wear. An IP rating is not a guarantee against damage, and neither rating means a phone should be used freely in a pool or at the beach.

How long will each phone receive software updates?
Samsung says the A36 receives six years of OS and security updates. Update availability and timing can vary by market and device model, according to Samsung. The sources reviewed do not establish a directly comparable remaining support period for the S24 in a specific market or for a specific variant. Check the policy for the exact device you plan to buy rather than assuming the A36 necessarily has more support remaining.
What is the S24 vs A36 price difference?
Samsung’s March 2025 US MSRP file listed the unlocked 128GB S24 at $699.99 and the unlocked 128GB A36 at $399.99—a $300 difference in that dated list. Those amounts are historical US list prices, not current street prices. Samsung’s March 2026 price file still shows $399.99 in the A36 SKU’s MSRP column but marks that 128GB unlocked SKU EOL; the file notes that prices can change.

Availability is also seller- and channel-specific. Samsung’s US S24 page reported the phone sold out when checked, and AT&T’s comparison page showed both models unavailable through its channel. Neither status proves that a phone is unavailable everywhere. Compare live local listings for the same storage, condition, carrier-lock status, and warranty before deciding that the old MSRP gap reflects today’s value.
Which should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy A36 5G if
- You prefer a larger 6.7-inch display.
- The higher listed battery capacity matters to you, while recognizing it does not establish longer tested runtime.
- You value Samsung’s stated six-year OS and security update policy, subject to market and model timing.
- You find an available A36 at a sensible local price for the condition, storage, and warranty offered.
Consider the Galaxy S24 5G if
- You specifically want a more compact phone, with a 6.2-inch display listed in the comparison table.
- You prefer the higher IP68 rating listed for it.
- You find a suitable offer and have verified its condition, warranty, carrier compatibility, and storage.
Samsung says the A36’s 45 W charger is sold separately. Check the listing for included accessories and the exact SKU, especially when comparing the cost of a phone and any charger you may need. Samsung also lists A36 case and screen-protector categories; no particular third-party accessory compatibility was established.
