It is harder to justify if you want a smaller phone or expect a major camera leap: reviewers praised its screen, performance, battery life and versatility, but one found the camera advance less dramatic than earlier generations. Current local pricing is not established here, so whether it is worth buying depends on the price you find and how much you value those Ultra-specific features.
What the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers
Samsung lists a 6.8-inch display and S Pen functionality for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. That combination makes it a large-format phone with a built-in tool for handwriting and quick notes, rather than a compact handset with a stylus as an afterthought. Samsung says the S Pen can be used for jotting thoughts in Samsung Notes and writing messages or emails. Samsung’s model comparison and support page describes those features.

The rear camera system spans four focal-length roles: a 200MP wide camera, a 12MP ultrawide, a 50MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, according to Samsung’s specifications. That gives you more dedicated framing options than a phone built around a single main camera and digital cropping, although specifications alone do not establish how much better any particular photograph will look.

| Strengths | Trade-offs |
|---|---|
| Built-in S Pen for notes and writing; Samsung specifies a 6.8-inch display. | The large Ultra format will not suit everyone who prioritizes easy one-handed handling. |
| Four rear cameras include 3x and 5x optical telephoto options alongside wide and ultrawide cameras. | The Guardian’s 2024 review judged the camera progress less dramatic than earlier generations; that is a reviewer assessment, not a standardized comparison. |
| Samsung publishes a commitment to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. | Update rollout timing and regional details can vary. |
| Tom’s Guide and The Guardian offered positive assessments of the display, performance, battery life and camera versatility. | Battery life depends on network conditions and use, and no independent battery-test runtime is established in the sources cited here. |
| A broad feature set can make it a capable all-in-one premium Android phone. | Current local price, availability, storage-tier pricing and condition were not established. |
How good are the display, performance and battery?
Tom’s Guide and The Guardian praised the display and performance in their published reviews. Those are editorial assessments, not results from a side-by-side test conducted for this article. The 6.8-inch size is a clear advantage for readers who prefer a roomy screen for reading, media or note-taking, but it also makes the phone a poor fit for someone prioritizing a small, easy-to-handle device.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Both reviews described battery life favorably, but that should not be read as a guaranteed number of hours. Samsung cautions that “Actual battery life may vary depending on network environment, usage patterns and other factors.” The cited material does not provide an independently verified standardized runtime figure for this article.
Do the cameras make it a meaningful upgrade?
The camera hardware covers a useful range: ultrawide framing, a main wide camera, and dedicated 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras. That versatility is the clearest case for the system if you regularly photograph subjects at different distances. The 200MP wide-camera figure and megapixel counts describe sensor specifications; they do not by themselves guarantee better photos in every lighting condition or prove an improvement over another phone.
Rank #2
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
The Guardian’s February 2024 review praised the phone’s camera versatility but considered the camera advance less dramatic than those of earlier generations. This makes the upgrade question personal: owners of an older phone with a camera system they already like may value the S24 Ultra’s zoom choices without feeling that image quality alone demands a switch. The sources cited here do not establish a standardized, direct camera test against its predecessor.
How long will Samsung support it?
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra Product Environmental Report states a commitment of seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That is a substantial published support promise for buyers who plan to keep a phone for years. It is Samsung’s commitment, not a guarantee that every update arrives everywhere on the same date; rollout timing and regional details can vary. Samsung’s environmental report contains the commitment.

Is the Galaxy S24 Ultra worth buying?
It is a strong candidate if you specifically want a built-in stylus, a large screen, multiple optical zoom options and a long published software-support commitment in one phone. The case is weaker if you mainly want a compact handset, are satisfied with your current camera, or would pay a premium without using the S Pen and zoom range.
There is no current-price verdict to give: The Guardian reported launch prices for the 256GB configuration on February 5, 2024—£1,249, €1,469, $1,299.99 and A$2,199—but those are historical launch figures, not current market prices. Check the price, storage tier, seller, condition and local availability where you plan to buy. At a price you consider fair for the features you will actually use, the S24 Ultra’s combination is compelling; at a premium you cannot justify with those needs, its size and incremental camera gains make it easier to pass.

Accessories and practical checks
Samsung identifies compatible cases, USB-C cables, charging adapters and anti-reflection screen protectors as accessory categories. Confirm that any accessory listing is specifically compatible with the Galaxy S24 Ultra and check current product details before purchase. Samsung’s support page describes the accessory categories; it does not establish endorsement of a particular third-party product.
