The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the pick for a larger, foldable screen; the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the conventional, non-folding phone. Samsung lists the Fold8 from $1,899.99 in the U.S., while its U.S. S24 Ultra page currently shows the older phone as sold out. The available S24 Ultra prices are historical 2024 MSRPs, so they do not establish a reliable current price difference.

What the different screens mean in daily use
Galaxy Z Fold8: more room when unfolded
The Fold8 pairs a 5.5-inch cover display with a 7.6-inch inner screen. The inner screen’s 4:3 shape is the defining practical difference: it offers a wider workspace for reading, media and side-by-side tasks than a conventional phone screen. That extra screen area is useful only if you expect to unfold the device regularly; it does not, by itself, prove the phone is the better purchase.
Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 g and 4.5 mm thick. The product listing does not make clear in the evidence available here whether that thickness measurement describes the phone folded or unfolded, so it should not be treated as a like-for-like thickness comparison against the S24 Ultra.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Galaxy S24 Ultra: no folding-screen trade-off
The S24 Ultra has a conventional, non-folding design. Choose that form factor if a folding display is not central to how you use a phone. The available official S24 Ultra page does not supply comparable measurements here, so no screen-size or weight advantage can be quantified from these figures.
Price difference and U.S. availability
Samsung’s U.S. Fold8 listing starts at $1,899.99. Samsung’s S24 Ultra U.S. page marks the model sold out from Samsung direct. That is a current listing status, not proof that the phone cannot be found elsewhere; carrier, marketplace and refurbished stock may differ. Rank #2
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
For context—not as a current quote—Samsung’s U.S. MSRP file effective March 2024 listed the S24 Ultra at $1,299.99 for 256 GB and $1,419.99 for 512 GB. Those are historical launch-era MSRPs, not today’s transaction prices. Comparing either one directly with the Fold8’s current starting listing would mix dates and potentially storage configurations, so the difference is not a reliable measure of what a buyer will pay now. Fold8 features and trade-offs to check
Battery claim
Samsung lists a 4,800 mAh battery and claims up to 26 hours of video playback for the Fold8. The playback figure is a manufacturer claim under Samsung’s test conditions, not a promise of everyday battery life. The available official S24 Ultra source does not provide a comparable battery figure, so these sources cannot establish which lasts longer in typical use. [Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 product listing]
Cameras
The standard Fold8 has 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultra-wide rear cameras, plus 10 MP cameras on both the cover screen and main screen, according to Samsung. Samsung distinguishes this camera system from the Fold8 Ultra’s. These specifications describe resolution and camera placement, not comparative photo quality; the available evidence does not establish a camera winner over the S24 Ultra. Rank #4
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Processor, storage and S Pen
Samsung names the Fold8 processor as Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and offers 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage. The standard Fold8 does not support an SD card or S Pen. If S Pen use is essential, that Fold8 compatibility limit matters; check the exact S24 Ultra configuration and features with its seller before deciding. The official S24 Ultra source available here does not provide a comparable processor or storage specification. [Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 product listing]
Which phone should you buy?
- Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you expect to use the unfolded 7.6-inch screen for reading, media or side-by-side work, and its lack of S Pen support suits your needs.
- Choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra if you prefer a conventional non-folding phone. Because Samsung lists it as sold out direct in the U.S., verify stock, storage, condition and seller before relying on a listing.
- Compare live offers before deciding on price. Match storage, seller, condition and date; the historical S24 Ultra MSRPs are not a valid substitute for a current retail quote.
For either model, confirm the exact device and storage, new or refurbished condition, seller, current stock and regional compatibility in the listing. Samsung’s pages and announcement do not establish comparative repair costs or durability, so those should not be assumed from the form factor alone.
