The Galaxy S26+ launched in the US at $1,099.99, $100 above the Galaxy S24+’s $999.99 starting launch price. The newer model brings a newer processor generation and launched with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, but Samsung’s headline specifications remain similar: both have a 6.7-inch QHD+ display, a 4,900mAh typical battery, and a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto rear-camera setup. Those are historical US launch prices, not current street prices.
How much more did the Galaxy S26+ cost at launch?
Samsung listed the 256GB Galaxy S24+ at $999.99 when it launched in the US in 2024. The US starting price for the 256GB Galaxy S26+ was $1,099.99 in 2026. That is a $100 increase in starting launch price, before tax. Samsung’s S24 announcement and its S26 announcement establish those launch figures.

Specifications and dates are from Samsung’s US launch announcements for the Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy S26 series. Storage availability can vary by market and carrier. The processor configurations above are those in Samsung’s US launch material, not a guarantee that every regional version uses the same chipset. Display size is measured diagonally; rounded corners reduce the viewable area. IP68 is a lab-tested rating, not a promise that a phone will remain protected in every exposure or after wear.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh and a peak brightness of ~2,600 nits — giving a noticeably sharper, brighter screen than the base S24.
What changed most between the two phones?
Processor and launch software
The clearest generational change in the listed specifications is the move from Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the US launch models. The S26+ also launched with Android 16 and One UI 8.5, compared with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 on the S24+. These are launch versions; software installed on either phone can change through updates. Samsung’s cited specifications do not establish a particular real-world speed advantage, benchmark result, or the software version currently installed on a handset.
Display, battery, and cameras
The headline hardware is close on paper: both models have a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, a 4,900mAh typical battery, and the same stated rear-camera resolutions. Samsung specifies adaptive 1–120Hz refresh for the S26+ US launch model. Matching battery capacity does not establish matching battery life, and similar camera resolutions do not prove that the phones take identical-quality photos. The available specifications are not comparative battery tests or camera samples.
Rank #2
- 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh and a peak brightness of ~2,600 nits — giving a noticeably sharper, brighter screen than the base S24.
Charging and accessories
Both models are listed with 45W wired charging. Samsung’s S24+ launch material reports charging up to 65% in about 30 minutes under its stated lab conditions, using the specified adapter and cable; that result should not be treated as a directly comparable S26+ test. Samsung says the S24+ adapter and cable are sold separately and recommends a 45W adapter with a 5A USB-C cable. Check the S26+ package and local listing rather than assuming accessories are included.
Which phone makes more sense to buy?
Choose the S26+ if
- You want the newer processor generation and the newer software platform at launch.
- You are buying new and the actual price difference after discounts is acceptable to you.
- You value a new-device purchase and its applicable warranty over saving money on an older model.
Consider the S24+ if
- You can find it at a meaningfully lower current price in the same storage capacity.
- Its listed display, camera layout, and battery capacity meet your needs, and you do not specifically need the newer processor generation.
- You have checked the device’s condition, seller, warranty, and remaining software support before buying.
Samsung’s launch announcements establish original prices and stated specifications; they do not establish today’s retailer prices, remaining software-support period for a particular purchase date, or comparative hands-on battery and camera performance. Check those points against the exact model, seller, and market before deciding.
