The Samsung Galaxy S24 5G is worth considering if you want a compact flagship, like Samsung’s feature-rich software and find it at a meaningfully lower price than a newer Galaxy. Its small size and long software-support commitment are real attractions; its complicated interface and the uncertain value of some Galaxy AI features may not suit everyone. In 2026, the price, storage, condition and exact model matter more than an old launch price.
What the Galaxy S24 offers
The base Galaxy S24 is a relatively compact flagship by current large-phone standards. Samsung lists its screen as 6.2 inches diagonally, measured across the full rectangle; the viewable area is smaller because of the rounded corners and camera opening. Samsung’s launch specifications also list 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Network bands and compatibility depend on the particular model and market, so check the model number against your carrier before buying.

Samsung introduced Galaxy AI features and Circle to Search on the S24 generation. They may be useful if you want those tools, but their presence alone does not make the phone a good buy: consider whether you will actually use them, and whether you prefer Samsung’s software experience. Samsung’s S24 launch specifications describe the device and its connectivity.

These are practical trade-offs, not results from new hands-on testing. TechRadar’s review calls out the compact design and display as positives, and complicated software and mixed usefulness of Galaxy AI among the drawbacks. Read TechRadar’s Galaxy S24 review. Software support and updates in 2026
Software support is one of the S24’s more important ownership advantages, but an update entry for one model or country is not proof that every S24 has received the same update. Samsung’s notices say changes can differ by device model, country and service provider.
- Samsung’s SM-S921B notice lists Android 16 and security patch level 2026-09-05 for a release dated 2026-09-30. Check the SM-S921B update notice for that variant.
- Samsung’s US SM-S921U notice lists Android 16 and security patch level 2026-09-05 for a release dated 2026-10-02. See the SM-S921U update notice.
Those entries show what Samsung listed for those specific variants on those dates; they do not establish rollout timing for another model, country or carrier. Before buying or troubleshooting an update, identify the phone’s model number and check Samsung’s local support information.

Is it better to buy the Galaxy S24 or a newer Galaxy?
Compare the actual offers for the same storage capacity and similar condition, and make sure the seller and network model are appropriate for your market. A past comparison’s prices are historical, not a live quote. TechRadar’s S24-versus-S25 comparison says the newer S25 shares much of the design, display and camera setup while offering more processing power and battery endurance in that publisher’s evaluation; use its comparison for context, not as a guarantee about every configuration or current price. Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Choose the S24 if compact size is a priority, its software suits you, and the local price leaves a clear saving over the newer model.
- Lean toward the newer model if the price gap is small and you place greater value on newer processing hardware or the battery advantage reported in the comparison.
- Pause before buying either if you cannot verify the storage, condition, seller, model variant or carrier compatibility. Those details can change the value of an apparently attractive listing.
For a performance comparison, check the exact S24 model first: its processor can vary by market. Also compare battery and charging expectations against direct, comparable testing for the particular models you are considering; the cited material does not establish a fresh, comparable numeric result for those measures.

Verdict: should you buy the Samsung Galaxy S24 5G?
The Galaxy S24 remains a sensible compact-phone option in 2026 when it is substantially cheaper than a newer Galaxy and you value Samsung’s interface, features and support commitment. It is a weaker value when the newer phone costs nearly the same, or when you want a simpler software experience and do not care about Galaxy AI. There is no universal current price verdict: compare live local offers for the same storage, condition and model before deciding.
