That makes the official film a sensible first choice for owners who prioritize a documented fit, display clarity and a guided installation. It is not tempered glass, and Samsung’s descriptions do not prove that it outperforms every third-party film, TPU or hydrogel protector, or glass protector. Choose another product only after checking its exact S23 Ultra compatibility, curved-edge coverage, fingerprint behavior, case fit and installation system.

Samsung’s regional product identifiers vary. The Gulf page uses EF-US918CTEGWW, while Samsung support material in other markets uses the EF-US918 family. Check the suffix shown for your country rather than assuming that every EF-US918 listing is the same regional package.

Does the Galaxy S23 Ultra come with a screen protector?
Samsung’s Korea service guidance says the S23 series was not supplied with a pre-applied display film. That guidance concerns Korea and should not be treated as a universal statement about every market, retailer bundle or refurbished phone. Inspect the actual device and its packaging if you are buying used, importing one or receiving a carrier-specific bundle.
A phone may still have temporary shipping film or a retailer-applied accessory. Do not mistake that removable packaging layer for a permanent screen protector. If you want ongoing protection, plan to install a protector yourself or use an installation service after confirming the local terms.
Samsung’s Korea guidance is also specific about service-center application, proof or product identification for official films, and conditions affecting exchange or refund. Those terms can change and apply locally; they are not a worldwide Samsung warranty policy. Read the service conditions for your market before asking a service center to install or replace a film.

Model and regional identifiers
The official product family is EF-US918. One Samsung Gulf listing names the complete regional code EF-US918CTEGWW, and Samsung Canada has a support page for EF-US918CTEGCA. These suffixes identify regional versions; availability, packaging and service arrangements may differ.

When comparing listings, match the phone name first and then the regional code. A listing that says only “Galaxy S23” or “S23+” is not sufficient for an S23 Ultra purchase. A seller may use a shortened EF-US918 reference, so ask for the complete suffix or a photograph of the package when the market is unclear.
Two films and an alignment frame
Samsung states: “Two sheets of Front Protection Film are enclosed.” The Gulf page also says: “It comes with an installation frame that lets you align the protector precisely and to keep bubbles away.” The Japanese release likewise lists two front films and an installation set.
Two sheets give you a spare if the first application is contaminated or misaligned, but Samsung does not publish a guaranteed replacement interval or lifespan in the cited material. Treat the second sheet as included package quantity, not as a promise that one film will last a particular number of months.

Coating and touch claims
Samsung describes the film as high-transparency and says it has anti-scratch and anti-fingerprint coating. It also describes smooth, responsive touch and compatibility with the S23 Ultra’s fingerprint sensor. These are manufacturer-described features. The cited pages do not provide a controlled scratch test, drop test, quantified transmission measurement or comparative fingerprint-success rate.

If a listing promises a hardness number, impact rating or laboratory result, look for the test method and product-specific documentation rather than assuming it applies to Samsung’s film.
Why the S23 Ultra’s curved display changes the decision
Edge coverage and adhesion
The S23 Ultra has curved display edges, so a protector must conform to the screen without lifting where the glass curves toward the frame. Check whether the product explicitly says it covers the curved edges and whether the installation instructions leave a deliberate border. A protector that fits the flat viewing area but stops short of the usable edge may avoid lifting while exposing more glass.
Do not infer coverage from a photograph of another Galaxy model. The listing should name Galaxy S23 Ultra specifically and show dimensions or a device-specific installation template.
Fingerprint and touch response
The fingerprint reader is under the display. A protector can alter the distance and surface between your finger and the sensor, so compatibility claims matter. Samsung specifically describes its official film as compatible with fingerprint sensors and as retaining high touch sensitivity, but that remains a product claim rather than an independent success-rate measurement.

If the reader becomes unreliable, remove obvious installation contamination first and consult the protector’s instructions; do not assume that every film or every glass protector behaves the same way.
Case clearance
A case can press against a protector’s edge and cause lifting, bubbles or a crescent-shaped separation. Verify the protector’s case-fit guidance and compare the protector’s perimeter with your actual case, especially if the case has a raised lip or rigid screen surround. “Case friendly” is not a universal measurement, so favor listings that identify compatible case types or show a tested installation boundary.
Film, TPU or hydrogel, and tempered glass: what the evidence can and cannot tell you
The available Samsung material documents one film product. It does not establish a controlled winner among film, TPU or hydrogel, and tempered-glass products for the S23 Ultra. The table below is therefore a buying framework, not a performance ranking.

Samsung’s official item should not be described as tempered glass: Samsung calls it film. Conversely, a third-party listing that says “glass” should not be treated as equivalent to EF-US918 simply because both are advertised for the same phone.

Buying checklist for an S23 Ultra protector
1. Confirm the exact phone model
Look for “Galaxy S23 Ultra,” not merely “S23 series.” The Ultra has different dimensions, camera placement and curved-edge geometry from the Galaxy S23 and S23+. A package that omits the model should be treated as unverified until the seller provides device-specific information.

2. Record the complete product code
For Samsung’s product, note EF-US918 and the regional suffix. The Gulf code is EF-US918CTEGWW; Canada’s support page uses EF-US918CTEGCA. Regional suffixes can affect packaging and service, so retain a screenshot or photograph of the listing and label.
3. Check the construction
Decide whether you are buying film, TPU or hydrogel, or glass, then make sure the listing’s wording matches the package. Do not assume a “clear protector” is glass, and do not assume a scratch claim is a quantified rating.
4. Verify curved-edge coverage
Look for an S23 Ultra-specific diagram, installation template or explicit statement about the curved display. If the seller does not explain where the protector ends, you cannot reliably predict edge protection or case clearance.
5. Verify fingerprint and touch compatibility
Prefer a product with explicit S23 Ultra fingerprint and touch guidance. Treat “works with fingerprint” as a claim to validate after installation, not as an independently measured guarantee.
6. Check the installation method
An alignment frame or applicator can reduce placement errors. Confirm what is included: frame, dust-removal materials, cleaning wipe, squeegee or instructions. If the listing shows tools that are not included in the package, installation may be more difficult than the product photos suggest.
7. Check case compatibility
Read the seller’s case-fit notes and compare them with your case. A protector that reaches farther toward the edge may offer more covered area but can also be more sensitive to case pressure.
8. Confirm quantity and local availability
Samsung documents two front films in the EF-US918 package. For other products, verify the number of protectors rather than assuming a two-pack. Stock, regional packaging, prices and retailer terms change, so confirm those details on the live listing before ordering.

- Prepare a clean workspace. Choose a dust-minimized area, wash and dry your hands, and remove the case so it cannot press on the film during alignment.
- Read the supplied instructions before peeling anything. Identify the applicator, protective layers and tabs. The frame is intended to help align the film and reduce bubbles, but it cannot remove dust that lands on the adhesive.
- Clean the display carefully. Remove fingerprints and particles with the materials supplied or with a suitable screen-cleaning method. Inspect the glass under a bright light before exposing the adhesive.
- Seat the alignment frame. Center it on the phone according to Samsung’s instructions. Check that it is not resting on a case, charging accessory or debris that could shift the position.
- Apply the film gradually. Follow the package sequence, lowering or squeegeeing the film as directed rather than dropping it onto the screen at once. Work slowly around the curved edges.
- Inspect for dust, bubbles and lifting. Small installation bubbles may move toward an edge as directed by the instructions. A trapped particle, crooked edge or persistent lift usually requires correcting the application rather than pressing harder.
- Leave the phone uncased while the film settles. Keep the case off until the edges are stable and clean. If the case immediately pushes the protector upward, the combination is not compatible at that placement.
- Test touch and fingerprint unlocking. Try normal swipes, typing and several fingerprint unlocks. If response is poor, check for visible contamination or misalignment and follow the product’s troubleshooting instructions.
Samsung’s Korea guidance notes that self-application bubbles, lifting, contamination or misalignment are not covered for exchange or refund under that local guidance. Those conditions and remedies are Korea-specific and may not apply where you live.

Persistent bubbles
Separate ordinary installation air from a bubble caused by dust. Air may move toward an edge when worked according to the instructions; a fixed dark speck usually indicates contamination under the adhesive. Do not repeatedly peel and reapply the film, because that can introduce more dust and weaken edge adhesion.
An edge keeps lifting
Remove the case and inspect whether the protector is positioned over the curved edge or being pushed by the case. If it lifts without the case, the surface may be contaminated, the protector may be misaligned, or the product may not conform well to that phone. Document the condition before contacting the seller, and check the applicable local exchange policy.

Fingerprint unlocking is unreliable
Clean and dry both your finger and the display, then test several attempts. Confirm that the protector is the model intended for S23 Ultra and that no thick adhesive edge crosses the sensor area. Because the cited Samsung claims are not independent test results, a different product may behave differently; there is no evidence here for a universal film-versus-glass rule.
Touch feels less responsive
Check for a misaligned layer, trapped contamination or a case pressing the perimeter. If the issue remains, compare the product’s stated touch compatibility with the actual package and contact the seller. Avoid increasing touch sensitivity settings as a substitute for confirming that the protector itself is compatible.
The protector conflicts with the case
Remove the case to isolate the cause. If touch and fingerprint behavior return to normal without it, the case is pressing the protector. Choose a case-friendly model with a smaller perimeter or a case designed around the installed protector.
How to judge marketing claims
“Anti-scratch,” “impact protection” and “9H” are not interchangeable evidence. The Samsung pages cited here describe anti-scratch coating and protection features but do not publish a standardized scratch result, drop height, impact energy or service-life estimate. Do not convert a marketing description into a numerical durability promise.
Customer reviews on a product page can reveal recurring installation complaints, but they are anecdotal and do not constitute controlled testing. Look for reviews that identify the exact S23 Ultra model, case used, installation method and time since installation; still, treat them as individual experiences rather than a laboratory comparison.
Be cautious with stock photographs showing a flat phone, a different Galaxy model or an unlabelled package. The decisive evidence is the written compatibility statement, complete model code, included installation hardware and current seller information.
When the official Samsung film is the practical choice
- Choose it when you want Samsung’s documented S23 Ultra fit and a package with two front films.
- Choose it when a guided applicator matters more than buying the least expensive generic option.
- Choose it when high transparency and stated fingerprint and touch compatibility are priorities.
- Choose it when you can obtain the correct regional EF-US918 suffix from a reliable seller.
These are reasons to prefer the documented option, not proof that it wins every scratch, impact or longevity comparison. Samsung has not supplied the controlled comparative data needed to make that broader claim.
When a third-party protector may make sense
A third-party film, TPU or hydrogel, or tempered-glass product can be reasonable if its listing provides stronger information for your particular case or installation needs. For example, a seller may document compatibility with a case you already own, provide a different alignment system or offer verified local replacement availability. Those advantages must be established for the exact product; they cannot be inferred from the material category alone.
Before ordering, save the product page and confirm that the seller still lists Galaxy S23 Ultra, the intended material, curved-edge coverage, fingerprint compatibility, package quantity and installation contents. Availability and regional specifications are volatile, so recheck them at checkout.
