The Galaxy S26 adds a larger 6.3-inch display, 12GB of RAM, a 4,300mAh stated battery capacity and newer listed wireless standards; the Galaxy S22 is the smaller 6.1-inch phone. Their listed rear-camera megapixel counts are similar, and specifications alone cannot establish which takes better photos or lasts longer in your hands. In the US, launch and March 2026 MSRP figures show why the price difference depends on storage and which dated price you compare—not what either phone costs used or at checkout today.
Galaxy S22 vs Galaxy S26 specifications

What the display and performance specifications mean
Screen size and refresh rate
The S26’s listed screen is 0.2 inches larger diagonally across the full rectangle, while both models are FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels with a maximum 120Hz refresh rate in these US materials. Samsung describes the S26 as adaptive from 1Hz to 120Hz and the S22 as 48Hz to 120Hz. The S22 is the more compact option; the specification difference does not by itself establish a subjective difference in visibility or smoothness.

Processor and memory
The S26 announcement lists a newer processor and 12GB RAM, compared with the S22’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8GB RAM. These are hardware differences, not measured speed results: the cited materials do not establish how much faster a particular task will run or how the phones compare in sustained performance.
Camera comparison: similar megapixel counts, different listed details
Both specification sheets list a 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto rear camera. Samsung lists 3x optical zoom for both; the S22 sheet describes up to 30x Space Zoom, while the S26 announcement specifies 2x optical-quality zoom and up to 30x digital zoom. The front camera listings are 10MP for the S22 and 12MP for the S26.

Megapixel counts and zoom labels do not prove which phone produces better photos or video. The cited Samsung specifications are not a comparative image-quality test, so choose based on the camera results you need rather than treating the S26’s newer listing as proof of a particular improvement.
Battery capacity and charging
Samsung lists 3,700mAh for the S22 and 4,300mAh for the S26. Those are capacity specifications, not a prediction of screen-on time: actual battery life depends on use, settings, network conditions and battery condition. Samsung says the S26 figure reflects typical-capacity testing and may vary.

Both models are listed for up to 25W wired charging; wireless charging is listed as 15W for the S22 and up to 15W for the S26. The listed capacities and charging limits do not establish a specific charging time or day-to-day endurance.
Connectivity and software
Samsung’s S22 US sheet lists Wi-Fi 6; its S26 announcement lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Whether those newer standards matter depends on the phone’s regional version, carrier, compatible router or accessories, and the surrounding environment.

The S22 sheet records Android 12 at launch, not the version currently installed on an individual S22. Samsung’s S26 announcement lists Android 16 and One UI 8.5. That listing describes the announced software, not a guarantee of how long future updates will be provided.

Sources: Samsung Newsroom US S22 launch announcement and Samsung Electronics America March 2026 MSRP sheet. Samsung’s S22 announcement lists 128GB and 256GB versions with 8GB RAM. The MSRP sheet warns that prices may change without notice.
Why Samsung’s S26 documents show different starting prices
Samsung’s 2026 S26 announcement describes 256GB and 512GB options and says the phone starts at $899.99. Its March 2026 MSRP sheet also lists an unlocked 128GB model at $799.99. The documents do not explain the difference; the stated starting price therefore depends on which Samsung document and configuration is being cited.
How to interpret the price gap
Comparing the S22’s $799.99 US launch MSRP with the S26’s March 2026 US unlocked MSRP of $799.99 for 128GB yields no difference between those two historical list prices. That is not a like-for-like current-price comparison: the S22 figure is from its February 2022 launch, and the S26 figures are storage-specific MSRP from March 2026. These sources do not establish the S22’s current used value or either phone’s checkout price today. A resale or sale comparison requires the same market, storage, condition and seller, and should account for carrier requirements, trade-ins or promotions.
Should you upgrade from the Galaxy S22 to the S26?
The S26’s listed hardware is a stronger fit if you want the larger screen, more RAM, higher stated battery capacity, or newer listed connectivity. The S22 remains the smaller choice, and its listed rear-camera megapixel configuration is close to the S26’s. No cited specification sheet settles real-world speed, camera quality or battery life, so those should not be inferred from the component figures alone.
For a purchase decision, compare the S26’s specific storage tier and a current offer against the condition and resale or trade-in value of your S22. The documented MSRP figures are historical context, not a live quote.
