The standard 6.2-inch Galaxy S24 5G is the smaller, newer-tier option, with a newer launch-era processor and a brighter FHD+ display. Samsung’s original US starting prices differed by $400, but that historical gap does not tell you what either phone costs now.
Which phones are being compared?
This is a comparison between two different tiers and release years: Samsung’s 2022 Galaxy S22 Ultra and the regular 6.2-inch Galaxy S24 5G from 2024. The S24 here is not the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Specifications below come from Samsung’s US materials and may vary by country, carrier or configuration.

How do their size and displays compare?
The S22 Ultra has a 6.8-inch WQHD+ display, while the standard S24 has a 6.2-inch FHD+ display. The Ultra gives you more screen area and higher resolution; the S24 is the more compact choice. Samsung lists a 120Hz refresh rate for both, but describes the S24’s as adaptive.

Samsung’s US specification sheets list peak brightness of 1,750 nits for the S22 Ultra and 2,600 nits for the S24. These are manufacturer figures, not independent display measurements. [Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra US specifications; Samsung Galaxy S24 series US specifications]

Does the S Pen or camera flexibility matter more?
S Pen and handling
The S22 Ultra has an S Pen built into the phone, making it the clear choice if you want a stylus available without carrying a separate accessory. The cited standard-S24 specification sheet does not identify an embedded S Pen. Its smaller body may suit people who prefer a more compact handset.
Rear cameras and zoom
Samsung lists a 108MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide and two 10MP telephoto cameras for the S22 Ultra. The standard S24 has a 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide and one 10MP telephoto camera. The Ultra therefore offers a more elaborate telephoto setup on paper.

Samsung specifies 10x optical zoom and up to 100x Space Zoom for the S22 Ultra. For the S24, it lists 2x and 3x dual telephoto zoom and up to 30x Space Zoom. Space Zoom includes digital processing: neither phone’s maximum zoom figure should be read as optical detail across the entire range. Samsung also lists a 40MP front camera for the S22 Ultra and a 12MP front camera for the S24. These are specifications, not independent camera-test results. Samsung’s US materials list the S22 Ultra with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Android 12, and the S24 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and Android 14 / One UI 6.1. These describe launch-era specifications—the S24 figures are from Samsung’s 2024 sheet—not the software currently installed on a particular used or new phone. The processor generations indicate that the S24 launched on the newer platform, but the cited materials do not provide independent performance testing or a complete current software-feature comparison.

Samsung’s S24 guide describes features including Live Translate, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Chat Assist, Photo Assist and Circle to Search. Samsung says some features require a Samsung account and an internet connection, and that language availability or other constraints apply. Its guide’s free-until-the-end-of-2025 term is historical and does not establish current terms. The available material also does not establish that the S22 Ultra lacks all AI features. How do battery capacity and storage compare?
Samsung lists typical battery capacity of 5,000mAh for the S22 Ultra and 4,000mAh for the standard S24. Capacity alone cannot establish which lasts longer in everyday use; Samsung notes that actual duration varies with network, usage and other factors.

The cited US S22 Ultra specification sheet lists 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage configurations, with 8GB or 12GB memory. Samsung’s separate launch announcement also mentioned a 1TB model. The standard S24 sheet lists 128GB or 256GB storage and 8GB memory. Check the exact storage and memory configuration of the device being sold rather than assuming every listed variant is available in every market.

Samsung announced original US starting prices of $1,199.99 for the S22 Ultra and $799.99 for the standard S24—a $400 difference at launch. These are historical starting prices, and the storage baselines differ; they are not current offers or a like-for-like price comparison. Samsung announced S22 Ultra availability beginning February 25, 2022, and S24 availability beginning January 31, 2024. Best Value
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
A current price comparison requires checking the same storage capacity, condition and carrier status for both phones. Comparable current unlocked prices, stock and condition-adjusted offers are not established here, so the $400 launch gap should not be used to decide which one is cheaper to buy today.
Which phone is the better fit?
- Choose the S22 Ultra if you prioritize its larger, sharper display, embedded S Pen, two telephoto cameras or higher stated optical-zoom reach.
- Choose the standard S24 if you prefer a smaller screen and body, want the newer launch-era processor, or value its higher manufacturer-listed peak brightness.
- Compare listings carefully if price is decisive: match storage, condition and unlocked or carrier status before comparing current offers.
Neither specification sheet establishes a universal winner for battery life, camera quality or day-to-day speed. Those questions need evidence beyond the listed capacities and hardware specifications.
