There is no automatic winner between a used Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy S22: the better buy depends on the exact phone’s condition, price, and terms. Choose the S22 if you want a smaller, lighter handset and prefer its listed 50MP main camera. Choose the S21 FE if a larger display and higher rated battery capacity matter more—and its condition-adjusted price is better. These are manufacturer-specification comparisons, not results of a hands-on test.
At a glance: the trade-offs that matter

| Water-resistance rating and fingerprint sensor | IP68; optical fingerprint | IP68; ultrasonic fingerprint |
| Processor information | US T-Mobile sheet lists Qualcomm SDM8350; Samsung Ireland lists Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100, with regional and operator variation | US specification sheet lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 |
Figures come from Samsung’s US product specification sheets, except where the processor entry specifically identifies Samsung Ireland’s regional comparison. Specifications can differ by market and model. The camera megapixel counts describe hardware, not image quality; battery capacity does not predict runtime or the health of a particular used battery. Samsung’s S21 FE US specification sheet, Samsung’s S22 US specification sheet, and Samsung Ireland’s regional comparison provide the cited details.

Which phone fits your priorities?
Choose the Galaxy S22 for a smaller, lighter phone
Samsung’s US specifications list the S22 at 6.1 inches and 168.8g, compared with 6.4 inches and 177g for the S21 FE. That makes the S22 the more compact option on paper. Its listed rear wide camera is 50MP, versus 12MP for the FE’s wide camera. The S22 also lists a 10MP telephoto camera and 3x optical zoom; the FE lists an 8MP telephoto. These numbers alone cannot establish which phone takes better pictures.
Choose the Galaxy S21 FE for a larger display and higher rated capacity
The FE’s 6.4-inch screen gives you more display area than the S22’s 6.1-inch screen, while its listed typical battery capacity is 4,500mAh versus 3,700mAh. That capacity difference is not a battery-life test: actual runtime depends on use, and an older phone’s battery condition depends on its history. Ask about battery health or any battery replacement rather than assuming a used FE will outlast a used S22.
#1 Best Overall
- The S22 uses a flat (non‑curved) 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh that dynamically adjusts between 48 – 120 Hz depending on content — which means smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency when high refresh isn’t needed.
- Its main rear camera features a 50 MP sensor with what Samsung calls “Tetra‑binning,” delivering stronger detail in bright light and surprisingly good low‑light photos compared to many older flagships.
- The build quality is designed to feel premium and durable: it uses an Armor Aluminum frame combined with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on front and back, which gives better scratch and drop resistance — nice if you want a relatively compact but rugged flagship.
- For video content and editing, the S22 supports 8K recording — rare for a “smaller” flagship. That means you can shoot very high-resolution video, useful if you care about future‑proofing footage or cropping/editing later.
- The phone strikes a balance of compactness and performance — in a world of increasingly large phones, the S22 remains fairly pocket‑friendly while still packing the 4 nm flagship‑class chipset (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 depending on region) for smooth daily performance.
Compare the exact configuration before choosing
The cited US sheets list 128GB and 256GB storage options for both phones. The S22 sheet lists 8GB RAM; the cited US T-Mobile S21 FE sheet lists 6GB. That FE memory figure is specific to the carrier sheet, not a guarantee for every regional model. Check the model number, storage and RAM in the actual listing, and confirm the phone supports your carrier’s network bands. The S21 FE’s processor also varies by region and operator; do not assume that a US or Irish specification describes a handset sold elsewhere.
What used-phone condition changes
A model’s original IP68 rating does not show that a used handset’s seals remain intact after wear or repair. Likewise, an original fingerprint specification does not establish that the sensor on a particular listing works. The listing and return protections matter alongside the model:

- Inspect the screen for cracks, burn-in, dead pixels, and other damage; test the cameras and fingerprint sensor.
- Check the charging port and wireless charging if applicable. Confirm whether a charger is included and compatible; Samsung says chargers are sold separately for the cited configurations.
- Ask for battery-health information, any battery replacement details, and repair history where available.
- Compare seller warranty, return window, cosmetic grade, and total delivered cost—not just the advertised price.
Samsung’s product sheets describe specifications, not the condition, lock status, repair history, warranty, or price of any individual used phone. Those facts must be confirmed with the seller.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSoftware support: a shared announced policy, not a remaining-support guarantee
In a February 9, 2022 announcement, Samsung named both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21 FE among devices eligible for up to four generations of Android/One UI upgrades and up to five years of security updates. Samsung also said availability and timing could vary by device and Android release timing. The announcement establishes a shared maximum policy, not that both phones receive updates on the same schedule today or have the same support remaining. Check Samsung’s current update information for the exact model, country, and carrier before buying. Samsung’s announcement of the policy is the source for those terms.

How to compare two actual listings
- Match the basics: compare the same storage capacity and, as closely as possible, cosmetic grade, regional compatibility, and unlocked status.
- Price the protections: account for warranty, return rights, shipping, and any missing charger in the total delivered cost.
- Weigh condition against your priorities: favor the S22 for its compact body and listed camera hardware, or the S21 FE for its larger screen and greater rated battery capacity. Do not treat capacity or megapixels as a guarantee of real-world results.
- Buy the better-supported listing: if one seller provides clearer condition details, a meaningful return window, or warranty coverage, that can outweigh a small difference in advertised price.
Without current, comparable local listings and verified device condition, there is no evidence-based price winner. Compare like with like, then choose the trade-off you will notice every day.
