What is the price difference?
Samsung’s U.S. launch price for the Galaxy A37 5G was $449.99, with U.S. availability beginning April 9, 2026. Samsung’s September 2020 U.S. announcement listed the Galaxy S20 FE from $699. Subtracting those two launch figures gives $249.01, with the A37’s launch figure lower—but this is a comparison of prices announced six years apart, not today’s price difference.

Choose the Galaxy A37 5G for a larger screen and newer support commitment
The A37’s listed 6.7-inch display is larger than the S20 FE’s 6.5-inch panel, and its 5,000mAh typical battery capacity exceeds the S20 FE’s 4,500mAh rating. Those figures do not establish which phone lasts longer in real use: brightness, refresh-rate settings, workload, battery age, and other factors affect experience.

Its strongest long-term advantage is Samsung’s published commitment of up to six OS upgrades and up to six years of security updates. That is a longer stated commitment than the S20 FE’s original promise of three Android OS generations. It does not, by itself, confirm the current update status of an individual S20 FE or guarantee identical timing in every market.
Consider the Galaxy S20 FE 5G if you specifically want optical telephoto hardware
Samsung’s S20 FE 5G datasheet lists a dedicated 8MP telephoto camera, alongside wide and ultrawide cameras. Samsung lists the A37 with wide, ultrawide, and macro rear cameras. If zoom photography is important, that difference in camera hardware is more decision-useful than comparing megapixel totals: megapixels alone do not prove which phone produces better photos.

The S20 FE’s dedicated telephoto camera does not make it the better camera phone in every situation. The sources here do not establish a controlled, head-to-head photo test. The A37’s main camera is listed at 50MP with OIS, while the S20 FE’s launch announcement lists a 32MP front camera against the A37’s 12MP; those counts alone cannot settle image quality.

Do not treat IP68 as a guarantee against damage
Samsung rated both phones IP68. For the A37, Samsung UK gives the rating’s stated lab basis as up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. That rating does not promise protection against every kind of water exposure, damage, or wear over time.
Should you upgrade from an S20 FE to an A37?
It may make sense if you want a larger display, higher stated battery capacity, and the A37’s longer published support commitment. It is less compelling as a camera-driven change if the S20 FE’s dedicated telephoto camera is a priority. An upgrade decision also depends on the A37’s current local price and the condition and remaining software status of the S20 FE you already own; the specifications alone cannot determine whether replacing a working phone is worthwhile.
How to compare the actual deal before buying
- Compare current local prices. Use listings for the exact market and currency, and compare unlocked models where possible. Do not use the two launch prices as today’s gap.
- Match storage and variant. Check the exact model number, storage capacity, RAM where listed, and network compatibility. The S20 FE launch materials distinguish the standard 5G model from the 5G UW model; regional A37 configurations can also differ.
- Evaluate a used S20 FE individually. Check battery condition, screen condition, seller return terms, network compatibility, and the phone’s current software status rather than assuming these from its age or launch promise.
- Check the total package. Confirm local box contents and whether a charger is included before comparing total cost. Samsung’s S20 FE 5G datasheet says its charger is not included; Samsung says A37 box contents can vary by region.
Verdict: A37 for longevity, S20 FE only at the right price and condition
The Galaxy A37 5G is the more straightforward choice when longer announced support, a larger display, and greater stated battery capacity matter most. The S20 FE 5G remains worth considering when its telephoto camera is important and a specific listing is meaningfully cheaper, compatible with your network, and in acceptable condition. There is no universal winner without a current, like-for-like local price and a clear sense of which features matter to you.
