Samsung wireless charging is mainly available on Galaxy S, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Z phones. Samsung’s US support guidance lists Galaxy S6 through S25 families, selected Note models from Note5 through Note20, and Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip generations. Galaxy A and XCover phones are excluded from that US guidance. Your exact model and regional variant still matter, because Samsung says charging speed and power differ by device.
Before buying a pad or stand, match the complete model name to Samsung’s local specifications or support page. Then use a Qi-compatible charger, center the phone on it and follow the placement rules for your phone’s design.

Which Samsung Galaxy phones charge wirelessly?
Wireless charging is not a universal Galaxy feature. It is concentrated in Samsung’s flagship S series, Note phones and Z foldables. The most useful way to check compatibility is by exact model, not by the Galaxy name alone. A family can contain regional variants with different specifications, and support pages are updated at different times.

Samsung’s separate wireless-charging guide says, “Most Qi-Compatible Samsung devices can be charged wirelessly,” while also directing owners to device-specific information: Use Wireless charging or PowerShare with Galaxy devices.

Galaxy S series
Samsung’s US list includes these Galaxy S families:

The family-level list does not guarantee that every regional SKU or every carrier version has identical charging behavior. Treat it as a starting point, then open the specification page for your complete model name.
Galaxy Note series
The US support list names Note5, Note8, Note9, Note10, Note10+, Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G. Older Note models and later regional variants may appear differently on local Samsung sites, so use the model number shown in Settings > About phone when checking.
Galaxy Z foldables
Samsung lists Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip generations among phones that can receive wireless charging. The exact list is time-sensitive because new Z models are added and regional catalogs are not identical. Check the current page for your country and the precise Fold or Flip model before purchasing a charger.

For a foldable, Samsung’s setup guidance says to close the phone and place its back against the charger. A folded device that is partly open or positioned on the wrong surface may not make the required contact. See Samsung’s Galaxy wireless-charging setup guidance.
Galaxy A and XCover series
Samsung’s US guidance says Galaxy A and Galaxy XCover phones are not compatible with wireless charging. If an A-series or XCover owner sees a generic “Qi-compatible Samsung” statement, that statement should not override the model-specific support page. These lines generally require a cable unless Samsung explicitly lists a particular model otherwise.
What about Samsung tablets?
This article concerns phones. Samsung Colombia’s compatibility page states that tablets are not compatible with wireless charging: ¿Qué dispositivos Samsung tienen carga inalámbrica?. Do not assume a Galaxy tablet supports the same feature as a Galaxy phone.

- Find the full model name and number. Open Settings > About phone. Record the model code, not just “Galaxy S24” or “Galaxy Z Flip.”
- Open Samsung’s support or specifications page for your country. Search the model code and look for “wireless charging,” “fast wireless charging” or a Qi reference in the charging section.
- Check the receiving feature separately from PowerShare. A phone may charge on a pad without being able to transmit power to another device.
- Read the stated charging power for that model. Samsung says power and charging speed vary by device, so do not apply the figure from one Galaxy generation to another.
- Confirm the charger’s specification. Check that it supports Qi and that its output is appropriate for the phone. Also check whether a compatible power adapter is included.
Regional pages can disagree in timing: Samsung Colombia’s page, for example, is marked updated April 8, 2026, while US and UK pages may use different model groupings. When pages conflict, the support site serving the country where the phone was sold is the most relevant reference.
How to charge a compatible Samsung phone wirelessly
Once compatibility is established, the basic procedure is simple. Samsung’s instructions focus on a stable Qi connection and correct alignment.
- Connect the charger. Use the power adapter and cable specified for the pad or stand. A pad’s advertised output cannot be reached if the adapter feeding it is underpowered.
- Place the charger on a stable, flat surface. A stand can make alignment easier for a phone, while a flat pad is convenient for a desk or bedside table.
- Prepare the phone. Remove a thick case if charging does not start, stops repeatedly or becomes unreliable. Cases containing metal or magnetic attachments can also interfere with the contact area; consult the case and phone guidance before leaving one in place.
- Position the phone’s back over the center. The phone should sit with its charging coil aligned to the charger’s center. If the indicator does not appear, lift the phone and reposition it rather than sliding it around repeatedly.
- Close a foldable before placing it down. Put the back of a closed Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip against the charging surface, following Samsung’s foldable guidance.
- Confirm the charging indicator. Look for the on-screen charging animation or battery status. If there is no indication, remove the phone and repeat the alignment and case checks.
Wireless charging is intended for convenience rather than a universal speed target. The phone, charger, adapter and software can all affect the result, so a charging animation alone does not establish a particular wattage or completion time.

There are two different wireless functions:
- Receiving charge: the Galaxy phone draws power from a Qi-compatible pad or stand.
- Wireless PowerShare: a supported Galaxy phone reverses the process and sends power to another compatible device.
Samsung maintains separate compatibility details for PowerShare. Receiving charge does not automatically mean that a phone can provide PowerShare, and the accessory or device being charged must also meet the required compatibility conditions. Check the PowerShare section for the exact model before planning to charge earbuds, a watch or another phone from its back.

How to choose a wireless charger for a Samsung phone
After confirming the phone, compare chargers on the specifications that affect day-to-day use:
- Qi compatibility: the charger should explicitly support the Qi standard used by the phone.
- Output supported by the phone: a charger with a higher advertised maximum does not force the phone to accept that power. The phone controls its own charging rate.
- Placement format: choose a flat pad for flexible positioning or a stand if you want to see the screen while it charges.
- Power adapter included: verify whether the box contains the wall adapter needed to reach the charger’s stated output.
- Fit with your case: if you normally use a thick case, confirm the charger instructions and be prepared to remove the case when charging is interrupted.
A Qi charging pad or stand is the appropriate accessory category for a supported Galaxy phone. Samsung’s guidance does not establish one universal charger, speed or price for the entire Galaxy range, so judge a product against your exact model’s specification rather than a family-wide claim.

The phone does not start charging
- Re-center the back of the phone on the pad.
- Check that the charger is connected to its required adapter and that the adapter is powered.
- Remove a thick case or any attachment that changes the distance between the phone and pad.
- Test the phone on a charger known to be Qi-compatible, then check Samsung’s model-specific support page.
Charging starts and stops
Interruption usually means the phone is not maintaining reliable contact. Remove the case, reposition the phone and keep the pad on a level surface. If the problem persists, compare the charger’s supported output and compatibility information with Samsung’s specifications for the phone.

Do not compare a result with a different Galaxy model’s advertised figure. Samsung says charging power and speed vary by device. Check the phone’s own specification, the charger’s output and the power adapter feeding it before deciding that the phone or charger is faulty.

A foldable will not charge on the pad
Close the Fold or Flip completely and place its back against the charging surface. Reposition the closed phone so its coil is centered. Samsung’s foldable instructions specifically call for this closed-back placement.
A checklist for comparing Galaxy phones
If wireless charging is a deciding factor when choosing between Samsung phones, compare these items for each exact model:
- Does the regional specification list Qi wireless charging?
- What wireless-charging power does Samsung state for that model?
- Does the phone also support Wireless PowerShare?
- Will your case allow reliable contact, or must it be removed?
- Which charger format—pad or stand—fits where you will use it?
- Does the charger package include the adapter needed for its rated output?
This method avoids the most common mistake: assuming that a Galaxy badge, series name or newer release automatically has the same charging hardware as every other model in that family.
