Google says Better Together support is rolling out for four features: Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync. The rollout uses Google Play and background service updates, so meeting the software requirement does not guarantee the features will appear immediately.
Which Samsung Galaxy phones can connect?
Google’s October 2026 announcement says Better Together support is arriving on Samsung phones running One UI 9.0, based on Android 17. That is the stated software requirement; Google has not published a model-by-model or region-by-region compatibility list in the announcement. Check the phone’s Android version rather than assuming that every Galaxy model is supported.

The announcement names four Googlebook features: Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync. It does not establish that every older Chromebook Phone Hub feature is included. Google’s 2021 Phone Hub description, for example, covers different Chromebook functions and should not be treated as the current Googlebook feature list.
Why the features may not appear yet
Google says the required updates are rolling out automatically over the next few days through Google Play and background service updates. That timing is an expectation stated in the announcement, not a guarantee for a particular phone, Googlebook, or region. Keeping the devices on Wi-Fi and charging can help them receive updates, but does not ensure immediate availability.

The Google Play services update is also intended to reduce first-time setup steps and address timing problems, such as a setup QR code remaining on screen after phone setup. If the QR code or feature options do not update promptly, first confirm the app and service versions below, then restart both devices.
Checks to make before pairing
- Confirm Android 17. On the Galaxy, open Settings > About phone and check the Android version. Menu wording can vary by device. The qualifying Samsung software named by Google is One UI 9.0 (Android 17).
- Use the same personal Google Account. Sign in to the same account on the phone and Googlebook. Google’s instructions specify a personal Google Account.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices. These are pairing prerequisites.
- Check the service versions. Google lists Google Play services version 26.37 or higher and Cross-device services version 1.0.1346 or higher. If either is older, allow updates to install through Google Play and background services, then check again.
- Review Cross-device services settings. Check the Continue activity toggles for Tasks, Apps, Notifications, and Files & media sharing.
- Restart both devices. Restart the Galaxy phone and Googlebook after updates or settings changes, then try setup again.
If setup fails or a feature is missing
QR setup stalls or stays on screen
Google says its Google Play services update addresses timing issues during first-time setup, including a QR code that remains visible after phone setup. Verify the listed service versions, give the rollout time to reach the devices, and restart both before retrying.

Pairing fails on a public or guest network
Try a private home Wi-Fi network. Hotel, cafe, office, and guest networks may use client isolation, which can block local connections between devices even when both have internet access. Google specifically identifies network isolation as a possible obstacle.

Check the Android and One UI requirement, service versions, account, connectivity, and Continue activity toggles. Also allow for the staged rollout: an eligible phone may not yet have received all required updates. Google’s announcement does not provide a per-model or regional schedule, so it cannot establish a firm date for a specific device.

What has been demonstrated so far
In a hands-on report published October 12, 2026, Chrome Unboxed writer Robby Payne says he paired a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 with a Dell XPS Googlebook and got Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync working. That is evidence the setup worked on those devices, not a certification that every Galaxy phone or Googlebook has been tested.
Tom’s Guide’s October 11, 2026 review of the Lenovo Googlebook 15 describes QR-based setup and phone syncing with a Pixel 9 Pro XL, and says Android 17 is needed for the fullest phone feature set. That Pixel test is useful product context but is not a Samsung compatibility test. For Samsung support requirements, Google’s announcement remains the controlling source.
