The Galaxy M56 is the newer, thinner option with a longer published software-update commitment; the Galaxy M55 stands out for its 50MP selfie camera and listed microSD expansion. Both offer a 120Hz FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus display, a 50MP OIS main camera, a 5,000mAh typical battery and 45W charging support. Which is the better buy depends on your priorities and the current price for the storage configuration you want.

How the differences affect your choice
Design and durability
The M56 is 0.6mm thinner than the M55, at 7.2mm versus 7.8mm, while both are listed at 180g. Samsung says the M56 has Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and back. That material claim is not an independent durability test, so it should not be read as a guarantee against damage.

Display
Both phones have a 6.7-inch, 120Hz FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus display. Samsung’s launch announcements state 1,200 nits HBM for the M56 and 1,000 nits HBM for the M55. The higher stated M56 figure is a specification difference, not proof of a particular outdoor-viewing result.

Cameras
The rear camera layouts are alike on paper: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8MP camera and a 2MP camera. The clearest listed difference is up front: Samsung specifies a 50MP front camera for the M55 and a 12MP HDR front camera for the M56. Resolution alone does not establish which takes better selfies. Samsung also describes the M56 as supporting 4K 30fps 10-bit HDR recording.
Storage and charging
Choose the M55 if a microSD card is a requirement: Samsung lists support up to 1TB in a hybrid SIM/microSD slot. The reviewed M56 India specifications list two SIM slots but do not list microSD support; this is a statement about the cited specifications, not a broader claim about every regional version.
Both models support 45W charging and have a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery. Samsung says the M55’s 45W wall charger is sold separately. The cited M56 launch information does not establish whether an adapter is included, so check the box contents for the specific M56 listing before purchase.

Samsung announced four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the M55. For the M56, it announced six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates; its India specification page lists security updates through 31 December 2030 and notes that update timing or content may change. The M56 therefore has the longer published commitment, though the exact timing of future releases is not guaranteed.
