The Samsung Galaxy M36 5G is the stronger fit if you want a higher-resolution AMOLED display and a stated long-term software-update policy. The Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G offers a larger screen, a much higher rated battery capacity and faster charging. Neither specification sheet proves which phone takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use, so the right choice depends on what matters most—and on the live price for the exact memory variant.

Which screen is better for your use?
Choose the Galaxy M36 for resolution and panel type
Samsung lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The higher stated resolution and AMOLED panel make the M36 the more compelling specification-based choice for readers who prioritize a sharper display and panel technology.

Choose the Redmi 17 5G for a larger display
Xiaomi lists a larger 6.9-inch screen, but it is HD+ LCD. It may suit someone who values screen area over resolution or panel type. Both phones list refresh rates up to 120Hz; that shared headline number does not erase the difference in size, resolution, and display technology.

Battery capacity and charging: Redmi has the bigger numbers
The Redmi 17 5G is rated for a 7,900mAh typical-capacity battery and 45W charging, compared with the M36’s 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging. Xiaomi also lists up to 22.5W wired reverse charging, which can let the phone supply power to another compatible device.
Those figures favor Redmi on paper, but capacity and charging wattage are not measured battery life or a guarantee of a particular charging time. Actual endurance depends on factors such as display use, network conditions, settings, and workload. No independent comparative runtime or charging test is established here. Xiaomi lists a 45W adapter in the box, so a separate charger is not automatically needed.

Camera hardware: OIS and lens details matter more than megapixels alone
Samsung lists a 50MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), alongside an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro camera. OIS is a meaningful hardware distinction for the main camera, while the named extra lenses give the M36 more specified shooting options.

Both phones have a 50MP main-camera label, but that does not show that their images are equally detailed or perform equally in low light. The M36’s listed 13MP front camera also has a higher resolution than Redmi’s 8MP front camera; the specifications do not establish a real-world selfie-quality winner.

Updates, storage, and durability
Software support
Samsung states that the M36 will receive six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates. Xiaomi’s product overview shows HyperOS 3, but the accessed official specifications do not confirm an equivalent duration for Redmi 17 5G. If a clearly stated update commitment is important, Samsung’s promise is the firmer documented basis for a choice.
Memory and expansion
The M36 is listed in three configurations: 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, and 8GB+256GB. Xiaomi India lists Redmi 17 5G in 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB versions, with microSD expansion up to 2TB; the card is sold separately. Compare the same RAM and internal-storage configuration when checking prices.

Dust, splash, and screen protection
Samsung claims Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. Xiaomi lists Gorilla Glass 7i and an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. IP64 is not a waterproof rating: Xiaomi warns against immersion and says protection can diminish with use. These are different kinds of protection, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable durability guarantees.
Price difference in India: separate launch prices from later listings
Samsung’s India announcement dated 30 June 2025 said the Galaxy M36 5G would be available from 12 July 2025. It listed these launch prices:
- 6GB+128GB: ₹16,499, including a ₹1,000 instant bank discount.
- 8GB+128GB: ₹17,999.
- 8GB+256GB: ₹20,999.
Those are launch figures, not current prices. The captured Xiaomi India specifications page does not provide a Redmi 17 5G price. Separately, a 91mobiles comparison page accessed on 7 October 2026 displayed Amazon-linked prices of ₹21,999 for the M36 and ₹23,999 for Redmi 17 5G. That is a dated third-party price snapshot, not a guaranteed live offer or a like-for-like comparison of memory variants. Check the comparison listing, then confirm the exact variant, stock, conditions on bank discounts, and final price at the retailer before buying.
Which phone should you buy?
- Pick the Galaxy M36 5G if you prioritize a higher-resolution Super AMOLED display, OIS on the listed main camera, a named ultrawide lens, or Samsung’s stated six-generation Android and six-year security-update policy.
- Pick the Redmi 17 5G if you prefer a larger screen, higher rated battery capacity, faster listed charging, wired reverse charging, or microSD expansion.
- Compare live offers before deciding if price is the deciding factor. Check identical RAM and storage configurations and account for conditional discounts rather than comparing a launch price with a later retailer snapshot.
There is no documented head-to-head performance, camera, or battery test here to support a universal winner. Base the decision on the listed hardware and support information that match your priorities, then verify the specific variant’s current price.
