The Samsung Galaxy M17 5G and vivo X300 FE sit in very different price tiers in India. Samsung’s October 2025 launch prices started at ₹12,499, while vivo’s latest listed X300 FE variants were announced in August 2026 at ₹84,999 and above. The M17 gives you a larger screen for far less; the X300 FE is a compact, higher-tier phone with a faster processor, a dedicated telephoto camera, and more charging options. Which makes sense depends on the price you’re willing to pay and the features you value.
India prices: a large gap, with dates attached
Samsung announced the Galaxy M17 5G at launch prices of ₹12,499 for 4GB/128GB, ₹13,999 for 6GB/128GB, and ₹15,499 for 8GB/128GB in October 2025. These are historical launch prices, not a statement of current retail pricing. Samsung’s launch announcement gives the dated figures.

vivo’s listed X300 FE lineup changed across its 2026 announcements. The May launch release listed ₹79,999 for 12GB/256GB and ₹89,999 for 12GB/512GB; an August 2026 variant announcement listed ₹84,999 for 8GB/256GB, ₹89,999 for 12GB/256GB, and ₹99,999 for 12GB/512GB. The August announcement is the later lineup, but prices and availability can change; check a seller’s current listing before buying. The two releases show that the 12GB/256GB variant was listed at different prices on different dates, rather than establishing a single timeless price. vivo’s May announcement and August variant announcement provide the dated prices.
The gap is not a close-call price comparison: the official announced figures place the X300 FE in a substantially higher tier. Buy the M17 if the priority is a large display at a much lower announced entry price; consider the X300 FE only if its compact flagship-class hardware and features justify the added spend for you.

Which screen and size suit you?
Choose the M17 for a larger viewing area
At 6.7 inches, the M17 has the larger display, which can be more comfortable for reading, video, or a spacious on-screen keyboard. It is also wider and taller than the X300 FE. Its 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel is the straightforward fit if screen size matters more than a compact body.
Choose the X300 FE for a compact form
The X300 FE’s 6.31-inch display and 150.83 × 71.76mm dimensions make it the smaller phone. Despite being about 13.6mm shorter and 6.1mm narrower, it weighs 191g—almost the same as the M17’s 192g. The vivo is also thicker at 7.99mm versus 7.5mm. Its smaller footprint, rather than a lighter weight, is the key size distinction.

Performance and storage: different hardware classes
The M17 uses Samsung’s Exynos 1330 (6nm), while the X300 FE uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The listed hardware puts the vivo in a higher processor tier on paper, but the available specifications do not provide a controlled performance comparison or an independent benchmark result. If demanding apps or games are a priority, the X300 FE has the stronger stated platform; the M17 is the lower-priced option for buyers whose needs do not call for that tier.
Storage configurations also differ: Samsung’s announced M17 variants all have 128GB storage, with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of RAM. vivo’s later announced X300 FE lineup starts at 256GB storage, with 8GB or 12GB RAM, and includes a 512GB option with 12GB RAM. Consider your storage needs alongside the price rather than treating RAM alone as a performance guarantee.

Camera hardware: telephoto reach or extra close-up and wide lenses?
The M17 has a 50MP OIS main camera, a 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro. The X300 FE pairs its 50MP OIS main camera with a dedicated 50MP OIS telephoto and an 8MP wide camera. That gives the vivo a more capable-looking telephoto setup on paper for framing distant subjects or portraits; it is a hardware comparison, not a claim about measured image quality. The M17’s ultrawide and macro lenses offer different framing options, though their megapixel counts alone do not establish photo quality.

Battery, charging, and protection
The M17 lists a 5000mAh battery and 25W wired charging. The X300 FE lists a 6500mAh battery, 90W wired charging, and 40W wireless FlashCharge. These figures favor the vivo for capacity and charging flexibility, but they do not establish real-world endurance or charging time; usage, conditions, and charger setup matter.
Samsung lists IP54 dust and splash resistance for the M17 and states Gorilla Glass Victus. vivo lists IP68/IP69 for the X300 FE. These are different protection ratings, not an invitation to expose either phone to water or dust beyond its manufacturer’s usage guidance.
Software and update commitments
The M17 launched with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung announced six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates; its product page lists security support through 30 September 2031. The X300 FE specifications list Android 16 with OriginOS 6, and vivo’s August 2026 announcement states five years of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. These are brand commitments; the specifications and announcements do not independently verify the delivery history of future updates. Quick Recap
Which phone should you choose?
- Pick the Galaxy M17 5G if you want a larger display and a lower-cost phone, and the M17’s announced camera, processor, and charging hardware meet your needs. Treat its listed prices as October 2025 launch prices, not current quotes.
- Pick the vivo X300 FE if you prefer a compact phone and specifically value its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform, dedicated telephoto camera, larger listed battery, faster wired charging, wireless charging, or higher protection rating—and its higher dated price fits your budget.
- Check the exact variant before purchasing: the X300 FE has 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB, and 12GB/512GB in the later announced lineup, while the M17 launch lineup uses 128GB storage with three RAM options. Confirm current prices and stock with the seller.
