What is the price difference in India?
At launch, Samsung India priced the M17 at ₹12,499 for 4/128 GB, ₹13,999 for 6/128 GB, and ₹15,499 for 8/128 GB. The M15 launched at ₹12,999 for 4/128 GB; Samsung also announced a time-limited ₹1,000 card/exchange offer that made the stated effective price ₹11,999 under its terms. These are launch-era figures, not current offers.

For a meaningful current comparison, check both phones at the same retailer and match RAM and storage. A 4/128 GB M17 should be compared with a 4/128 GB M15, for example—not with an 8/128 GB listing or a historic promotional price. Which phone has the better camera?
The M17 has the clearer stabilization advantage on paper: Samsung lists optical image stabilization (OIS) for its 50 MP main rear camera. Samsung’s M15 launch announcement describes video digital image stabilization (VDIS). These are different stabilization descriptions, not equivalent features, and they do not by themselves establish which phone takes better photos or video overall.

Both phones have a 50 MP main camera within a triple rear-camera setup and a 13 MP front camera. The M17’s rear secondary cameras are specified as 5 MP and 2 MP. Choose the M17 if OIS is a priority; image quality cannot be ranked from these specifications alone.
How do their displays and build differ?
Both phones have FHD+ Super AMOLED screens with refresh rates up to 90 Hz. Samsung lists a 6.39-inch measured diagonal for the M15 and a 6.7-inch screen for the M17, making the M17 the larger-display option. Samsung’s stated brightness figures are not a directly controlled comparison: its M15 Prime page states 800 nits, while the M17 launch announcement specifies up to 1,100 nits HBM.

The M17 is 7.5 mm thick and weighs 192 g, according to Samsung. Samsung also lists Gorilla Glass Victus and IP54 protection for it. IP54 is not waterproofing: Samsung cautions that water and dust resistance can diminish over time and advises against beach or pool use. The cited official material does not establish an IP rating for the M15.

Samsung announced six generations of OS updates and six years of security updates for the M17, compared with four OS generations and five years of security updates for the M15. Samsung describes these as plans that may change, so treat them as the company’s announced support policy rather than an unconditional guarantee. These figures describe launch announcements, not a check of each phone’s current update rollout.

Which should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy M17 5G if
- You want OIS listed for the main rear camera.
- You value Samsung’s documented IP54 and Gorilla Glass Victus protection, while understanding IP54 is not waterproofing.
- The larger 6.7-inch display or the longer announced update plan matters more to you.
Consider the Galaxy M15 5G if
- A larger stated battery capacity is your priority: 6,000 mAh typical compared with 5,000 mAh typical on the M17.
- You can find it at a meaningfully lower current price for the same RAM and storage.
Neither specification sheet proves actual battery endurance or overall camera superiority. Make the final call using the exact variant, current India price, and the features you value most.
