The Samsung Galaxy M17 5G is the stronger fit if you need 5G, optical image stabilization on the main camera, or a clearly documented software-support period. The Galaxy M14 4G has a higher listed battery capacity and lower reported prices, but those prices are from a different date and configuration, so they are not a like-for-like current comparison.
These are specifically the Galaxy M14 4G and Galaxy M17 5G. Samsung’s separate Galaxy M14 5G is a different phone; its specifications should not be applied to the M14 4G.

Does the Galaxy M17 support 5G?
Yes. Samsung lists the Galaxy M17 5G with 2G through 5G Sub-6 band support. The Galaxy M14 in this comparison is the 4G model, so it does not provide 5G connectivity. Check that the M17’s supported bands and your carrier’s 5G service match the network you plan to use.

Display and camera: what does the M17 add?
Display
Samsung specifies a 6.7-inch-class FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate for the M17. The M14 4G listing used here does not establish its display specifications, so there is not enough evidence here for a detailed display-to-display comparison.

Battery, memory and support: which trade-offs matter?
Battery capacity
The M14 4G listing reports 6000mAh, compared with Samsung’s 5000mAh typical figure for the M17. Capacity alone does not establish which phone lasts longer between charges: the figures do not account for differences in use, network conditions, display settings or other factors.

Memory and storage
The M14 4G listing includes 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB options. Samsung lists the M17 at 4GB/128GB, and its launch announcement also names 6GB/128GB and 8GB/128GB variants. Samsung’s M17 specification page lists microSD support up to 2TB. Confirm the exact configuration and card compatibility with the seller before buying.
Software support
Samsung says the M17 receives six OS generations and six years of security updates, with security updates valid until 30 September 2031 on its product page. The cited sources do not establish an equivalent support promise for the M14 4G. Do not infer the M14 4G’s support period from Samsung’s separate M14 5G announcement, which refers to a different model.

Choose the Galaxy M17 5G if
- You need 5G connectivity and have compatible carrier service.
- You want Samsung’s specified 90Hz Super AMOLED display or OIS on the 50MP main camera.
- A clearly stated software-support period is important to you.
Consider the Galaxy M14 4G if
