Samsung Galaxy FE Settings to Change for Better Battery Life and Privacy

On a Galaxy FE, start with Settings > Device care > Battery: check battery use, enable Power saving only when its restrictions suit you, and put genuinely inactive apps to sleep. Then review display and radio settings. For privacy, audit each app in Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager, inspect recent access in Permission Usage, and treat Samsung and Google diagnostics and advertising controls as separate choices. Menu names and availability vary by FE generation, carrier and One UI version, so use these paths as a guide rather than a guarantee.

Check your FE’s software and establish a baseline

Samsung has used the FE name for several generations of Galaxy phones. A setting shown on one model may be renamed, moved or omitted on another. Samsung’s Device Care guidance specifically notes that model, software and carrier can change the available screens and options. Open Settings > Device care > Battery and look at the battery-use view before changing anything. It identifies the apps and services consuming power on your particular phone instead of asking you to restrict every app indiscriminately.

Device Care can also run an optimization that looks for apps using excessive battery and other device conditions. Record the heavy users and whether the drain occurs while the screen is on or in standby. That baseline lets you tell whether a setting solved a real problem. Samsung’s current Device Care instructions are at Samsung’s Galaxy Device Care support page.

Battery settings worth reviewing

Power saving mode: the broadest battery trade-off

Samsung’s US support route is Settings > Device care > Battery > Power saving. The mode reduces background network activity and syncing. Depending on the FE model and One UI release, its selectable measures can include turning off Always On Display, limiting CPU speed to 70%, reducing brightness by 10%, and limiting apps and the Home screen. A model may show only some of these switches.

  1. Open Settings > Device care > Battery > Power saving.
  2. Read the switches presented on your phone; do not assume every option listed above is available.
  3. Enable the mode when extending time between charges is more important than immediate syncing, full performance or Always On Display.
  4. After enabling it, test notifications, widgets and any app that must update in the background.

Power saving is not a free increase in endurance. Restricting sync can delay email or cloud updates, a CPU limit can make demanding apps slower, and limiting the Home screen can remove conveniences. Turn it off again when you need normal background behavior.

Performance profile: Standard or Light

On supported models, Settings > Device care > Battery > Performance profile offers Standard and Light. Samsung describes Standard as balancing processing speed, battery life and cooling. Light prioritizes battery life over processing speed. Choose Light for routine messaging, browsing and video if you accept a less aggressive performance profile; keep Standard for games, camera processing or other demanding work. The choice changes the balance among speed, heat and endurance rather than guaranteeing extra hours.

Background usage limits: sleep only what can tolerate delay

Samsung Ireland’s battery instructions place these controls at Settings > Device care > Battery > Background usage limits. The available lists are Sleeping apps, Deep sleeping apps and Never auto sleeping apps. Samsung’s application-management documentation explains that the phone can apply sleeping modes based on usage patterns and lets you set exceptions.

List What it does Use it for Risk to check
Sleeping apps Restricts some background activity when an app is not being used. Infrequent apps that do not need instant refreshes. Updates and notifications may arrive later.
Deep sleeping apps Applies a stronger background restriction; the app generally works when you open it. Games, shopping apps or utilities you rarely open. Background messages, uploads or scheduled work can be delayed until launch.
Never auto sleeping apps Exempts selected apps from automatic sleeping. Messaging, wearable, calendar, security or work apps that must remain timely. Keeping many apps exempt increases background activity and can reduce savings.

To change an entry, open the relevant list, add or remove the app, and then observe whether its notifications and synchronization still meet your needs. Do not put an app in Deep sleeping simply because it appears high in a list: first confirm in the battery-use screen that it is a meaningful drain. For technical background, see Samsung’s application-management documentation. One UI 6 and Android 14 also changed foreground-service behavior for apps targeting Android 14, so an old claim that sleeping controls always block every intended foreground service is too broad.

Display, wallpaper and radios

The display is an obvious place to look when your usage is screen-heavy. Samsung’s battery guidance recommends reviewing screen resolution and wallpaper choices. If your FE offers multiple resolutions, a lower setting can reduce rendering work at the cost of sharpness. A darker or still wallpaper may avoid some work compared with an animated or frequently changing one, but the visible effect depends on the panel and your usage.

Turn off radios and features when they are genuinely unused: Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, GPS/location and similar connections. Do not disable Wi‑Fi merely to save power if the phone would then use mobile data or repeatedly search for a network. Likewise, keep Bluetooth for a watch, hearing aid or other accessory that you rely on. These are situational choices, not mandatory switches for every FE owner.

Location accuracy versus battery and data

Location settings combine permission, radio assistance and accuracy features. Samsung explains that location improvements can change accuracy, data use and battery consumption. Open Settings > Location and review the accuracy options shown on your model. Preserve the access and accuracy needed for navigation, emergency features, exercise tracking or device finding; restrict an app that has no credible reason to locate you. Samsung’s regional explanation, updated 23 September 2026, is at Samsung Singapore’s location-permission support page.

Privacy controls to audit app by app

Permission Manager

Use Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager to review access to camera, microphone, location and other sensitive services. Select a permission category, choose an app, and apply the least-privileged option that still supports the feature. Depending on the permission and One UI version, choices can include Allow only while using the app, Ask every time, Allow or Don’t allow.

  1. Open Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager.
  2. Choose a category such as Camera, Microphone or Location.
  3. Open each unfamiliar or high-impact app and read why the permission is needed.
  4. Select the narrowest option that leaves the required function working.
  5. Reopen the app and test its core feature; revoke access again if it fails for a nonessential reason.

For example, a map app may need location while you navigate, while a calculator normally does not need microphone access. A “while in use” choice improves control but can prevent a feature that must operate when the app is closed. Samsung describes the broader Security and privacy hub and its permission controls at Samsung’s Security and privacy support page.

Permission Usage: verify what actually happened

Permission settings show what is allowed; Permission Usage helps you see recent use. Samsung describes a view of which apps used a sensitive permission during the previous 24 hours or seven days. Open the Permission Usage view from the Security and privacy area, select the time window, and inspect unexpected camera, microphone or location access. Then return to Permission manager and change that individual app rather than revoking a category from every app. Samsung’s explanation is in The Knox Journals: Stay in Control of Your Security.

Keep Samsung and Google diagnostic choices separate

Privacy menus can contain controls owned by different services. Samsung’s More privacy settings section includes Send diagnostic data. Google settings include Usage & diagnostics, which Samsung describes as allowing Google to collect device diagnostic information to improve its services. These are not one universal “diagnostics” switch: changing one does not necessarily change the other. Read the explanation beside each toggle and decide separately whether the service benefit is worth the data sharing for you.

Activity and advertising controls

Samsung’s support material also points to Google Activity controls and Ads settings. Depending on region and software version, you may be able to reset the advertising ID or disable apps’ use of it. Resetting the identifier does not erase every account record or stop all advertising; it changes how apps use that advertising identifier. Labels and availability can differ, so follow the controls presented under your signed-in Google settings.

Security and privacy is broader than permissions

The Security and privacy hub also presents a wider device-security check. Permission decisions reduce unnecessary data access, but they do not replace screen locking, software updates, phishing awareness or account protection. Use the hub to review those areas without assuming that a privacy toggle alone secures the phone.

A practical order for making changes

Use this sequence so that each change has an observable purpose:

  1. Record the top consumers in Settings > Device care > Battery and run Device Care optimization.
  2. Choose Standard or Light under Performance profile according to whether speed or endurance matters more for your normal workload.
  3. Enable Power saving only for periods when delayed sync, reduced brightness, a possible CPU limit or a disabled Always On Display are acceptable.
  4. Place clearly infrequent apps in Sleeping or Deep sleeping, and exempt only apps whose background timing is important.
  5. Review resolution, wallpaper, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi and location-assistance choices in light of how you actually use the phone.
  6. Audit Camera, Microphone and Location in Permission manager, then check Permission Usage for the previous 24 hours or seven days.
  7. Review Samsung’s Send diagnostic data, Google’s Usage & diagnostics, Activity controls and Ads settings as separate decisions.
  8. Use the phone normally for a day or two and revisit the battery-use screen. Keep a restriction only if it solves a measured drain without breaking a required function.

Common problems after changing settings

Notifications arrive late

Check whether the affected app is in Deep sleeping or Sleeping apps. Move it to a less restrictive list or Never auto sleeping if timely alerts are essential, then verify that Power saving is not limiting background network activity.

An app cannot use the camera, microphone or location

Open Permission manager, select the service and inspect that app’s setting. “Ask every time” or “while using” may be working as designed; choose a broader option only when the feature genuinely needs it. Also check whether a separate in-app permission or account setting is required.

Navigation or tracking became unreliable

Review Settings > Location and the app’s location permission. Re-enable the accuracy assistance your navigation or tracking workflow requires. The battery cost and data use of location improvements vary with conditions, so a blanket location shutdown is not an appropriate fix for every owner.

A setting or menu is missing

That is often a model, carrier or software-version difference rather than an error. Search Settings for “Power saving,” “Background usage limits,” “Permission manager” or “Permission Usage,” and install available system updates. Do not infer that an option exists just because another FE generation displays it.

Battery life did not improve

Return to the battery-use view and identify the current top consumers. If the drain comes from a single app, update it, check its own sync settings and test it outside Sleeping or Deep sleeping before imposing wider restrictions. There is no official, universal Galaxy FE percentage or extra-hours figure that these controls guarantee; the result depends on model, network, display use, signal conditions and the apps you run.
