Samsung announced the Galaxy Buds On on October 1, 2026: its first clip-style earbuds in the Galaxy Buds line. They sit around the ear while leaving the ear canal open. The only launch announced so far is in South Korea on October 27, for KRW 299,000; Samsung has not provided dates or prices for other markets.
What are the Galaxy Buds On?
Galaxy Buds On are open-ear, clip-on wireless earbuds. Rather than sealing the ear canal, each bud rests around the ear, a design intended to let listeners remain more aware of nearby sounds while listening. Samsung positions them for everyday use, including outdoor settings.

Samsung calls them the first clip-style wireless earbuds in the Galaxy Buds family. They join the open wireless stereo (OWS) category, which includes clip-on and ear-hook designs.

The specifications and benefits below are Samsung’s descriptions, not findings from independent product testing. Samsung has not published a comparative test establishing how the Buds On perform against other open-ear earbuds.
#1 Best Overall
- EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO: Catch details like never before. Designed with a High-Res Audio¹ 24-bit hi-fi codec, the latest Galaxy earbuds maintain the integrity of your favorite audio over Bluetooth.
- TWO-WAY SPEAKER: Enjoy every audio experience to the fullest with two speakers in both Buds, including a tweeter for rich highs and a woofer for deep, full lows.
- HD VOICE: Enjoy clear phone calls with Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Galaxy S26 Series² —they work together to deliver crisp and clear conversations.
- ANC 2.0: Wherever you go, Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation 2.0³ intelligently adapts in real time to provide stronger, smoother noise cancellation wherever you go.
- OPTIMIZED COMFORT: Enjoy that just-right fit, with an improved, ear-hugging design and changeable ear tips.
Fit and movement
Samsung says it analyzed different ear shapes and used simulations to position the speaker and battery. It describes a wider contact area intended to spread pressure and a tuned band designed to keep the earbuds attached during movement. Those design claims do not establish that the buds will feel comfortable or stay secure for every wearer.
Sound and leakage
Samsung says TwinBoost speakers are intended to improve low frequencies, while automatic volume adjustment responds to the environment. Its Audio Leakage Reduction feature is designed to limit sound escaping outward. Samsung cautions that it cannot eliminate leakage: the amount may vary with listening volume, ear shape, surrounding noise and fit, and may be more noticeable in quiet places.

Battery, calls and hardware
Samsung specifies the Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform and a Class-D amplifier. It claims up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge. The announcement does not give a combined listening time including the charging case.
For calls, Samsung lists three microphones and a voice pickup unit sensor that detects vibration associated with speech. It says machine-learning processing is intended to separate the wearer’s voice from background noise; no independent call-quality results are available in the reviewed reporting.

Controls and Galaxy features
- Samsung says taps on the rear of an earbud can control key playback and call functions.
- With a Galaxy AI-supporting phone or tablet, the earbuds support Gemini Live voice interaction, Quick Voice Memo and head gestures for calls, alarms and message notifications.
- Quick Voice Memo requires a Galaxy AI-compatible device, Samsung Voice Recorder and Bixby; Samsung says the long-press action must be configured. Bixby can search recordings.
- Opening the case is described as enabling connection to a Galaxy phone or tablet. Volume and equalizer settings are available through device settings and the quick panel without installing the Galaxy Wearable app.

Why Samsung is entering the clip-on category
Market figures suggest the format is gaining ground, although they do not establish why Samsung chose to launch this product. Omdia reported that OWS shipments rose 12% year over year to 11.1 million units in the second quarter of 2026, while conventional true wireless stereo (TWS) shipments fell 2%. OWS accounted for 13.5% of total TWS shipments that quarter, up from 12.0% a year earlier.

Clip-on designs made up 61% of OWS shipments in 2Q 2026, compared with 39% for ear-hook designs. Those percentages describe shipments within the OWS category—not all earbuds sold or consumer preferences. Omdia also reported 82.1 million TWS units shipped overall in the quarter, down 0.7% year over year. It attributed much of that decline to mainland China shipments falling 9.5%, amid fading consumer-electronics stimulus and replacement demand brought forward into 2025; growth in emerging markets partly offset declines in China, the United States and India.
Omdia forecast OWS shipments would increase from 43.9 million units in 2026 to 90.5 million by 2030. That is a forecast, not a measured future result. Its September 17, 2026 release also reported especially fast growth in the below-US$50 OWS segment (323%) and the US$100–199 segment (253%) in 2Q 2026, year over year.

What the announcement does—and does not—tell buyers
The open-ear design may suit someone who wants to hear some ambient sound rather than block the ear canal. It is not a substitute for checking the fit, call quality, sound performance or leakage in person: Samsung’s specifications are manufacturer claims, and no hands-on or independent comparative test is established by the cited coverage. Omdia Research Director Jason Low identified comfort, audio quality, call quality and active noise cancellation performance as priorities for users, all of which remain relevant points to assess when comparing earbuds.
For now, the practical buying information depends on location. The confirmed launch details are for South Korea only; shoppers elsewhere will need Samsung to announce local timing and pricing before deciding whether or when the Buds On can be purchased there.
