To stop your Samsung Galaxy from automatically changing words, turn off Auto replace in Samsung Keyboard settings: open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Auto replace, then switch it off. You can leave Predictive text on to keep seeing suggestions without having words automatically replaced.

Samsung’s US support instructions describe Auto replace as completing or replacing the word being typed with the word the keyboard considers most likely for the sentence. Samsung Keyboard settings can also be opened from the keyboard’s Settings icon. The exact screen layout and labels vary by Galaxy model and software version.
Choose whether to keep word suggestions
Auto replace and Predictive text do different things. Auto replace controls automatic substitutions; Predictive text controls the predictive suggestions shown as you type.

Find the setting if the menu path differs
If Samsung Keyboard settings is not listed under General management, look for keyboard controls under Language and input, On-screen keyboard, or Smart typing. The available path depends on the device and software; Samsung’s UK instructions, updated 5 June 2026, note that some options may not be available on older devices or operating systems.

You can also open Samsung Keyboard settings by tapping its Settings icon while the keyboard is displayed. If the controls still do not match, check which keyboard is active: Samsung’s instructions apply to Samsung Keyboard, and settings differ for third-party keyboard apps.
Fix other typing behaviors separately
Suggestions still appear
Turn off Predictive text if you want to hide the suggestion bar. Auto replace can be off while suggestions remain available.

Misspelled words are still underlined
Auto spell check is separate from Auto replace. Turn it off in Samsung Keyboard settings if you do not want spell-check underlines and correction suggestions; leave it on if you still want that spelling help.

Remove one unwanted learned word
When the word appears in the keyboard’s suggestion toolbar, press and hold it, then confirm its removal. Samsung describes this option in its keyboard guidance.

Clear learned predictions more broadly
Use the keyboard’s reset-to-default or personalized-predictions controls to clear learned predictions. Labels vary by version, and clearing learned predictions is not required to turn off Auto replace.

Confirm that Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard; a third-party keyboard has its own settings.

Reopen Samsung Keyboard settings and check that Auto replace is off.

Type a test phrase. If words are no longer substituted but suggestions remain visible, that is Predictive text; switch it off only if you also want to hide suggestions.
