Short answer: the Galaxy A58 leak points to the same headline camera resolutions as the Galaxy A57—50 MP main, 12 MP ultrawide, 5 MP macro and 12 MP front. That does not prove the phones use the same sensors, lenses, image-processing pipeline or produce the same photos. Samsung has published A57 specifications, while A58 remains unconfirmed; there is no official A58 specification sheet or independent camera test yet.
If you need a phone now, the A57 is the only choice here with verified hardware, launch pricing and retail availability. If camera quality is your main reason to upgrade, wait for Samsung’s announcement and independent testing rather than assuming that equal megapixel counts mean equal results.

What is actually confirmed about each phone?
The comparison is not between two fully documented products. Samsung’s Galaxy A57 is an announced, sold device. The Galaxy A58 information comes from a SamMobile report dated 14 October 2026, so every A58 detail below should be treated as provisional until Samsung publishes final specifications.

On resolution alone, the two lineups look unchanged. Resolution is only the number of pixels captured in an image; it does not identify the sensor, its physical size, the lens quality, stabilization or the processing used to turn sensor data into a finished photograph.

Does the A58 have a different main sensor?
There is no confirmed answer. The leak identifies the A58 main camera as 50 MP but does not provide a sensor model or part number. Samsung’s published A57 specification identifies the main unit as a 50 MP wide camera with OIS and an f/1.8 aperture, but the specification information supplied here does not name its sensor part number either.
Consequently, three possibilities remain open: A58 could reuse the A57 sensor, use a different 50 MP sensor with similar output, or pair the same resolution with a changed lens, stabilization system or image signal processor. The current evidence cannot distinguish among them. A 50 MP label should therefore be read as a resolution claim, not as proof of identical or upgraded hardware.
Why equal megapixels do not mean equal photos
Sensor size and pixel behavior
Two sensors can record 50 MP while having different physical dimensions and pixel designs. A larger or newer sensor may collect more light per exposure, preserve more detail in shadows and produce cleaner images at night. Conversely, a smaller sensor can still deliver sharp daylight images when lighting is favorable. Without an A58 sensor identifier or measurements, no defensible claim about its low-light advantage can be made.

The A57 main camera is listed at f/1.8, while its ultrawide and macro cameras are listed at f/2.2 and f/2.4 respectively. The A58 leak does not state any of those apertures. Aperture affects how much light reaches the sensor and influences shutter speeds, noise and background rendering, so an unchanged megapixel count cannot tell you whether the optics changed.

Optical stabilisation
Samsung explicitly lists OIS for the A57 main camera. OIS can counter small hand movements during still photography and video, particularly when exposures are longer. The A58 leak does not confirm OIS, so it is not possible to assume that the newer phone has the same stabilization hardware, a revised system or no change at all.
Image processing and computational photography
The sensor produces raw data; the phone’s image signal processor and camera software decide how to reduce noise, merge frames, render highlights, sharpen textures and balance color. A58 could therefore look different even if it reuses an A57 sensor. Those differences cannot be evaluated from a resolution list and require final software plus controlled samples.
What the Galaxy A57 gives you today
The A57’s official camera set is specific enough to establish a practical baseline:
- Main: 50 MP wide camera, f/1.8, with OIS.
- Ultrawide: 12 MP, f/2.2.
- Macro: 5 MP, f/2.4.
- Selfie: 12 MP, f/2.2; Samsung does not list autofocus or OIS for this camera.
- Video: 4K UHD at 30 fps.
These figures describe the hardware Samsung has published, not a guarantee of a particular photo score. Real results still depend on lighting, subject movement, software updates and how you use each camera. They do, however, give buyers verifiable information that is currently missing for the A58.

What the October 2026 A58 leak establishes—and what it does not
Established by the report
- The reported rear-camera resolutions are 50 MP, 12 MP and 5 MP.
- The reported front-camera resolution is 12 MP.
Not established
- Main-camera sensor make, model or physical size.
- Main-camera aperture and whether OIS is included.
- Ultrawide and macro apertures, lens construction or autofocus behavior.
- Front-camera autofocus, HDR and stabilization features.
- Video resolutions, frame rates, stabilization modes or codec options.
- Final camera software, launch price, release date or retail configuration.
- Any measured image-quality difference from the A57.
Until Samsung publishes a specification sheet, the A58 should be described as a future, leak-based device rather than a confirmed camera upgrade.
How to compare the cameras when the A58 is official
When final hardware and review units exist, use the following order. It prevents a resolution headline from deciding the comparison for you.
1. Verify the physical hardware
Check Samsung’s final specification page for the main sensor identifier, sensor size if provided, aperture, OIS and autofocus. Repeat the check for the ultrawide, macro and front cameras. A changed sensor or lens is a meaningful hardware difference; a repeated 50 MP label by itself is not.

Compare identical scenes at the same focal length and output setting. Look at fine foliage, brick, hair and text near the center and edges of the frame. Examine highlight retention in bright skies and the consistency of color between frames. A higher-detail crop is useful only if it also preserves natural texture instead of adding aggressive sharpening.

3. Test low light and moving subjects
Use a dim indoor scene and an evening street scene, then photograph a person or moving object. Record shutter speed, blur, shadow noise, color casts and the number of frames needed to obtain a usable result. OIS and multi-frame processing can make a larger practical difference than the nominal resolution.
4. Test the ultrawide separately
Do not infer ultrawide quality from the main camera. Check edge stretching, corner softness, exposure consistency and color matching when switching between lenses. The A57’s ultrawide is a 12 MP f/2.2 unit; the A58 leak confirms only 12 MP, so its optical performance remains an open question.
5. Treat the macro camera as a specialized tool
Compare minimum focusing distance, usable detail and lighting requirements. A 5 MP macro camera can be convenient for close subjects, but its usefulness depends on focus behavior and light, neither of which is specified for the A58.

6. Evaluate selfies and portrait processing
Use backlit and indoor portraits to inspect skin texture, hair edges, exposure and HDR. The A57 front camera is 12 MP f/2.2 without autofocus or OIS listed by Samsung. The A58’s 12 MP front-camera resolution does not reveal whether those characteristics changed.

7. Check video stabilization and detail
Record walking footage, a static scene and a panning shot at every officially supported mode. Compare stabilization crops, focus transitions, audio consistency, exposure shifts and detail in motion. The A57 is documented for 4K at 30 fps; no final A58 video specification is available, so video could be an area where the phones differ even if still-image resolutions match.

For shoppers searching current listings, the phrase “Samsung Galaxy A57 5G” identifies the announced model. Buying it should be based on its verified capabilities and the seller’s current price, not on an assumed A58 camera upgrade.
Price, availability and support context
Samsung lists a US starting price of $549.99 for the Galaxy A57, with US availability from 9 April 2026. Samsung Electronics Japan lists SIM-free sales beginning 23 April 2026 and states that the model receives six generations of OS upgrades. Those dates and support details apply to the A57 market information cited here; they are not an A58 release promise.
The A58 has no confirmed final price, regional launch schedule or official camera support information in the evidence available for this comparison. A future launch could change the value calculation, but it cannot be used to justify paying more today for an unverified camera.
What would count as a genuine A58 camera improvement?
A meaningful upgrade would need to show more than a larger number on a specification line. Look for at least one of these verifiable changes:
- A demonstrably newer or larger main sensor, with a named part number or independently documented specification.
- A brighter or optically improved lens, or confirmed OIS where the A57 already has it.
- Better ultrawide hardware rather than the same 12 MP resolution with unknown optics.
- Improved autofocus, HDR, stabilization or low-light processing supported by controlled samples.
- Higher-quality or more stable video modes than the A57’s documented 4K/30 capability.
- Independent tests showing cleaner night images, more consistent exposure, better detail or less motion blur at comparable settings.
If none of these appears, the A58 may still offer other non-camera improvements, but the current evidence does not support calling it a camera upgrade over the A57.
Bottom line for the camera question
Galaxy A58 and Galaxy A57 appear to share the same headline camera resolutions, but “50 MP + 12 MP + 5 MP” does not answer whether their cameras are actually the same. The A57 has confirmed 50 MP f/1.8 OIS, 12 MP f/2.2 ultrawide, 5 MP f/2.4 macro, 12 MP f/2.2 front and 4K/30 video specifications. The A58 leak confirms only the resolution pattern and leaves sensors, optics, stabilization, processing and video unspecified. Buy the A57 for a verified phone available now; wait for official A58 specifications and independent tests if a camera improvement is the deciding factor.
