The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G wins on portability and update clarity: 179g against 229g, and a defined six-generation Android commitment. A trustworthy price difference can’t be given globally. The only hard price figure is Samsung’s $549.99 U.S. launch price, and there is no matching same-market Xiaomi price to subtract from it.
Specs side by side
Samsung’s figures come from its March 25, 2026 announcement and global spec page. Xiaomi’s come from its global product page and India specification page, both viewed on October 5, 2026 with no publication date shown. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.

Display
The Redmi has the larger and sharper panel on paper: 6.83 inches at 1.5K, against 6.7 inches at FHD+. Both list 120Hz. Peak brightness, colour accuracy and outdoor visibility depend on test methods, so a spec sheet can’t settle them. Treat the Redmi as the pick for a bigger screen with more pixels, and don’t assume it looks better until independent measurements agree.

Battery and charging
The gap is the largest on the sheet: 10,000mAh against 5,000mAh, with 100W charging on the Xiaomi. Samsung’s own charging claim is about 60% in around 30 minutes. Capacity doesn’t convert directly to screen-on time, because software tuning, the chipset and display load all matter. No independent endurance or charging-curve test was available, so expect the Redmi to last longer, but don’t expect an exact “twice as long” result.

Charger contents also vary. Xiaomi notes that the box may include an adapter and protective case depending on region, so check what ships in yours.
Size and weight
The battery has a cost in the hand. The A57 is 179g and 6.9 mm thick. The Redmi is listed at 229g and about 8.6 mm on Xiaomi’s India page, 50g heavier and visibly thicker. Xiaomi says measurements can vary, so other regional variants may differ slightly. If you carry the phone one-handed all day or hold it for long calls, the Samsung’s weight advantage is probably the most noticeable difference in daily use.

Cameras
Samsung lists a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro and a 12MP front camera. This article doesn’t compare image quality, because no independent camera test for both phones was available, and megapixel counts or sensor lists don’t predict results. The Xiaomi page also mentions an underwater camera mode, limited to static freshwater up to 2 m for 30 minutes, with a professional waterproof case recommended.

Samsung states IP68. Xiaomi describes IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, which on paper means broader protection against jets and hot water. These ratings apply under specific lab conditions. They don’t cover all liquids, drops or wear over time, and water damage is generally not covered by warranty, so check the terms for your region.

Software and updates
Samsung’s commitment is explicit: up to six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. Xiaomi’s global page uses the looser phrase “6-year like-new software experience”. That isn’t the same as a stated OS-plus-security count, so don’t assume parity until Xiaomi’s terms for your market spell it out. The Redmi’s India listing ships HyperOS 3 on Android 16.
What is the price difference?
Samsung’s only hard figure is $549.99 for the U.S. starting configuration at launch. It’s a launch price in one country, not today’s street price, and discounts, carrier deals and storage tiers change it. The Xiaomi sources gave no price, and Xiaomi sells in markets where Samsung’s U.S. price is irrelevant. Any gap quoted without a shared market, currency and configuration is a guess.

To get a real number:
- Pick one country and one retailer type (official store or a major retailer).
- Match RAM and storage on both phones.
- Record the price excluding bank offers, trade-in credits and bundles, and note the date.
- Subtract, then compare the net price including what’s in the box (charger, case).
Which should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy A57 5G if you want a lighter, thinner phone and a clearly defined six-year update policy.
- Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G if battery life, fast charging, a larger higher-resolution screen and the broader IP ratings matter more than weight.
- Wait for local pricing if the Xiaomi isn’t sold in your market, or if its price lands far from Samsung’s. Price will decide this more than any single spec.
Samsung’s CEO TM Roh described the new Galaxy A series as reflecting “our continued commitment to AI democratization by bringing the latest innovations to more Galaxy users.” That is positioning, not evidence of better performance.
