Specifications describe advertised hardware and features, not comparative test results. They do not establish which phone is faster in everyday use, takes better photographs or lasts longer on a charge. How much more did the Xiaomi 17T cost?
In the UK launch-era figures available for the 256GB models, Samsung’s Galaxy A57 had a £529 RRP and the Xiaomi 17T was reported at £649—an arithmetic difference of £120. Samsung’s UK availability notice listed the A57 256GB RRP and availability from April 10, 2026; TechRadar’s June 2, 2026 review reported the Xiaomi 17T at £649 for 256GB and £699 for 512GB. Those dated figures are not current price quotes, and retailer discounts, bundles, stock and configurations can change the gap.

In the US, Samsung announced a $549.99 starting price for the A57, with availability beginning April 9, 2026. That is a US launch price, not a like-for-like comparison with the UK prices above. No comparable Xiaomi US launch price is established here. Check the same country and storage tier before deciding which is better value. Display: bigger on Samsung, sharper on Xiaomi’s listed specs
The A57 has the larger diagonal screen: 6.7 inches versus 6.59 inches on the 17T. Xiaomi specifies a 1.5K resolution of 2756 × 1268, while Samsung describes the A57 panel as FHD+. Both manufacturers list refresh rates up to 120Hz. The spec sheets therefore favour Samsung if a slightly larger panel is the priority and Xiaomi if its higher stated pixel resolution is more important; they do not establish differences in brightness, colour accuracy or viewing quality.
Cameras: Xiaomi adds a periscope telephoto lens
The clearest hardware distinction is the third rear camera. Xiaomi lists a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and a 115mm-equivalent focal length, alongside a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 12MP ultrawide. Samsung lists a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro camera.

Choose based on the kinds of shots you want to frame: the Xiaomi has a dedicated telephoto option, while Samsung includes a macro camera. Megapixel counts and lens types alone cannot show which phone produces better images. No comparable camera test result is established in the cited material.

Battery and charging: compare the claims, not assumed endurance
Xiaomi specifies a 6500mAh typical silicon-carbon battery and 67W HyperCharge; its global specifications say a power adapter is not included. Samsung lists a 5000mAh typical battery and says its Super Fast Charging 2.0 can reach up to 60% in around 30 minutes, with the charger sold separately. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not a head-to-head battery or charging test. Do not infer real-world battery life from capacity alone.

Software support: Samsung states a duration
Samsung says the A57 will receive up to six generations of OS upgrades and up to six years of security and maintenance releases. Xiaomi’s consulted global specification page identifies HyperOS 3 but does not state an equivalent support duration. That source limitation does not establish that Xiaomi has no support policy; it means a direct duration comparison cannot be made from the cited specifications. If long-term update certainty is central to your purchase, verify the current commitment for your country and exact model before buying.
Size, durability and regional details
Samsung lists the A57 at 179g and 6.9mm thick; Xiaomi lists the 17T at 200g and 8.17mm. Xiaomi is shorter and narrower, while Samsung is lighter and thinner. Both list IP68, but that rating is based on controlled testing, not a promise that a phone is waterproof. Samsung specifies freshwater submersion up to 1.5m for up to 30 minutes and warns resistance may diminish with wear; it does not recommend beach or pool use. Xiaomi also cautions that real-world conditions can exceed laboratory tests.

Before ordering, check local network bands, carrier compatibility, eSIM support, warranty terms and the storage configuration being sold. Xiaomi notes that eSIM availability can vary by region and carrier; features and specifications can differ by market.

- Consider the Xiaomi 17T if a dedicated periscope telephoto camera, higher stated display resolution, larger advertised battery capacity or 67W charging are priorities—and the local price premium makes sense to you.
- Consider the Galaxy A57 5G if you prefer the larger display, a lighter and thinner body, Samsung’s explicitly stated update commitment, or a lower price in your market.
- Compare local listings before choosing on value. The cited £120 UK gap is based on dated launch-era 256GB prices, not today’s offers or prices in another country.
Neither specification sheet settles performance, camera quality or battery endurance. Those require comparable independent testing; the published specifications support a choice by features and stated commitments, not a universal winner.
