Choose the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G if your priorities are a larger, sharper display and the biggest advertised battery with faster charging. Choose the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G if you want a slimmer, lighter phone, Samsung’s clearly stated Android and One UI upgrade policy, and an established regional support channel. Neither is an unconditional winner: the better buy depends on your country’s price, the exact storage variant, network compatibility, and whether you value endurance hardware or long-term software certainty more.
The comparison below uses Samsung’s 2026 US and Hong Kong specifications and Xiaomi’s Global REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G page. Those sources do not establish current like-for-like prices, local stock, carrier-band compatibility, or an independent head-to-head camera, speed, or battery result.

At a glance: the decision in one minute
| Priority | Stronger published case | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Largest and highest-resolution screen | REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G | 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED at 120Hz, versus the Galaxy A57’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus at up to 120Hz. |
| Battery capacity and charging | REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G | 8,340mAh typical capacity and 67W charging, versus 5,000mAh and up to 45W for the A57. |
| Thin, light design | Galaxy A57 5G | Samsung’s Hong Kong specification sheet lists 161.5 × 76.8 × 6.9mm and 179g. |
| Published Android upgrade clarity | Galaxy A57 5G | Samsung says up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, plus up to six years of security updates. |
| Security-update duration claim | Both advertise six years | Xiaomi also advertises six years of security updates; the promises should be checked in the policy for your market. |
| Water and dust ratings on paper | REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G | Xiaomi lists IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K, while Samsung lists IP68. Both ratings are laboratory claims with limits. |
These are specification-based conclusions, not measured winners. A larger battery does not guarantee a specific number of hours, and a higher-resolution panel does not by itself prove better calibration, brightness or outdoor readability.

Display: REDMI offers more room and pixels
REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G
Xiaomi lists a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. That combination gives the REDMI the larger screen and higher stated resolution. It is attractive for reading, maps, games and video when you prefer a spacious canvas.
Galaxy A57 5G
Samsung’s US support specification lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus Infinity-O display with refresh rates up to 120Hz. It is slightly smaller and lower in stated resolution, but the specification still describes a high-refresh AMOLED screen rather than a basic LCD.
Published resolution and refresh rate do not reveal peak brightness, color accuracy, touch latency, HDR behavior or how aggressively each phone reduces refresh rate to save power. Those characteristics require measurements or a hands-on comparison. If you buy online, check the exact regional panel specification and return policy rather than assuming that “1.5K” guarantees a visibly superior experience in every situation.

Capacity and charging figures
The REDMI’s advertised 8,340mAh typical battery is substantially larger than the Galaxy A57’s 5,000mAh typical capacity. Xiaomi also lists 67W HyperCharge, while Samsung lists wired charging up to 45W. On the published hardware figures alone, REDMI is the more ambitious choice for long trips, hotspot use, gaming sessions and people who dislike frequent charging.

New activations are supported on T-Mobile and Its MVNO's in the U.S., as some carriers may not recognize International IMEI's as Compatible. (No U.S. manufacturer warranty; Seller Return policy applies.)
- This model is Dual SIM with eSIM capability however the configuration is either SIM+SIM or eSIM+SIM 6.7” Super AMOLED Display (120Hz). Enjoy ultra-smooth scrolling and vibrant colors with a large Full HD+ screen, perfect for streaming, gaming, and browsing.

Why capacity does not equal battery life
Battery endurance depends on display size and brightness, modem behavior, processor efficiency, software tuning, temperature, signal strength and the apps you use. The REDMI’s larger 6.83-inch, 1.5K panel can consume more power than a smaller, lower-resolution display in some workloads. Conversely, its much larger cell may still provide more reserve. The available manufacturer material does not provide a common laboratory endurance test, so do not convert either capacity figure into a promised number of hours.
Charging expectations
“Up to” 45W and 67W describe maximum wired charging capability under compatible conditions, not a constant rate from empty to full. Charger availability, cable requirements, temperature and charge-management behavior affect actual times. Samsung’s US support page says the A57 does not support wireless charging or PowerShare. Verify what charger is included with the REDMI in your country before budgeting for accessories.
Design and durability
Galaxy A57: the easier phone to carry
Samsung’s Hong Kong sheet lists the A57 at 6.9mm thick and 179g, with a footprint of 161.5 × 76.8mm. That makes it the clearly documented slimmer, lighter option in this comparison. The measurements are regional specifications, so confirm dimensions for the SKU sold in your market if a case fit or pocketability is important.
REDMI: broader resistance claims with stricter caveats
Xiaomi advertises IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. Its notes tie those ratings to controlled freshwater laboratory tests and warn that resistance can decline with wear or damage. They also state that damage caused outside the tested conditions is not covered by warranty.

- PRO SHOTS, NO PROBLEM: Capture every moment effortlessly on Galaxy A37 5G with the advanced triple-lens camera system featuring a 50MP HDR main camera and a studio-grade front camera
- MORE POWER. MORE AWESOME: Enjoy smooth performance on Galaxy A37 5G. From detailed graphics while gaming to quick app launches and effortless multitasking, the Exynos 1480 keeps everything running
Samsung lists IP68 for the Galaxy A57. That is also a laboratory rating, not permission to deliberately submerge the phone, use it in salt water or treat an open charging port as waterproof. Keep both devices away from intentional liquid exposure, dry them before charging and follow the manufacturer’s care guidance. A higher number on a product page cannot eliminate the risk of impact damage, worn seals or contaminated water.
Software support: distinguish operating-system upgrades from security coverage
Samsung’s promise
Samsung says the Galaxy A57 receives up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. “Up to” matters: delivery timing, feature availability and the final number of updates can depend on region, carrier and model. Samsung’s 2026 US material identifies Android 16 and One UI 8.5 for the launch configuration.
Xiaomi’s promises
Xiaomi’s Global REDMI page advertises six years of security updates. It also describes a 60-month “like-new software experience” based on Xiaomi Internal Labs’ software-aging test and says actual results vary. That statement is not the same as a guarantee that every user’s phone will perform identically for five years, nor is it a stated number of Android-version upgrades.

- Open the manufacturer’s support policy for your country, not only a global product page.
- Check the exact model number and whether the retailer is selling an imported variant.
- Confirm the promised Android-version upgrades separately from the security-update duration.
- Ask the carrier or seller how warranty service and software support work for that regional SKU.
Samsung therefore has the clearer published operating-system upgrade statement in the material available here, while both brands advertise six years of security updates. That is a meaningful distinction, but not proof that one phone will receive every patch sooner.

Performance, cameras and AI: avoid declaring a winner from names or megapixels
Processing hardware
Samsung’s Hong Kong specification identifies the Exynos 1680. Xiaomi lists the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. Processor names alone do not establish which phone is faster in games, photography, multitasking or sustained workloads. No common independent benchmark was established for these two exact models, so a categorical performance ranking would be guesswork.
Camera hardware
Samsung lists a 50MP optically stabilized main camera, 12MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro and 12MP front camera. OIS can help reduce blur from hand movement, but it does not guarantee better image quality in every scene. Xiaomi promotes its camera system and AI features on the Global page, yet promotional language and resolution figures do not establish a camera winner. Look for sample photos from the exact regional firmware if camera quality is your deciding factor.
AI features
Samsung frames the 2026 Galaxy A series as part of its effort to broaden access to AI features. That is a corporate positioning statement, not an independent quality measurement. Feature availability can vary by language, region, account and software version. Compare the specific tools you will use rather than buying on the presence of an “AI” label.
Price, storage and regional availability
Samsung’s known launch reference
Samsung Newsroom US announced an unlocked Galaxy A57 5G starting at $549.99 in Awesome Navy, with US availability starting April 9, 2026. This is a launch announcement from March 2026, not a verified current price. Samsung’s US support table lists 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB storage and no microSD expansion.

Hong Kong configurations are not global pricing
Samsung Hong Kong lists a suggested retail price of HKD 4,698 for 12GB/256GB and HKD 5,498 for 12GB/512GB. Those prices apply to that market and should not be converted into a worldwide value judgment.
REDMI pricing must be checked locally
The cited Xiaomi page is Global specification material; it does not establish a current retail price, stock position or affiliate listing in your country. Before choosing the REDMI on value, compare the local price of the exact RAM/storage version with the A57 configuration available through an authorized seller. Also verify 5G bands and VoLTE or carrier certification, because imported phones can lack support for local networks even when the hardware name is identical.
Which phone fits your priorities?
Choose the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G when:
- You want the largest screen and highest stated resolution in this pair.
- You place a high value on an 8,340mAh typical battery and 67W charging.
- The local version has the bands, warranty and software support you need.
- You accept that Xiaomi’s 60-month software-experience statement is a lab-tested claim, not an Android-upgrade count.
Choose the Galaxy A57 5G when:
- You prefer a documented 179g, 6.9mm design from Samsung’s regional specification sheet.
- You want Samsung’s explicit up-to-six-generation Android and One UI upgrade statement.
- You need a known US configuration with 128GB or 256GB storage and do not require a microSD card.
- You value Samsung’s local retail, carrier and warranty availability over maximum battery capacity.
Pause before buying either phone when:
- The seller cannot provide the exact model number or regional warranty.
- You have not checked 5G bands and carrier certification.
- The listing combines specifications from different countries.
- You are relying on an old launch price rather than today’s price for both phones.
A practical pre-purchase checklist
- Identify the market. Write down your country, carrier and desired storage capacity.
- Match the SKU. Compare model numbers, RAM, storage, processor listing and included accessories.
- Check network compatibility. Confirm 5G bands, 4G fallback, VoLTE and eSIM or physical-SIM requirements with your carrier.
- Verify support terms. Read the regional Android-upgrade and security-update policy, including the start date used for the support period.
- Confirm price and warranty. Use the same tax treatment, seller type and warranty length when comparing totals.
- Decide whether size is a benefit. The REDMI’s larger display and battery can improve media use but may be less comfortable in one hand; the A57’s documented lighter body is easier to carry.
- Buy from a returnable source. Test signal reception, charging, display comfort and camera behavior during the return window.
Bottom line
On published specifications, the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is the hardware-forward choice: it offers the larger 6.83-inch 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display, 8,340mAh typical battery and 67W charging, plus broader advertised IP ratings. The Galaxy A57 5G is the more compact documented design and the safer choice for buyers who prioritize Samsung’s explicit up-to-six-generation Android and One UI upgrade policy.
Do not call either phone the universal best buy. Check the current local prices, exact storage variants, network bands, warranty and regional support terms first. If the REDMI’s local version is properly supported and priced competitively, its display and battery specifications make it compelling. If Samsung’s support policy and lighter body matter more—or if the REDMI is an imported, poorly supported SKU—the Galaxy A57 is the more sensible purchase.
