What’s different between the A57 and A56?
The A57 is thinner and lighter
Samsung gives the A57 a thickness of 6.9 mm. Android Central’s April 2026 comparison reports weights of 179 g for the A57 and 198 g for the A56. That 19 g difference may be noticeable if you carry your phone all day or prefer a less weighty handset, though the weight figures come from the independent comparison rather than Samsung’s cited product pages.
The A57 has an IP68 rating
Samsung rates the A57 IP68 and the A56 IP67. These are laboratory ingress ratings, not guarantees against water damage; neither phone should be treated as waterproof. The higher rating is a practical advantage for buyers who want more protection against dust and water exposure, but it does not make careless submersion risk-free.

The A57 adds Wi‑Fi 6E and newer software features
Samsung lists Wi‑Fi 6E support for the A57. It also ships in the One UI 8.5 generation with features including Voice Transcription and expanded AI Select. Samsung has also highlighted Object Eraser improvements and A57 Best Face. Availability of particular features can vary by market and rollout. These additions matter most if you will use them or have a compatible Wi‑Fi 6E network; they are not, by themselves, a reason every A56 owner needs to replace a working phone.
Software support commitments sound alike, but the clocks do not
Samsung states up to six generations of OS upgrades and up to six years of security updates for both models. The A56 arrived earlier, so the two phones do not have the same remaining support time from today. Samsung’s stated commitments do not establish an exact end-of-support date for either model.

What stays broadly similar?
Camera resolution is close on paper
Samsung lists the same rear-camera resolution layout for both: a 50 MP wide camera, 12 MP ultrawide and 5 MP macro, plus a 12 MP front camera. Samsung promotes A57 image processing and AI capabilities, but matching megapixel counts do not prove identical image quality, and the available sources do not establish a controlled head-to-head camera result. If camera performance is your deciding factor, compare actual photos or independent tests for the conditions you care about rather than buying on resolution alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBoth have a 5,000 mAh typical battery
Samsung lists a typical 5,000 mAh battery for each phone. That shared capacity does not establish equal real-world battery life: usage, network conditions, display settings and software all affect endurance, and no controlled head-to-head battery test is established here. Charging claims also differ: Samsung advertises up to 60% in 30 minutes for the A57, while its A56 page lists 45 W charging. Those figures do not promise a particular full-charge time.

The display headline specifications are similar
Samsung describes the A57 panel as a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Plus display. Android Central’s comparison reports similar headline size, resolution and refresh-rate figures for both models. The available sources do not establish a measured brightness or color advantage for either phone.
Which phone should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy A57 if
- You are buying new and the A57’s current local price is close enough to the A56 to justify the premium.
- You value the lighter, thinner design or want the higher IP68 rating.
- You will benefit from Wi‑Fi 6E or Samsung’s newer One UI and AI features.
- You want the newer model’s later support timeline, while recognizing Samsung states commitments rather than an exact end date.
Choose the Galaxy A56 if
- It is materially cheaper where you live and its shared display, camera-resolution layout and battery capacity meet your needs.
- You do not need the A57’s specific durability, weight, Wi‑Fi or software changes.
- You would rather put the price difference toward another need than pay for refinements you will not use.
Keep your Galaxy A56 if you already own one
If your A56 works well, its listed camera resolutions and typical battery capacity alone do not make a compelling upgrade case. Move to the A57 if the lower weight, IP68 rating, Wi‑Fi 6E or newer features solve a need you actually have; otherwise, keeping the A56 is the more sensible choice.

Check prices and the exact version before buying
Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement set the unlocked Galaxy A57 5G starting price at $549.99, with U.S. availability beginning April 9, 2026. That is a dated launch price, not a statement of today’s retailer price. Current prices, promotions, stock, storage configurations, taxes and availability vary by market and were not established in the cited sources. Compare the same storage capacity and buying conditions in your country before deciding whether the gap is modest or substantial.
