The Samsung Galaxy A57 5G is a polished midrange phone with an uneven camera system: its main camera can take appealing photos, but reviewers found the ultrawide and macro less dependable, especially when light is poor. That makes “poor cameras” a fair shorthand for the system’s limits—not a claim that every photo from the A57 is bad.
What the Galaxy A57’s camera review comes down to
Reviewers differ in how harshly they judge the A57, but their findings point to the same buying distinction: the main camera is stronger than the secondary lenses, and results depend on the scene.

- TechRadar: Its reviewer found muted color, limited detail and weak dynamic range in conditions short of bright sunshine or studio light, and judged the image processing insufficient for consistently good-looking pictures. Read TechRadar’s Galaxy A57 review.
- Android Authority: Its reviewer found the main camera capable of detailed, punchy images in bright scenes and usable results in low light. The ultrawide, by contrast, became soft and noisy in poorer light; the macro camera lacks autofocus, and switching lenses could lag. Read Android Authority’s review.
- Tom’s Guide: Its review describes the cameras as respectable for the phone’s price, but not a match for leading camera phones. In its comparison with the Nothing Phone 4a Pro, the rival’s dedicated telephoto lens delivered better zoomed-in shots. Read Tom’s Guide’s review.
These are reviewers’ hands-on judgments, not a universal lab score. The practical takeaway is to judge the A57 by the camera you expect to use: the main camera is the safer bet, while the ultrawide and macro make the system less consistent.
What cameras does the Galaxy A57 have?
Samsung lists three rear cameras: a 50MP wide camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro. The front camera is 12MP with Super HDR. Megapixel counts describe resolution, not how reliably a camera handles color, detail or dim light.

How to decide if the cameras are good enough for you
For everyday photos
If most of your pictures are taken with the main camera in bright outdoor light, Android Authority’s more positive assessment may be the most relevant: its reviewer found detailed, punchy results in bright scenes and usable main-camera photos in low light. TechRadar’s more critical evaluation is a reason to be cautious if accurate color, fine detail and dependable results across ordinary lighting conditions matter to you.

For group shots, landscapes and dim interiors
The ultrawide is the clearer weakness in the reviews. Android Authority found it soft and noisy in poorer light, while TechRadar criticized the system’s color and detail outside ideal lighting. If you often use an ultrawide for indoor gatherings or night scenes, do not assume it will match the main camera.
For close-ups and zoom
The 5MP macro camera lacks autofocus, according to Android Authority, so close-up results may demand more care than a camera that can focus automatically. The listed rear setup has no dedicated telephoto camera. Tom’s Guide’s comparison found better zoomed-in shots from the Nothing Phone 4a Pro’s telephoto lens; treat that as the result of that publication’s comparison, rather than a universal ranking.

The IP68 rating is based on submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes; Samsung cautions that water resistance can diminish with wear and does not recommend beach or pool use. These are manufacturer specifications and conditions, not independent performance findings. Samsung’s support terms, IP68 conditions and battery listing are on its UK product page.
