Choose the Galaxy S24 FE if you want materially faster performance, a useful telephoto camera, a brighter display, wireless charging, DeX, Galaxy AI and Samsung’s longer update commitment. Choose the Galaxy A55 5G when it is substantially cheaper, you need microSD expansion, or your priority is dependable everyday use and a 5,000mAh battery.
This is not a same-tier comparison: the A55 is a mid-range A-series phone, while the S24 FE brings several lower-priced S-series features. In the United States, the A55 was not officially sold, so an imported unit must pass carrier, warranty and return-policy checks before its lower price is considered a bargain.

The five differences that matter most
1. Performance and gaming
The S24 FE’s Exynos 2400e is in a different class from the A55’s Exynos 1480. PhoneArena lists approximately 2,153 versus 1,163 in Geekbench 6 single-core and 6,631 versus 3,487 multi-core, respectively. These are outlet-specific results, not guarantees: firmware, temperature, battery level, performance mode and benchmark version can change scores.

In practice, both phones handle messaging, streaming and social apps. The S24 FE is much more comfortable with heavy multitasking, demanding games, emulation, video editing and sustained graphics workloads, with substantially more long-term headroom. Tom’s Guide independently recorded about 2,161 single-core and 6,386 multi-core for the S24 FE using its own test setup (review). Choose the A55 for light use, not for maximum gaming performance.
2. Camera system and zoom
Both have a 50MP stabilized main camera and a 12MP ultrawide, so favorable daylight scenes can look broadly similar. The S24 FE adds Samsung’s ProVisual Engine and a real 8MP, 3× optical telephoto with OIS. The A55’s third camera is a 5MP macro unit, leaving it dependent on digital cropping for distant subjects.
That telephoto matters for children, pets, travel details, signs and concerts. The S24 FE also offers substantially more video flexibility: comparison specifications list up to 8K/30, 4K/120 and 1080p/240, plus 4K/60 from the front camera. The A55 is listed at up to 4K/30. Samsung processing can differ in color, sharpening, exposure and skin tones, so do not claim that the S24 FE wins every still image. Likewise, the A55’s 32MP selfie sensor does not automatically beat the S24 FE’s 10MP sensor; autofocus, dynamic range, stabilization and video are more useful measures.

3. Display brightness and outdoor readability
The S24 FE uses a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with adaptive 60/120Hz refresh, Vision Booster and a Samsung-rated peak of 1,900 nits. The A55’s 6.6-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED is sharp at 2400×1080, but comparison coverage places its outdoor brightness below the S24 FE. The A55’s extra pixels do not create a meaningful sharpness advantage in normal use; the S24 FE’s benefits are brightness, HDR presentation, adaptive refresh behavior and slimmer bezels. A 1,900-nit figure is a peak condition, not sustained full-screen brightness.
4. Wireless charging, DeX and premium extras
The A55 charges only over a cable. The S24 FE supports 15W wireless charging, Wireless PowerShare and Samsung DeX, which can turn a compatible monitor or television into a desktop-style workspace. It also has Wi-Fi 6E rather than Wi-Fi 6. Samsung’s 25W power adapter may be sold separately, so include a compatible USB-C charger in the ownership cost.
5. Software support and Galaxy AI
The S24 FE launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. Samsung states seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates, a major advantage if you keep phones for many years. It is advertised with Galaxy AI features including Circle to Search, Live Translate, Interpreter, Browsing Assist, Photo Assist, Portrait Studio and Instant Slow-Mo-related tools.

The A55 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 and is reported to receive four major Android upgrades and five years of security patches. It does not receive the same full S24-series Galaxy AI package. Features can change with updates and may depend on region, language, account, age and Samsung service availability; check current firmware in your market before relying on a specific menu or AI function.
Battery life and charging
The A55 has a 5,000mAh battery versus 4,700mAh in the S24 FE, and both support 25W wired charging. The capacity advantage can help the A55 in light-use patterns, but battery size alone does not determine endurance. PhoneArena gives the A55 a small overall battery-test advantage while listing a gaming advantage for the S24 FE. Android Authority reported more than nine hours of screen-on time and roughly a day and a half for its A55 usage pattern; Tom’s Guide recorded 11 hours 25 minutes for the S24 FE in its battery-drain test. Those workloads and methods are not directly comparable.

Build quality, storage and connectivity
The S24 FE combines an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back, and an IP68 rating. The A55 has a glass back, plastic frame and IP67 rating. Neither should be intentionally submerged: laboratory IP ratings can be compromised by drops, repairs and wear, and do not guarantee protection from liquid damage.
The A55’s microSDXC slot is its most important practical advantage. It lets you add inexpensive storage to a 128GB model for photos, video and offline media. The S24 FE has no microSD slot, although some markets offer 512GB storage. Neither phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Exact 5G bands, SIM configurations and eSIM behavior depend on the regional model.

The S24 FE was officially sold through Samsung US, whose page showed a starting price of $649.99 when checked for this comparison. That is a dated MSRP reference, not a claim about the phone’s current 2026 sale price. Compare today’s street price, storage, warranty and any charger cost rather than relying on launch pricing.
Which phone should you buy?
Buy the Galaxy S24 FE if you:
- Play demanding games, emulate consoles or edit video.
- Want optical zoom, better video controls and stronger processing headroom.
- Need a brighter outdoor display, wireless charging or DeX.
- Plan to keep the phone for many years and value seven-year support.
- Are buying in the US and want official carrier and warranty support.
Buy the Galaxy A55 5G if you:
- Find it at a substantially lower price in a market where it is officially supported.
- Need microSD expansion or prefer a 5,000mAh battery.
- Mainly message, browse, stream and use social apps.
- Do not need telephoto zoom, DeX, wireless charging or flagship gaming performance.
Price-gap rule for the better value
Use the actual price difference, storage and support terms rather than a universal “best” label:
| How much cheaper is the A55? | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Less than $100 | Buy the S24 FE; its performance, camera, support and features justify the small gap. |
| $100–$200 | Choose based on gaming, zoom photography, microSD needs, storage and warranty. |
| More than $200 | The A55 can be the better value for ordinary users, provided the regional model is compatible and supported. |
| Imported A55 in the US | Require an even larger discount to offset carrier, warranty, return and resale risks. |
Bottom line: The Galaxy S24 FE is substantially better, not merely a slightly upgraded A55. The Galaxy A55 5G becomes the smarter purchase only when its lower price and expandable storage outweigh the S24 FE’s faster platform, telephoto camera, brighter display, wireless charging, DeX, durability and much longer software-support promise.
