On a new Samsung Galaxy A37, start with the setup wizard, then review Display, Battery, Security and Privacy. After those priorities, check notifications, sound, storage, app permissions, backup or sync, and device-location controls. These are reviews rather than universal “best” settings: the right choice depends on how you use the phone, and some controls may not appear on every regional or carrier build.
Samsung’s setup guidance covers language, Wi-Fi, Samsung and Google accounts, and lock-screen features. It also says the sequence can differ when you transfer data with Smart Switch instead of setting up manually. The current A37 manual listing is for Android 16, version 1.0, with regional listings dated March 26–27, 2026, so use the labels shown on your own phone.

1. Finish setup deliberately before changing individual options
The first boot is not just a sign-in screen. Samsung’s setup wizard can establish the accounts, network connection and lock-screen choices that later settings depend on. Follow the prompts in order, but read each choice instead of accepting every default.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Choose language and region. Region affects available services, legal notices, keyboard defaults and sometimes feature availability.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. A stable connection makes system updates, app restoration and account verification less error-prone than relying on mobile data.
- Sign in to your Samsung and Google accounts. Use the accounts you actually intend to keep. They can be used for app installation, synchronization, recovery and device-location features.
- Decide whether to transfer data. Smart Switch may change the sequence and restore apps or settings; a manual setup gives you a cleaner opportunity to choose what returns to the phone.
- Configure a screen lock. Select the strongest method you can use consistently, then review biometric and lock-screen notification options after setup.
Samsung documents this setup flow in its Galaxy A37 5G setup and transfer guide. If a prompt is skipped, search Settings for the corresponding category rather than assuming it was enabled.

2. Confirm the software version and available menus
Before following an online path word for word, open Settings and check the phone’s software information, then install any offered system update. Menu names and feature availability can differ by country, carrier, model and One UI version. Samsung’s regional A37 page lists an Android 16 user manual, version 1.0, dated March 27, 2026, while its Mexico support page lists an English Android 16 manual dated March 26, 2026 (regional manual listing; Mexico support listing).
Use the Settings search field when a label is missing. A control described in a guide may be renamed, moved under another heading or unavailable on a carrier build. Samsung also notes that some intelligence features require a Samsung account, so account status can explain why a switch is absent.
3. Set up the display for your eyes and routine
Display settings affect comfort every time you use the A37. Open Settings > Display (the exact path can vary) and inspect the controls your build provides.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Brightness and automatic adjustment
Choose automatic or manual brightness according to your surroundings. Automatic adjustment is convenient when lighting changes; manual control is predictable if you work in a fixed environment. Check the result indoors and outdoors rather than judging from the setup room alone.
Screen timeout and lock behavior
A short timeout reduces the chance of an unattended screen remaining visible, while a longer timeout helps when reading recipes, maps or documents. Set a value that fits your routine, then verify that the screen actually locks when you expect it to.
Color, size and accessibility
Review screen mode, font size, screen zoom, high-contrast options and any eye-comfort control shown on your phone. Larger text can improve readability but may reduce how much content fits on a page. Color or comfort filters can help some users and look wrong to others; preview them under both bright and dim conditions.
Dark theme and motion preferences
If your software offers a dark theme, schedule or enable it for the times you prefer. Also inspect animation or motion settings if you are sensitive to movement. These are usability choices, not guaranteed battery or performance fixes.

4. Review battery and charging controls without chasing promises
Samsung identifies battery care as a customization area, but no single switch is universally best. Open the battery section in Settings and record the current charging, power-saving and usage options before changing them.
Charging protection
If a battery-protection or charging-limit option is present, compare its limit with your routine. A lower limit can mean less time at a full charge, while charging to 100 percent gives the greatest immediate capacity. Pick the behavior that matches whether the phone spends most of the day near a charger or away from one.
Power-saving modes
Read what each mode changes before enabling it. Depending on the build, power saving can affect background activity, performance, display behavior or synchronization. Use it as a deliberate trade-off when you need longer operation, not as a permanent guarantee of a particular battery-life increase.
App battery usage
Look at the usage list after the phone has completed setup and restoration. An app that is busy during the first hours may simply be indexing or downloading. Restrict background activity only when you understand the consequence, because messaging, wearable or backup apps may stop updating promptly.

5. Secure the lock screen, accounts and private data
Security settings are most valuable when they are configured before you store personal information. In Settings > Security and privacy (or the equivalent headings), work through the controls that exist on your software build.
Use a dependable screen lock
A long PIN or password offers a different balance of strength and convenience from a pattern. Biometrics can speed up unlocking, but keep a memorized fallback because the phone periodically requires it and may require it after a restart or security event. Test the lock while the phone is in your hand before relying on it.
Control what appears while locked
Review lock-screen notification visibility. Showing full content is convenient; hiding details prevents someone who can see the locked display from reading messages. Choose per your work, family and travel context.

Audit app permissions
Open the permissions manager and inspect camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos and files. Grant access when the app’s function needs it, select a limited or one-time option when offered, and remove access that no longer makes sense. Recheck permissions after restoring a large app set.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsConsider Secure Folder
Samsung lists Secure Folder among its customization and help topics. If it is available on your A37 build, it can separate selected apps and files behind an additional protected area. Decide what belongs there before moving data, and make sure you understand how its recovery and backup behavior works.
6. Make notifications and sound fit your day
Notification and sound controls are easy to overlook during setup, yet they determine whether the phone interrupts you constantly or silently misses important events.
Notification categories
After installing your essential apps, open notification settings and review them by app or category. Keep alerts that represent messages, calls, payments or safety events; turn off promotional categories you do not need. If an app offers silent delivery, use it for low-priority updates instead of blocking everything.
Lock-screen and pop-up behavior
Choose whether notifications appear on the lock screen, as banners, or only in the notification shade. A private lock screen and a visible banner solve different problems, so test with a real message before settling on a layout.
Recommended Free Tools
Volume, vibration and Do Not Disturb
Set media, ringtone, alarm and notification volumes independently where available. Configure vibration strength and Do Not Disturb schedules around work, sleep or meetings. Add exceptions for contacts or repeat callers only if you actually need them.
7. Clean up apps and permissions after restoration
Restoring an old phone can bring back apps you no longer use. Open the Apps area, sort through recently installed or unused items, and remove anything you do not recognize. For retained apps, check default handlers for links, calls, browsers and file types so the phone uses the app you expect.
Review installation permissions and special access pages carefully. An app that can appear over other apps, access accessibility services or install unknown packages has more reach than a normal app. Leave such access off unless you understand the feature that requires it. App menus vary substantially by One UI release, so use Settings search if a named page is not visible.

8. Check storage and file handling before space runs out
Samsung’s support material includes file and storage management as a customization topic. Open storage settings and identify what occupies space: applications, photos and videos, downloads, cached files or system data.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Delete duplicate downloads and abandoned installation files.
- Review large videos before enabling automatic media downloads in messaging apps.
- Keep enough free space for updates and temporary files; do not treat every cached item as a problem.
- Use the file manager to confirm where important documents are stored before deleting an app.
Storage totals and available cleanup tools can differ by model and software version. If a suggested cleanup button is absent, inspect categories manually rather than installing an unfamiliar “cleaner.”
9. Decide what should sync or back up
Samsung lists Samsung Cloud synchronization and backup-related help among its A-series customization topics. Open the account and backup sections and decide which data you want copied to a cloud service, synchronized between devices or kept only locally.
Synchronization is not identical to an independent backup: a deletion or change can propagate to other synchronized locations. For irreplaceable photos and documents, keep a second copy in a location you control. Confirm the last successful backup or sync time, the account receiving it and whether mobile data is allowed. If you transferred data with Smart Switch, verify that the new phone contains the items you expected instead of assuming every category moved.
10. Prepare device-location and recovery features
Samsung’s setup guidance points readers toward locating a misplaced phone. Review the device-location controls available under security, privacy, accounts or location settings, and sign in to the account associated with the recovery service.
Decide whether location should be enabled continuously or only while using selected apps. Continuous location is useful for maps, automation and recovery features but reveals more location information to enabled services. Check that the phone can connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data, has a screen lock and is associated with the correct account; those prerequisites matter when the handset is not in your hand.
11. A goal-based order for your first review
| User goal | Settings area to inspect | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Comfortable reading | Display brightness, timeout, text size and color controls | Readability versus screen space and convenience |
| Predictable charging | Battery protection, power saving and app usage | Immediate capacity and performance versus tighter background limits |
| Private lock screen | Screen lock, biometrics and notification visibility | Faster access versus less information exposed while locked |
| Fewer interruptions | Notification categories, sound and Do Not Disturb | Quiet time versus the risk of silencing an important alert |
| Recoverable data | Samsung or Google account sync, backup and device location | Convenience and recovery versus account and location data sharing |
| More free space | Storage categories, downloads and unused apps | Immediate capacity versus deleting files you may later need |
12. What to do when a setting is missing
Do not assume a missing switch means the phone is faulty. First search Settings using a shorter keyword, such as “lock,” “battery,” “notification” or “location.” Then check the installed One UI and Android version, carrier restrictions and regional manual. Samsung explicitly warns that availability varies by region, operating-system version, model and carrier.
If a control disappeared after an update, restart the phone and search again; the category may have moved. For account-dependent features, verify that the intended Samsung or Google account is signed in. When the manual and the handset disagree, follow the handset’s current labels and use the regional support page for that exact model.
Use the A37 as your phone, not someone else’s preset
The most useful first changes are the ones that match your priorities: a display you can read, a lock screen you trust, notifications you can live with, and recovery options you have tested. Samsung’s own guidance covers these areas, but it does not make one configuration correct for every owner. Revisit the choices after a week of normal use, when you have real notification, battery, storage and location patterns to evaluate.
