First check whether the timing explains the drain

Samsung’s guidance says this activity can temporarily increase battery use. Let setup finish, keep the phone updated, and then reassess the same type of day. Do not ignore an app that remains conspicuously high in Battery usage, however; setup activity and a misbehaving downloaded app can occur at the same time.
A sudden change is more useful than a single percentage
There is no published A37-specific drain-per-hour threshold that proves a defective battery. Compare the phone with its own recent behavior: note the charge level, screen-on time, mobile-network conditions and apps in use, then check again after several hours. A repeatable change after installing one app, entering a weak-signal area or enabling a demanding feature is more informative than one unusually busy afternoon.

1. Install every available update
Samsung’s battery guidance begins with software updates because the phone, system components and apps all affect power management.
- Open Settings > Software update and choose Download and install (the wording can vary by market, carrier and software build).
- Install the update offered for your own model and region, then restart if requested.
- Open the store used for your Galaxy apps and install pending app updates.
- Use the phone normally for a day and check Battery usage again rather than judging the result immediately after the update.
For context, Samsung’s firmware notice for the SM-A376E lists Android 16 build A376EXXS5AZH4, released September 8, 2026, with the August 5, 2026 security patch. That is a regional example, not a universal A37 update: other model numbers, countries and service providers can receive different builds or dates. Install the update your own device offers instead of trying to match this build manually.
2. Find the app or service that is consuming the charge
The battery-use screen is the most useful first diagnostic because it shows whether the drain is concentrated in an app or spread across radio, display and system activity.

- Open Battery usage (sometimes shown as View details) and inspect the period covering the unusual drain.
- Look for a downloaded app with unusually high foreground or background use, especially one installed or updated just before the problem began.
- Update that app first. If its use remains abnormal, temporarily restrict it or uninstall it, then observe whether the pattern changes.
Do not remove an app solely because it appears in the list: a video, navigation or camera session can legitimately use substantial power. The useful clue is disproportionate use compared with what you actually did, or persistent background activity while the app was not open.
3. Run Device Care optimization
Samsung’s Device Care optimizer can identify excessive battery use and close selected background processes. On recent Galaxy software, open Settings > Device care or Settings > Battery and device care, then tap Optimize now. Menu names and the items reported can differ by software version.
Read the results rather than treating optimization as a cure by itself. If it identifies an app, return to Battery usage and decide whether that app should be updated, restricted or removed. Optimization may close background apps temporarily; it cannot repair a worn battery or compensate for a persistently weak mobile signal.
4. Limit background activity selectively
Samsung lets you place unused apps into sleeping lists and put selected apps into deep sleep. These controls can reduce background work, but they change behavior:

- Sleeping apps: the system may limit background activity when an app is not in use.
- Deep-sleeping apps: the app generally runs only when you open it. Background syncing and timely notifications can therefore be delayed.
Use these controls for infrequently used games, shopping apps or utilities that show unexplained background use. Avoid deep-sleeping messaging, accessibility, health, security or work apps that need to receive events while closed. Add one plausible offender at a time, then check whether the battery pattern improves; changing many apps at once makes the result difficult to interpret. You can remove an app from a sleeping list if its notifications or synchronization become unreliable.

5. Test the mobile network, especially 5G and weak coverage
Samsung states that 5G can drain the battery faster. A phone in weak or unstable coverage may also use more power as it searches for or maintains a connection. This is a network-condition issue, not necessarily a battery fault.
- Compare battery use for similar periods in a location with stronger, stable coverage.
- If your carrier and software expose a preferred-network setting, select LTE temporarily and compare results. This is a diagnostic test; it may reduce peak data speeds and is not available on every variant.
- When traveling through poor coverage, note the signal condition in the Battery usage context rather than blaming the last app you opened.
Samsung’s support pages explain that menus and screenshots vary by model and software version. If the phone drains much faster only in a particular building, basement or rural area, report the location and signal behavior to the carrier as well as checking the handset.
6. Check screen settings without chasing a promised percentage
The display can be a large part of daily use when brightness is high or the screen stays awake for long periods. As a low-risk comparison, reduce brightness, shorten screen timeout and avoid leaving the display on while not needed. Record the change in Battery usage and screen-on time rather than expecting a fixed percentage saving; Samsung does not provide a universal A37 improvement figure because viewing conditions and usage differ.

Run this test separately from an app or network change. If you alter brightness, enable power saving and deep-sleep several apps at once, you will not know which action affected endurance.
7. Use Safe mode to isolate downloaded apps
Safe mode disables downloaded apps while leaving the core phone software available. It is a controlled way to ask whether an installed app is contributing to the drain; it is not a battery-health test.
- Open the power menu, then press and hold Power off until the Safe mode option appears. Confirm it. The exact gesture can vary by Galaxy build.
- Use the phone for a comparable period. Calls, basic settings and Samsung system functions remain available, while downloaded apps are disabled.
- If the drain improves substantially, restart normally and remove or update recently installed apps one at a time. Start with apps that ranked high in Battery usage.
- If the drain is unchanged, the cause may be network conditions, system software, display use or battery condition. Exit Safe mode by restarting normally.
Improvement in Safe mode is evidence that a downloaded app is involved, not proof of which app or proof that the battery hardware is healthy. Conversely, unchanged drain does not identify a single alternative cause; it only makes downloaded apps less likely.
8. Use power-saving controls as a temporary test
Power-saving modes can reduce background activity and other power use when you need to reach an outlet. They are useful for short-term endurance, but restrictions may affect synchronization, notifications, performance or display behavior. Treat the mode as a comparison and emergency measure, not as a repair. If the phone lasts acceptably only with aggressive restrictions, continue investigating Battery usage and network conditions.

What the A37 battery specification does—and does not—tell you
Samsung lists the Galaxy A37 5G battery as 5,000 mAh typical and 4,905 mAh rated minimum. The typical figure is an estimated average based on battery samples tested under IEC 61960; the rated-minimum figure is the lower guaranteed capacity used in the specification. Samsung also advertises up to 29 hours of video playback under its stated measurement conditions.

“Up to 29 hours” is a manufacturer test result, not a promise of 29 hours of mixed use, screen-on time, gaming or mobile-data use. Your result changes with brightness, applications, network conditions, wireless connections and usage patterns. Capacity also declines with repeated charging and discharging. Samsung Ireland describes the battery as a consumable component whose reduced capacity cannot be restored.
Because the A37 battery is non-removable, do not follow instructions intended for swapping a removable pack or attempt an improvised replacement. A USB-C power bank can provide extra runtime away from an outlet, but it does not correct the cause of rapid drain and should be considered a convenience while troubleshooting.
Which fix should you try first?
Choose based on the information you need. Updates, Battery usage and a change of location are low-disruption checks that preserve normal notifications. Device Care is a quick cleanup step, but its suggestions should still be reviewed. Sleeping or deep-sleeping an app can be effective when its background activity is obvious, yet it has a greater effect on syncing. Safe mode gives the clearest app-versus-system comparison, although downloaded apps cannot be used while it is active. Power saving is best when you need temporary runtime rather than a diagnosis. Samsung Ireland points users to Samsung Members diagnostics, which can provide a device-specific battery assessment. Support menus and diagnostic availability vary by country and carrier.
Have the following information ready:
- Exact model number and region or carrier.
- Android and security-patch versions shown under About phone.
- When the drain began and whether the phone was recently set up or restored.
- Battery-usage screenshots showing the relevant period.
- Whether the pattern changes in strong coverage, on LTE, or in Safe mode.
- Apps installed or updated immediately before the change.
Samsung’s general guidance does not define a universal percentage-per-hour failure threshold for the A37. A support or Members diagnostic result is therefore more reliable than comparing your phone with an arbitrary online number.
