Which phone has the larger battery?
Xiaomi India lists an 8,000mAh typical battery for the REDMI Note 17 5G, compared with Samsung’s 5,000mAh typical rating for the Galaxy A36 5G. Both manufacturers list 45W wired charging support. The capacity figures describe rated battery size, not measured screen-on time or a direct battery-life test; usage, network conditions, display settings and software can affect runtime.
Do not assume the REDMI’s India capacity applies everywhere. Xiaomi Colombia lists a 7,700mAh typical battery for its regional model. These are separate market-specific specifications, not one universal figure.

How do the displays and cameras compare?
Display
Samsung specifies the A36’s screen as a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Xiaomi’s India specifications list an AMOLED display at 2396 × 1080 and up to 120Hz, but do not state its diagonal there. Xiaomi Colombia lists a 6.99-inch display for its version; that regional figure should not be attributed to every market.
Cameras
The A36 has three listed rear cameras: a 50MP main, 8MP ultrawide and 5MP macro. Xiaomi India lists a 50MP main camera and rear video recording up to 1080p at 30fps. Samsung lists a 12MP front camera, while Xiaomi India lists 8MP. Xiaomi Colombia instead specifies a 16MP front camera, another reason to check the local model rather than treating regional listings as interchangeable.
These hardware specifications alone do not establish which phone takes better photos or video. No independent comparative camera test is available in the cited material.

How do software support and protection differ?
Samsung lists Android 15 and One UI 7 for the Galaxy A36 5G and promises up to six generations of Android OS upgrades plus six years of security updates in India. Xiaomi lists HyperOS 3 for the REDMI Note 17 5G, with four OS upgrades and six years of security updates. These are manufacturer commitments; confirm the terms for the exact country and variant you plan to buy.
Samsung specifies IP67 for the A36. Xiaomi’s cited India specification page does not state a protection rating. Xiaomi Colombia lists IP65 for its regional version, which should not be used as proof of the India model’s rating. An IP rating is a test classification, not a guarantee against damage in every exposure or over time.

Do REDMI Note 17 5G specifications vary by region?
Yes. Xiaomi’s official India page lists an 8,000mAh typical battery and 8MP front camera, while its Colombia page lists 7,700mAh, a 16MP front camera and IP65. Xiaomi also notes that connectivity and package contents can vary. Do not combine these regional specifications into a single assumed global configuration.
Xiaomi India says the package includes a 45W charger, case and pre-applied screen protector, but cautions that contents can vary by region and packaging version. Check the box details for your market before buying accessories. For a purchase outside India, verify the local SKU, 5G bands, warranty, included items, software terms and local price.
Quick Recap
Which phone should you choose?
- Consider the Galaxy A36 5G if the documented IP67 rating, 6.7-inch 120Hz display, three-camera rear setup or Samsung’s stated six-generation OS and six-year security commitment matter most to you.
- Consider the REDMI Note 17 5G if the India-listed 8,000mAh typical battery and its displayed starting price appeal to you, after confirming the price and exact local configuration.
- Do not choose on chipset names or megapixels alone. The cited official specifications do not establish comparative gaming speed, camera quality or real-world battery life.
