The Samsung Galaxy A35 5G and Galaxy A17 are not always like-for-like phones: Samsung sells an A17 5G in the UK, while its El Salvador store lists an A17 LTE model. For the UK 5G models, the A35 has a faster listed display refresh rate and a different rear-camera setup; the A17 has a slightly larger screen and a clearly stated six-year security-support commitment. There is no reliable universal price difference: compare the exact network variant and configuration sold in your country.
First, identify which Galaxy A17 you mean
“Galaxy A17” is not enough to establish connectivity or price. Samsung’s UK product page covers the Galaxy A17 5G, while Samsung El Salvador’s store lists a Galaxy A17 LTE with 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. Those are different network variants, so a price comparison between them and the A35 5G is not an A35 5G versus A17 5G comparison.

Which display is better: larger or smoother?
The A17 5G has the larger listed screen at 6.7 inches, compared with 6.6 inches on the A35 5G. Both are listed as FHD+ Super AMOLED. The A35 5G’s stated maximum refresh rate is higher—up to 120 Hz versus up to 90 Hz on the A17 5G—which may make supported motion appear smoother. The choice is between a marginally larger display and the higher refresh-rate specification, not a difference in the listed display type.
Do the camera specifications make one phone the winner?
Both UK-listed 5G models have a 50 MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). The A35 5G adds 8 MP and 5 MP rear cameras, while the A17 5G lists 5 MP and 2 MP secondary cameras. Those figures describe camera hardware; megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos. A confident photo-quality verdict requires a reliable direct comparison under comparable conditions.

How do their water and screen protections differ?
Samsung rates the A35 5G IPX4/IP67 under IEC 60529. In Samsung’s description, the ratings are based on controlled lab conditions; resistance may diminish over time, and Samsung does not advise beach or pool use. An IP rating is not a promise that a phone is waterproof.
The UK A17 5G listing specifies IP54 splash protection and Gorilla Glass Victus for scratch defense. IP54 and IP67 are different ratings, and Samsung’s listed glass protection is a separate feature from water and dust resistance. Consider the stated limitations and use a compatible case or screen protector if you need additional protection.

What is the price difference?
A single Samsung El Salvador store snapshot displays the 256 GB Galaxy A35 5G at US$279 and the 8 GB/256 GB Galaxy A17 LTE at US$270. These are local listing prices for different connectivity variants, not a universal price gap and not a 5G-to-5G comparison. The snapshot does not establish current prices in other countries.
For a useful comparison, check the same retailer or manufacturer store in your market and match network variant, memory and storage. Prices and availability can change; do not use the El Salvador figures to predict what either phone costs where you live.

Which one should you choose?
- Consider the A35 5G if you prefer its listed up-to-120 Hz refresh rate or want the specific IPX4/IP67 rating Samsung states for this model.
- Consider the A17 5G if you prefer a slightly larger listed screen or value Samsung UK’s explicit statement of six OS upgrades and six years of security support.
- Compare local listings before deciding if price is the deciding factor. Make sure the A17 is the 4G/LTE or 5G version you intend to buy, and compare equivalent memory and storage.
- Choose on camera results only after a direct comparison. The listed camera resolutions and OIS do not establish an overall photo-quality winner.
Samsung UK’s A17 5G page states the six-upgrade, six-year support commitment; the A35 page consulted here does not provide a comparable policy statement. That absence is not proof that the A35 receives less support. Check the relevant official policy for the A35 variant sold in your market before comparing update longevity.
