Those are useful everyday features, but whether it is a good buy in 2026 depends on its price where you live, the exact regional model and how much of its software-support period remains.
This assessment draws on Samsung’s specifications and launch information, plus launch-era reviews from Android Authority, GSMArena and WIRED; it is not a hands-on test. The A35 launched in 2024, so its original price and initial software are historical context, not a guide to today’s value or installed version.

What the Galaxy A35 5G offers
Samsung positions the Galaxy A35 5G as a midrange Android phone. Its combination of a high-refresh AMOLED screen, water-and-dust resistance, expandable storage and a multi-year update commitment gives it a more rounded feature set than a spec sheet focused only on processor speed would suggest. But size, charging cost, performance under demanding workloads and remaining support all matter when judging one now.

Display and design: a strength, if you want a big phone
The 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel can refresh at up to 120 Hz. A higher refresh rate can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother than on a conventional 60 Hz screen; it does not mean every app or video runs at 120 frames per second. Android Authority singled out the display as a standout for the phone’s price class.
The body is relatively large and weighs 209 g in Samsung’s US launch specification. That may suit readers who prefer a roomy screen, but it is a meaningful trade-off for one-handed use or carrying a lighter phone. Samsung’s UK listing specifies IP67 protection, and Android Authority treated that protection as another differentiator in this class. Water resistance is not a reason to deliberately expose a phone to water, and the exact protection claim should be checked against the model sold in your market.

Cameras: useful coverage, with the main camera doing the important work
The US configuration has a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), an 8 MP ultra-wide camera, a 5 MP macro camera and a 13 MP front camera, according to Samsung’s launch announcement. OIS helps steady the main camera against hand movement, but it cannot guarantee sharp photos in every lighting or motion condition.

The three rear cameras serve different purposes: the main camera is the everyday option, the ultra-wide fits more of a scene into the frame, and the macro camera is intended for close subjects. The listed megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality. Reviews are launch-era assessments rather than results from a current, controlled comparison: consult reviewer findings in context, particularly for low-light shots and moving subjects. Samsung’s US announcement describes the camera configuration, not a guarantee of a particular photographic result.

Performance, battery and charging
The A35’s suitability depends on workload. Routine use and demanding gaming are different tests: the launch-era reviews discuss performance in their own review conditions, but those observations should not be treated as a universal benchmark for every game, software build or regional variant. If gaming or other heavy tasks are a priority, compare current device-specific tests for the exact model and price rather than inferring speed from the camera or display specifications.
Samsung gives the battery’s typical capacity as 5,000 mAh. Typical capacity is a laboratory-derived specification, not a promise of a set number of hours; screen brightness, signal strength, apps and usage affect runtime. GSMArena’s review verdict describes battery endurance as solid, a reviewer assessment rather than a guaranteed result for every owner.

- Display: 6.6” FHD+ Super AMOLED w/Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ - Resolution 1080 x 2340 pixels
- Memory: 128GB 8GB RAM - MicroSD up to 1TB
- Camera: Triple 50 MP + 8 MP + 5 MP w/ LED flash, panorama, HDR -- Selfie 13 MP
- Platform: OS, Android -- Chipset, Exynos 1380 -- CPU, Octa-core -- GPU, Mali-G68 MP5
- Battery: Li-Ion 5000 mAh, non-removable
Wired charging is rated up to 25 W. Samsung’s UK product page says, “The Wall Charger for Super Fast Charging (25W) sold separately.” GSMArena also flags the missing in-box charger. Budget for a compatible charger if you do not already own one; the maximum charging rate does not mean every USB-C adapter will deliver it.
Storage and everyday extras
MicroSD expansion is a practical advantage if you keep photos, videos or offline media on the phone. Samsung lists support for cards up to 1 TB on its UK specification page; the card is not included. Internal storage options shown by Samsung include 128 GB and 256 GB, with availability varying by market. Check whether the exact carrier or retailer model has the capacity and card support you need before buying.

WIRED notes that the phone does not have a headphone jack. If you use wired headphones, you will need a compatible USB-C solution or another audio connection method. GSMArena’s verdict also praises the stereo speakers, though that remains a reviewer’s qualitative assessment, not a measured guarantee about loudness or sound quality.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Software support: check the date for your market
Samsung’s launch-era support commitment was up to four generations of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates, as summarized by GSMArena and WIRED. “Up to” describes the announced policy, not a claim that every regional variant has already received every update. The A35 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 in Samsung’s US announcement; that is its launch software, not its current version.
Samsung UK’s product listing states that security updates are valid until 31 March 2028 for that listing and warns that policies can change. This date is market-specific and should not be assumed to apply identically to every SKU or country. Before purchase, verify the model’s support information on the relevant local Samsung page and consider how long you intend to keep the phone.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Samsung specifies a 6.6-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with refresh up to 120 Hz.
- The main rear camera includes OIS, alongside ultra-wide and macro cameras.
- A 5,000 mAh typical battery and up to 25 W wired charging are specified by Samsung.
- MicroSD expansion is listed up to 1 TB on Samsung UK’s product page.
- IP67 protection is listed by Samsung UK and highlighted by Android Authority as a feature for this price class.
- Samsung announced a multi-year OS and security-update policy at launch; WIRED identifies the update policy as a strength.
Cons and caveats
- At 209 g and 161.7 mm tall in the US launch specification, it is not a compact or especially light phone.
- The 25 W wall charger is sold separately on Samsung UK’s listing; GSMArena also notes that one is not included in the box.
- There is no headphone jack, according to WIRED.
- How well it handles gaming and how its cameras perform depend on workload, conditions and reviewer test methods.
- The remaining update period is not the same in every market; Samsung UK’s listed security date runs to 31 March 2028.
- Without a verified current local price, its value against newer phones cannot be established from its 2024 launch price.
Should you buy the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G?
Consider the A35 if you want a large AMOLED display, expandable storage, an OIS-equipped main camera and IP67 protection, and you find the exact regional model at a price that compares well with current alternatives. It is less compelling if you prioritize a compact, lightweight phone, need a charger in the box, rely on a headphone jack or expect top-tier gaming performance.
Price is decisive in 2026. Samsung announced a $399.99 US launch price in 2024, but that historical figure is not a current-market recommendation. Current street and refurbished prices, local availability and comparisons with phones selling at the same price have not been established here. Check live local listings, the device’s storage and region variant, and the support date before deciding. For the official launch-era support context, see Samsung Mobile Press on the A55 and A35.
