Which display is better for you?
The A16 5G gives you a 6.7-inch panel, just 0.1 inch larger than the A34 5G’s 6.6-inch display. Both are FHD+ Super AMOLED screens, but the A34 refreshes at up to 120Hz, versus 90Hz for the A16. A higher refresh rate can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother; it does not by itself establish overall screen quality or battery life.

Choose based on what matters more: the A16’s slightly larger viewing area or the A34’s faster refresh rate. The specifications do not establish differences in brightness, color accuracy, or viewing performance.

How do their cameras differ?
The A34 5G pairs a 48MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 5MP macro camera. Samsung’s UK A16 5G listing specifies a 50MP main camera without OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera; it also lists a 13MP front camera.
OIS helps steady the main camera against small movements, but these specifications do not prove which phone takes better photographs. Megapixel counts alone are not a sound basis for choosing: no independent side-by-side image test is established here.

Battery and charging: what is established?
Samsung specifies a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery for the A34 5G and a 5,000mAh battery for the A16 5G. Capacity figures do not determine real-world endurance, which also depends on use, settings, network conditions and battery condition.
Samsung says the A16 5G supports 25W Super Fast Charging; its UK product page says the 25W wall charger is sold separately. The cited A34 launch announcement does not establish its charging speed, so this comparison cannot say which charges faster.

Which phone has longer software support?
Samsung announced up to four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the A34 5G. For the A16 series, Samsung announced six generations of OS updates and six years of security updates. Those are manufacturer commitments, not a guarantee that every update arrives on the same date for every model or market.
Samsung’s update record for A16 model SM-A166B lists an Android 16 update with the August 5, 2026 security patch, released September 7, 2026. Rollout timing can vary by model, country and provider. The evidence cited here does not establish the A34’s current software version or how much of its support period remains for a particular used unit.

Protection and build details
Samsung UK lists the A16 5G as IP54 rated and cautions that resistance is not permanent; it does not advise using the phone at the beach or pool. The Samsung A34 launch source cited here does not state an IP rating, so it cannot support a like-for-like protection comparison.

Samsung announced a UK launch price of £199 for the A16 5G in November 2024. The Samsung UK buy page now marks its cited 128GB listing “No longer available.” Separately, a September 2026 offer for the A34 was listed at £164.99 as refurbished. These figures describe different dates, availability and conditions; subtracting one from the other would not produce a meaningful current price difference.

For a useful comparison, check listings in the same country with the same storage capacity, condition and seller type, and compare the final price including delivery. For a used or refurbished A34, check the exact regional model, battery condition, return policy and warranty before buying. Prices and stock can change.
Which one should you choose?
- Consider the Galaxy A34 5G if a 120Hz display and OIS on the main camera matter more to you, and you find a unit in acceptable condition at a price that makes sense.
- Consider the Galaxy A16 5G if you prefer the slightly larger screen and value Samsung’s longer stated update commitment. Check local availability and whether the charger is included.
Neither specification sheet settles overall speed, camera image quality or battery endurance. Those require comparable tests or firsthand evaluation, not conclusions drawn from a single component figure.
