Choose Samsung for sharper detail and AMOLED
The Galaxy A17 5G’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display has the higher resolution. It is the more suitable specification on paper if you value finer detail and an AMOLED panel.

Choose Redmi for a bigger, faster-refreshing screen
The Redmi 17 5G’s 6.9-inch LCD is larger and its 120Hz refresh rate is higher than the Samsung’s 90Hz. That makes it the specification-led pick if screen size and refresh rate matter more to you than resolution and panel type. The figures alone do not establish which display looks better in person.

Battery, charging and the box contents
On the India specifications, Redmi has the clear capacity advantage: Xiaomi lists a 7,900mAh typical battery and 45W charging, compared with Samsung’s 5,000mAh battery. Those capacities do not establish real-world battery life, which also depends on usage and conditions.
Check the exact regional package before purchase. Samsung’s India purchase information says the travel adapter is not included. Xiaomi’s Singapore specifications list 7,500mAh typical rather than India’s 7,900mAh, and direct buyers to local sellers about adapter availability. A Redmi specification or package detail from one country should not be assumed to apply in another.

Camera hardware: what the specifications do and do not show
Samsung lists three rear camera modules: a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 5MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro camera. Xiaomi describes the Redmi 17 5G as having a 50MP AI dual-camera system. Samsung therefore offers more varied published rear-camera hardware and explicitly highlights OIS, but those facts do not prove that it takes better photos. A fair image-quality verdict would require comparable photo samples.

Software support and durability
Samsung states that the Galaxy A17 5G receives six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates from its first global launch. Xiaomi India states four years of OS updates and six years of security updates for the Redmi 17 5G. On the published OS-upgrade commitments, Samsung’s is longer; the stated security-update period is the same.

For durability, Samsung lists IP54 and front Gorilla Glass Victus, while Xiaomi India lists IP64 and Gorilla Glass 7i. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that either phone is waterproof. Xiaomi’s Singapore page also cautions that network-band support varies by region and operator, and that NFC availability may vary across markets; confirm local compatibility for the version you intend to buy.

Prices observed in India do not produce a dependable like-for-like gap. The comparison page showed ₹22,478 for the Galaxy A17 5G and ₹23,999 for the Redmi 17 5G at Amazon. Samsung’s own India purchase page separately listed the A17 5G in a 6GB/128GB configuration at ₹26,999, against an MRP of ₹32,999. These are different listing contexts, and the Samsung official price identifies a specific configuration; the comparison-page figures should not be treated as guaranteed current prices or proof that either phone is generally cheaper.
