Both specify a 5,000 mAh battery, IP54 protection and microSD expansion up to 2 TB. Their announced prices come from different markets and dates, so they do not establish a current universal price difference.
Price difference: compare local listings, not launch prices
Samsung announced a UK launch price for the Galaxy A17 5G in August 2025. Nothing announced initial UK and European prices for the Phone (3a) Lite in October 2025. Those launch figures are useful context, but they are not synchronized current offers; check the price and storage configuration available in your country before deciding which costs less.

| Samsung Galaxy A17 5G | £199 | UK launch price announced by Samsung Electronics on 27 August 2025; no current Samsung price was checked. |

| Nothing Phone (3a) Lite, 8 GB/256 GB | £279 / €289 | Initial UK/EU prices announced by Nothing on 29 October 2025. |
| Nothing Phone (3a) Lite, 8 GB/128 GB | €249 | Nothing’s German store listing showed this price and marked the phone sold out in a 2026 access snapshot. This is a point-in-time listing, not a general stock or market-price claim. |
The Samsung figure is a UK launch price, while Nothing’s figures cover initial UK and European launch pricing. A direct subtraction would compare different products’ announced prices, not necessarily what either handset costs now at checkout.

Display and day-to-day performance
Nothing’s display has the higher refresh ceiling
Nothing lists a 6.77-inch panel with adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz, compared with Samsung’s 6.7-inch, 90 Hz Super AMOLED display. The Nothing screen is slightly larger and has the higher stated refresh rate. Refresh rate alone does not establish which screen looks better in every setting.
The chip specifications do not prove which phone is faster
The two phones use different processors: Samsung’s Exynos 1330 and Nothing’s Dimensity 7300 Pro. The published specifications do not provide a matched benchmark or sustained-performance comparison, so they are not enough to name a speed winner.

Memory configurations also differ in the cited specifications. Nothing lists 8 GB of physical RAM and up to 8 GB of virtual RAM; Samsung says A17 5G configurations start at 4 GB of RAM. Virtual RAM is not additional physical memory, and Samsung’s starting configuration does not mean every regional A17 5G variant has the same memory.

Samsung specifies optical image stabilisation (OIS) for the A17 5G’s 50 MP main camera. Nothing lists a 50 MP main camera without OIS in the cited specifications. OIS is a concrete hardware distinction, but it does not by itself establish which phone takes better photos or video.

For ultra-wide shots, Nothing lists an 8 MP camera and Samsung a 5 MP one. The resolution difference does not determine image quality on its own; the available specifications do not include matched camera testing. Both phones also list a 2 MP macro camera.
Software support and long-term use
Samsung promises six OS upgrades and six years of security updates for the Galaxy A17 series. Nothing promises three major Android updates and six years of security patches for the Phone (3a) Lite. On the stated major-version upgrade commitment, Samsung’s is longer; the manufacturers state the security-support period as six years for both. These are company commitments, not evidence of delivery history.

Both manufacturers specify a 5,000 mAh battery. Nothing lists 33 W charging, compared with Samsung’s 25 W. Nothing’s approximately 20-minute claim to reach 50% is its own figure under its test conditions, not a matched test against Samsung. The available specifications do not establish which phone lasts longer in real-world use.

Both support microSD expansion up to 2 TB
Samsung and Nothing each specify microSD support up to 2 TB. That published maximum does not identify a recommended card or establish that every card will deliver the same performance; check the precise handset variant and card compatibility before buying.
IP54 does not mean waterproof
Both phones are rated IP54. Samsung describes the A17 5G as having limited dust and splash resistance and warns that protection can diminish with wear. IP54 is not an immersion guarantee, so neither handset should be treated as waterproof.
Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy A17 5G if you value Samsung’s longer stated major Android upgrade commitment or want OIS specified for the main camera. Confirm the local RAM and storage variant, since Samsung says configurations start at 4 GB/128 GB.
- Choose the Phone (3a) Lite if you prefer its larger, adaptive 120 Hz display, its listed 8 GB of physical RAM, or its higher stated wired charging rate. Nothing’s 8 GB/128 GB and 8 GB/256 GB launch prices apply to different configurations.
- Compare checkout prices if cost is decisive. The cited launch prices are from different announcements and markets, and the German store snapshot was sold out. They cannot tell you which phone is cheaper where you live today.
- Do not choose on untested claims. The published specifications alone do not settle camera quality, real-world speed, battery endurance or durability.
