For most buyers, the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is the better all-around choice if you value an AMOLED display, more versatile rear cameras and a longer reported software-support commitment. The Moto G Power (2026) may suit you better if its reported 120Hz display and larger battery capacity are priorities—but available comparisons do not establish which phone lasts longer in real-world use.
Check the exact Motorola model before comparing specifications: the Moto G, Moto G Power (2026) and Moto G Power (2025) are distinct devices. The figures below are U.S.-oriented and draw on reporting published in 2026; where sources disagree about the Moto G Power (2026) display, that uncertainty is called out rather than glossed over.

At a glance: Galaxy A17 5G vs Moto G Power (2026)
| Feature | Samsung Galaxy A17 5G | Moto G Power (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 90Hz, as reported by Android Central in 2026 | Sources conflict. Android Central’s January 2026 comparison of the A17 with the Moto G 2026 describes a 6.7-inch HD+ IPS LCD at 120Hz. PhoneArena’s separate comparison for Moto G Power (2026) lists a 6.8-inch 2388×1080 display; Android Central’s January 2026 Power-versus-Power comparison says 6.8-inch FHD+ at 120Hz. |
| Rear cameras | Reported 50MP main camera with OIS, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro | The Moto G 2026 comparison reports a 50MP main camera without OIS and no ultrawide. This is not confirmed as a complete Moto G Power (2026) specification set. |
| Selfie camera | 16MP, according to Android Central’s comparison | 32MP, according to Android Central’s comparison of the Moto G 2026; not confirmed for the Moto G Power (2026). |
| Battery and charging | Reported 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging | The Moto G 2026 comparison reports 5,200mAh and 30W charging; those figures should not be assumed to apply to the Moto G Power (2026) without model-specific confirmation. |
| Reported software support | Android Central reports six Android OS generations and six years of security updates | Android Central reports two OS generations for the Moto G 2026. The exact Moto G Power (2026) policy is not established by the cited comparison. |
| U.S. price context | Android Central reported a $199 launch price and a temporary $170 retail price at publication in January 2026 | The $199 launch price reported by Android Central applies to Moto G 2026, not necessarily Moto G Power (2026). Motorola’s $299.99 MSRP was for Moto G Power (2025) at its 2025 launch. |
| Durability | IP54, as reported by Android Central | Android Central describes the Moto G 2026 as having a water-repellent design rather than an IP rating. The Moto G Power (2025)’s reported IP68/IP69 and MIL-STD-810H claims do not establish the 2026 model’s rating. |
Specifications and prices in this table are attributed to Android Central’s January 21, 2026 comparison, its January 3, 2026 Moto G Power comparison and PhoneArena’s A17 5G vs Moto G Power (2026) comparison. They are reported specifications, not independent tests. In particular, Android Central’s A17-versus-Moto-G article is about the Moto G 2026, while PhoneArena’s comparison names the Moto G Power (2026). Do not combine their specifications as though the two Motorola phones were interchangeable.

Galaxy A17 5G: sharper resolution and OLED contrast
Android Central reports a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate for the A17 5G. That combination gives Samsung the clearer specification advantage for buyers who prioritize resolution and OLED contrast. The 90Hz rate is lower than the 120Hz rate reported for the Motorola models, but refresh rate alone does not determine overall display quality.

Moto G Power (2026): higher reported refresh rate, conflicting screen details
The available sources do not present a consistent display specification for the Moto G Power (2026). Android Central’s comparison is titled around the Moto G 2026 and describes a 6.7-inch HD+ IPS LCD at 120Hz. PhoneArena’s entry specifically comparing the Moto G Power (2026) lists a 6.8-inch 2388×1080 display, while Android Central’s comparison of the 2026 and 2025 Power models describes the 2026 screen as 6.8-inch FHD+ at 120Hz.
The safe distinction is that the Motorola reporting points to a higher refresh rate, while the precise panel details depend on which device the source covers. Confirm the exact U.S. model number and product listing before buying; do not treat the Moto G and Moto G Power as the same phone.

Which phone has the more useful cameras?
Based on Android Central’s reported specifications, the Galaxy A17 5G is the more flexible rear-camera setup: a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), plus 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro cameras. The Moto G 2026 comparison reports a 50MP main camera without OIS and no ultrawide. It describes a 32MP selfie camera for the Moto G 2026 versus 16MP for the A17.
That makes Samsung the more compelling pick if you want an ultrawide option or stabilization on the main camera, while Motorola’s reported advantage is selfie-camera resolution. These are specifications, not a controlled photo-quality comparison: megapixel counts alone cannot establish which phone takes better pictures, especially in low light or motion.

How do software updates compare?
Android Central reports that Samsung promises six Android OS generations and six years of security updates for the Galaxy A17 5G. Its comparison reports two OS generations for the Moto G 2026. The longer stated commitment makes the A17 the better-supported choice on the evidence available, but the exact update policy for the Moto G Power (2026) is not established by those Moto G figures.
Before purchasing a Motorola phone, check the support policy for the exact model and region rather than borrowing figures from another year or another Moto G variant. The 2025 Moto G Power’s reported policy is not a substitute for confirmation of the 2026 phone.

The available Moto G 2026 comparison reports a 5,200mAh battery and 30W charging, compared with 5,000mAh and 25W for the A17 5G. Those figures suggest a larger stated capacity and higher rated charging wattage for the Moto G 2026, but they do not establish the Moto G Power (2026)’s exact specifications or prove longer battery life.

Check the model year before comparing price or durability
Price and durability claims are particularly easy to mix up because Motorola sells different Moto G devices under similar names. Android Central reported a $199 launch price for the Moto G 2026; that does not establish a launch or current price for the Moto G Power (2026). Motorola’s announced $299.99 U.S. MSRP applies to the Moto G Power (2025), not the 2026 model. Samsung’s reported $199 launch price and temporary $170 retail price were publication-time figures from January 2026, not live offers.
Motorola’s product page for the Moto G Power (2025) lists 128GB of storage, microSD expansion up to 1TB and 30W charging; Motorola says a TurboPower 30W charger or higher, sold separately, is required for maximum charging. Those details are not confirmed here for the Moto G Power (2026). Likewise, the 2025 model’s reported IP68/IP69 and MIL-STD-810H claims should not be transferred to its successor. Motorola’s launch details for that earlier phone are in its January 16, 2025 announcement; its U.S. product page is specifically for the 2025 model.
For either phone, compare the exact model, storage, unlocked or carrier version, and current checkout price. Launch prices and temporary discounts are historical context, not a quote for what a retailer charges now.
Which budget phone should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy A17 5G if you want
- A higher-resolution AMOLED display over the 120Hz rate reported for Motorola models.
- More rear-camera flexibility, including an ultrawide camera and reported OIS on the main camera.
- The longer software-support commitment reported for the A17 5G.
Consider the Moto G Power (2026) if you want
- A 120Hz display, after verifying the exact model’s screen specifications.
- A Motorola phone whose model-specific battery capacity and current price you have confirmed. The larger 5,200mAh figure in Android Central’s comparison is for Moto G 2026, not securely established for Moto G Power (2026).
For a discounted Moto G Power (2025), compare it as a separate phone. Its official storage expansion, charging details and launch MSRP do not establish what the 2026 model offers.
