If the Galaxy A16 5G and Galaxy A15 5G cost about the same for the storage and carrier version you want, choose the A16: Samsung documents longer-term software support and an IP54 rating for it. The A15 can make more sense if it is substantially cheaper. Check current offers before deciding; Samsung’s published prices are dated suggested prices, not live retailer quotes.

When the Galaxy A16 5G is the better buy
You plan to keep your phone for years
Samsung says the A16 5G supports six OS updates and six years of security maintenance releases. That is the clearest documented reason to pay more for it over the A15: the promise is relevant if you expect to keep the device well beyond a short upgrade cycle. The statement comes from Samsung Electronics’ 2026 interim report, rather than an independent support audit.

You want some protection from dust and splashes
Samsung lists the A16 as IP54-rated. This indicates limited protection against dust and splashing water; it does not mean the phone is waterproof or safe to submerge. The rating is a manufacturer specification, not a result of independent durability testing. The cited sources do not establish an equivalent IP rating for the A15, so do not treat the two as equal on this point.
You prefer a larger display
Tech Advisor’s comparison says the A16 has a larger display and a thinner design than the A15. That may suit people who watch video or read on their phone, although a larger screen can be less convenient for one-handed use. The cited comparison does not provide a verified, region-specific specification set for every US version, so check the exact model listing if screen dimensions are decisive.

When the Galaxy A15 5G makes sense
The price gap is substantial
The A15 is worth considering if a current, verified offer makes it meaningfully cheaper than the A16. Decide whether the savings are worth giving up the A16’s documented support and IP54 rating, and compare the exact storage capacity, carrier compatibility, and unlocked or carrier-locked status. A low price for a lower-storage or incompatible version is not necessarily the better deal.
You are not buying it for a camera upgrade
The available comparison describes the two camera setups as similar. On that evidence, there is no basis to pay extra for the A16 on the expectation of a substantial camera improvement. The cited material does not establish detailed camera performance, so it cannot support a claim that the phones take identical photos in all conditions.

Check the newer Galaxy A17 5G, too
Samsung’s US Galaxy A-series page now lists newer models, including the A17 5G. Its presence is a reason to check the current A17 offer before choosing an older phone, but the listing alone does not establish the A17’s price, specifications, or value against either model. Compare verified offers and the features you need rather than assuming the newest model is automatically the best deal. Samsung US Galaxy A-series lineup.
