The Google Pixel 8a is the clearest documented upgrade from a Galaxy A04s if long software support is your priority. Google’s current policy explicitly gives the Pixel 8a seven years of Android operating-system and security updates, counted from the model’s first availability on the Google Store in the United States. If you want to stay with Samsung and spend less, the Galaxy A07 or Galaxy A07 5G is the more relevant budget option: Samsung currently lists both for monthly security updates, while a six-year Android-and-security figure is reported by a secondary source and must be checked against your exact country and model.
The Galaxy A04s is not necessarily “unsupported” today. Samsung’s history for model SM-A047M records an Android 14 update released on September 10, 2026, with a security-patch level dated August 5, 2026. That is a regional, model-specific record—not a guaranteed end date for every A04s sold worldwide. Samsung also warns that update changes can differ by model, country and service provider.

Quick answer: which A04s replacement lasts longest?
Choose the Google Pixel 8a when a clearly stated, long support commitment matters more than staying with Samsung. Google names the Pixel 8a in its Pixel 8-and-later policy and promises seven years of OS and security updates from first US Google Store availability. That is the strongest explicit duration in the evidence available for this comparison.
Choose the Galaxy A07 or Galaxy A07 5G when you want a lower-cost Samsung phone and are willing to verify the support term for your market. Samsung’s current security-scope page places both models on its monthly-update list. A secondary 2026 reference says A07 variants receive six Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates, but Samsung’s official scope page does not state that six-year duration. Treat it as a lead to verify, not as an unconditional Samsung promise.

A Xiaomi phone cannot be identified as a safer long-support replacement from the general policy alone. Xiaomi says it typically maintains security updates for at least two years after first shipment, with some models receiving three years or longer, depending on the model and circumstances. Without a model-specific commitment, that statement does not establish a longer term than the A04s.

What the Galaxy A04s support record actually tells you
It launched on Android 12
Samsung Mobile Press product information lists Android 12 as the Galaxy A04s launch software. That matters because “years of support” can mean either the number of major Android versions delivered after launch or the total period during which security patches continue. Those are different measurements. A phone can stop receiving major Android versions while still receiving security fixes, or remain on a newer Android version while its patch cadence becomes less frequent.
One regional history reaches Android 14
Samsung’s firmware history for the Galaxy A04s model SM-A047M records an Android 14 update. The search result identifies a release date of September 10, 2026 and a security-patch level of August 5, 2026. This is useful evidence of what happened to that exact regional model, but it is not a promise that every A04s received the same build, or that another A04s variant has the same remaining life.
Samsung’s own wording is important: “The exact changes may differ depending on your device model, country, and service provider.” Use the model number printed in Settings or on the retail label when checking an update page. The suffix after A047 can determine whether a record applies to your handset.
No precise A04s sunset date is established
The cited pages do not give a guaranteed calendar date when all Galaxy A04s updates end. Samsung’s current security-scope page lists devices that receive monthly, quarterly or biannual firmware security updates. Galaxy A07 and A07 5G appear on the current monthly list; Galaxy A04s does not. An omission from a list is a warning that the phone may no longer be in that cadence, but it does not prove an exact end-of-support date. It could reflect a list’s scope, a regional difference or a transition between servicing categories.
Do not convert the September 2026 A04s patch into a claim such as “the A04s is supported until September 2026.” The release date is when one update became available, and the patch level is the date of the fixes included in it. Neither is an announced end date.
Best documented alternative: Google Pixel 8a
Why its support promise is stronger
Google’s live Pixel support policy says Pixel 8 and later phones receive seven years of OS and security updates from when each model first became available on the Google Store in the United States. Pixel 8a is explicitly named. The policy combines both categories in one stated period, so you do not have to infer a security-only extension from a generic family policy.
That makes the Pixel 8a the easiest recommendation for someone whose main complaint is that the A04s may run out of updates too soon. The commitment is longer and more clearly defined than the evidence available for the A04s, and it is not based on a support-list omission or on a manufacturer-wide statement that may apply only to selected devices.
Understand the seven-year clock
Seven years does not mean seven years from the day you buy a used Pixel 8a. Google starts the clock at first availability on the US Google Store. A later purchase therefore has fewer years remaining than a launch-day purchase. Before buying, find the model’s first-availability date and subtract the time already elapsed.
The policy also does not promise that every owner receives an update on the same date. Google says updates roll out gradually, and timing can depend on the carrier and device. A phone can be covered by the policy while a particular monthly build is still staged or delayed on one network.
Checks to make before ordering
- Confirm that the listing is genuinely a Pixel 8a and not a different Pixel generation with a different support clock.
- Check whether the seller’s model is intended for your country and carrier. Import models can have different radio compatibility, warranty handling or update timing.
- Ask for the device’s current Android version and security-patch date if buying used; these show present condition, not the remaining policy term.
- Calculate the remaining period from Google’s first-US-availability starting point rather than from your invoice date.
- Verify local price and stock independently. No current regional price is established by the evidence summarized here.
Budget Samsung option: Galaxy A07 and A07 5G
What Samsung officially confirms
Samsung’s current security-scope page includes Galaxy A07 and Galaxy A07 5G in the monthly security-update list. Monthly classification is a useful sign that Samsung currently intends regular servicing for those models, but it is not a delivery-date guarantee. Samsung says release timing can vary by device, model and service version.

What the six-year claim means
A secondary reference attributed to Wikipedia contributors in 2026 reports six Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates for Galaxy A07 variants. That figure is not stated on the Samsung security-scope page cited for this comparison. The responsible way to use it is as a model-selection clue: ask Samsung or the local product page to confirm the duration for the exact LTE or 5G SKU sold in your market.

- US Model – Global Connectivity – Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Straight Talk.
Do not assume the LTE and 5G versions share one identical support end date. The secondary report indicates that their support periods can differ, and the evidence does not provide a single region-independent calendar date. A carrier-branded variant can also follow a different rollout schedule from an unlocked model.
When the A07 makes sense
The A07 is the practical choice if you prefer Samsung’s interface, service network and account ecosystem, and you need a budget replacement rather than the most explicit policy available. Its monthly-list status is stronger current evidence than the A04s omission, while the six-year total remains something to verify before purchase.
Ask the seller for the complete model number, not just “A07.” Then compare that number with Samsung’s security-scope entry and the regional support statement. If the seller cannot identify the market or SKU, you cannot reliably attach the six-year claim to the handset in your hand.

Why a generic Xiaomi policy is not enough
Xiaomi’s general support statement says it typically maintains security updates for at least two years after a model’s first shipment. It adds that some models may receive three years or longer, depending on actual conditions. This is a broad baseline, not a model-specific commitment.
Because the policy does not name a particular Xiaomi phone or guarantee a term longer than the A04s record, it cannot by itself answer the question “which Xiaomi replaces my A04s for longer support?” You would need a specific model page, a stated OS-upgrade count and a security-update end date or duration for the exact regional version. Until those are available, do not rank an unspecified Xiaomi model above the Pixel 8a or the better-documented A07 evidence.
Compare alternatives on the support details that matter
Separate OS upgrades from security patches
Count major Android versions separately from security fixes. “Seven years of updates” is unusually clear for the Pixel 8a because Google says it covers both OS and security updates. The A07’s six-year statement, by contrast, comes from a secondary source and needs confirmation. The A04s record proves Android 14 for one variant but does not state how many future versions remain.

Identify the support clock
Ask what event starts the promise: first US Google Store availability, first shipment, launch, first sale or another date. Google explicitly uses first US Google Store availability for Pixel 8a. Xiaomi’s general wording refers to first shipment. A promise measured from launch can leave less time on a discounted phone that has been sitting in distribution for months.
Match the exact market and model
LTE and 5G variants, country codes and carrier versions can change update timing or the duration that applies. Samsung’s A04s page expressly warns about model, country and provider differences. Apply the same discipline to the A07 and Pixel 8a: a family name is not enough evidence for a specific handset.
Distinguish cadence from delivery
A monthly-list entry describes the intended servicing cadence, not a promise that an update arrives on the first day of every month. Both Samsung and Google note that rollout timing can vary. Carrier testing, staged deployment and device-specific conditions can create a delay without ending the underlying support policy.
Check local availability and price last
Support length is only useful if the phone is sold for your market and works on your network. Current local prices, stock and retailer program eligibility were not established in the available evidence. Compare those after confirming the model and policy; do not treat a low sticker price as proof of better value if it shortens the remaining support clock.
Step-by-step: how to verify a phone before you buy
- Record the current phone’s identity. On the Galaxy A04s, open the phone’s Settings and look for About phone to capture the model number. Do not rely on the name printed in an advertisement.
- Check the latest installed patch. Use the Software update screen and note the Android version and security-patch date. This tells you whether the handset is current today; it does not establish its future end date.
- For a Pixel 8a, locate the policy starting point. Use Google’s Pixel support policy and the model’s first US Google Store availability date to calculate the remaining portion of the seven-year period.
- For an A07, distinguish LTE from 5G. Capture the full SKU, compare it with Samsung’s current security-scope list and request a regional confirmation of the reported six-year duration.
- Check the carrier and country. Ask whether the phone is unlocked or carrier-branded and whether the seller’s market matches your SIM and network. Update timing can differ even when the model name is identical.
- Get the promise in writing. Save the manufacturer policy page or regional product statement used for your decision. A retailer’s generic “long-term updates” wording is not a substitute for a stated duration.
- Recheck before payment. Policies and list membership can change. Confirm the page and model number on the day you order, especially for an imported or refurbished handset.
How to handle delayed updates after switching
First, determine whether the delay is normal staging
Google and Samsung both describe gradual or variable rollout behavior. If another owner has an update before you, that alone does not show that your support has ended. Check the phone’s Software update screen, keep it connected to a reliable network and allow the device to complete any pending restart or installation.

Then rule out model and carrier mismatch
Compare the exact model number and carrier with the support entry you used when buying. A regional A04s record cannot be applied to every A04s, and an A07 LTE entry cannot automatically prove coverage for an A07 5G import. If the model is correct but the update remains unavailable, ask the carrier or manufacturer support channel for the rollout status in your country.

Do not confuse a new patch date with a new promise
Installing a recent patch improves the phone’s current security position. It does not reset the support clock or extend a policy beyond the period the manufacturer states. Conversely, an older visible patch can be a temporary rollout delay rather than proof that the phone has reached its end date.
Which alternative fits each buyer?
Choose Pixel 8a for the clearest long-term commitment
Select the Pixel 8a when your first question is, “Which phone has the most explicit long support policy?” The seven-year OS-and-security statement is directly attributable to Google and names the model. Accept that the clock is tied to first US Google Store availability and that rollout timing can vary.
Choose Galaxy A07 for a Samsung-focused budget upgrade
Select the Galaxy A07 or A07 5G when Samsung familiarity and a lower-cost class matter, and you are prepared to validate the exact SKU. Monthly-list status is official current evidence. The six-year duration is useful but secondary until Samsung confirms it for your market.

If your SM-A047 variant is running the latest available software for your region and your apps still work, there is no evidence here that it has an immediate universal shutdown date. However, buying another A04s specifically to obtain long future support would be difficult to justify: the cited record reaches Android 14, the phone is absent from Samsung’s current monthly list, and no guaranteed sunset date is published in the material available for this comparison.
Do not buy an unspecified Xiaomi model solely on a generic policy
Require a model-specific term before treating Xiaomi as the answer. “At least two years typically” can be shorter than the remaining support on a particular A04s and does not identify how many Android upgrades you will receive.
Common mistakes when comparing update promises
- Using a family policy as a device guarantee: Samsung’s 2022 announcement described four One UI upgrade generations and up to five years of security updates for selected eligible devices. It also said non-eligible devices could still receive up to three One UI generations. That announcement does not prove the A04s or A07 received either term.
- Reading a list omission as a cutoff date: The A04s absence from a current monthly list does not establish the final day of all support.
- Counting patches as Android versions: A security-patch date is not an Android-version upgrade count.
- Ignoring the variant: LTE, 5G, country and carrier versions can have different support periods or rollout timing.
- Starting the clock at your purchase: Google’s Pixel policy starts at first US Google Store availability, not at the date you buy the phone.
- Turning a secondary report into an official promise: The six-year A07 figure is reported by Wikipedia contributors in 2026; Samsung’s official page confirms monthly-list presence, not that duration.
- Assuming monthly means immediate: A monthly cadence still allows staged or carrier-dependent delivery.
Bottom line
For a Galaxy A04s owner who wants the strongest documented long-term replacement, buy the Google Pixel 8a after confirming the local model and calculating its seven-year policy clock from first US Google Store availability. For a cheaper Samsung successor, investigate the Galaxy A07 or A07 5G: both are on Samsung’s current monthly security list, but verify the reported six-year duration for your exact LTE or 5G model and country. Treat the Galaxy A04s Android 14 record as a dated snapshot, not a future-support guarantee, and do not infer a precise end date from its omission from Samsung’s monthly list.
