There is no single winner across Samsung’s Galaxy A-series and Motorola’s Moto G range: the right choice depends on the exact models, their current prices in your country, and how long you plan to keep the phone. For a U.S. buyer comparing the named 2025 models, Samsung’s stated software-support commitment is a notable reason to consider a Galaxy A; Motorola’s moto g (2025) had the lower U.S. launch MSRP. Those are launch-era facts, not a verdict on today’s prices or real-world performance.
Which models are being compared?
“Galaxy A-series” and “Moto G” each refer to multiple phones, not one fixed set of features or prices. The available U.S.-anchored announcements cover Samsung’s Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G, and Motorola’s moto g (2025) and moto g power (2025). A useful buying decision starts with a specific pair, such as the Galaxy A26 5G and moto g power (2025), rather than comparing the families in the abstract.

The comparison below uses U.S. launch information from 2025. It does not establish the newest lineup, current sale prices, or availability in every country as of October 2026. Before buying, check the manufacturer’s local product page and the exact retailer listing for the version you intend to purchase.
How did their U.S. launch prices compare?
These are launch MSRPs, not current prices. Discounts, carrier requirements, trade-ins, and stock can change what a buyer pays.

At launch, the moto g (2025) was the lowest-priced phone in this set, while the moto g power (2025) and Galaxy A26 5G shared a $299.99 launch price. That does not mean either remains the cheapest today: compare the live total, including any plan or promotion conditions, for the exact unlocked or carrier model you need. Samsung’s launch details are in its U.S. Galaxy A announcement; Motorola’s are in its North American moto g announcement.
Which brand has the clearer software-support commitment?
For the Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G in its 2025 announcement, Samsung stated support for up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. “Up to” matters: confirm the commitment for the exact regional model and check when its support period begins before using that figure to compare remaining support.
The cited Motorola announcement does not establish a support duration for the two Moto G models. That is not proof that Motorola provides no support; it means a buyer should verify the exact device’s current update policy rather than assume a duration for the whole Moto G family. Motorola’s software security update page is a starting point for checking device-specific information.
If long ownership and a clearly stated update commitment are priorities, the Samsung announcement provides a stronger documented basis for choosing among these particular models. It does not establish that every Galaxy A phone has the same policy or that a particular Moto G will receive fewer updates.

What do the display specifications tell you?
Samsung listed 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED displays with up to 120 Hz refresh for the A56 5G and A36 5G, and a 120 Hz display for the A26 5G. The same announcement stated up to 1,200 nits for the A56 and A36. Motorola described 120 Hz displays and a high-brightness mode of up to 1,000 nits for both announced Moto G models; it specified a larger 6.8-inch display for the moto g power (2025).
These published specifications help narrow a comparison, but they do not prove which screen is more readable outdoors or looks better. Brightness figures may describe particular modes or conditions, and the announcements are not independent display tests. For a close decision, look for hands-on coverage of the exact regional versions, especially if outdoor visibility, color, or display size matters to you.

What about battery, camera, and speed?
Samsung listed typical 5,000 mAh batteries for the A56, A36, and A26, along with Android 15 and One UI 7 at launch. Motorola’s announcement describes the moto g power as a battery-focused model, but its name and marketing do not establish how long it lasts in everyday use. The cited official launch materials do not provide a like-for-like battery endurance test, camera comparison, or performance benchmark for these phones.
For the moto g (2025), Motorola’s support information lists 30 W device-charging capability and says the required Motorola TurboPower charger is sold separately. Charging capability is not the same as a measured charging time, and it does not establish battery life. Do not select a phone based on an assumed camera or speed winner from these announcements alone.

Samsung listed IP67 water and dust resistance for the announced A-series models. Motorola’s cited announcement highlights Dolby Atmos support and audio features including Bass Boost and Hi-Res Audio on the Moto G models. Check the exact model pages for the specifications relevant to your purchase; manufacturer descriptions are not substitutes for independent tests of durability, sound, or camera quality.
How to choose the exact phone for your needs
- Set your current price ceiling. Compare live prices for the precise model and storage configuration. Separate an unlocked price from a carrier offer that requires a plan, trade-in, or other condition.
- Check remaining software support. Confirm the update commitment and support timeline for the regional SKU, especially if you expect to keep the phone for several years.
- Compare the screen you will actually use. Check panel type, size, refresh rate, and brightness specifications, then consult credible hands-on testing if outdoor readability or image quality is decisive.
- Look for model-specific camera and performance tests. Compare sample photos and independent reviews for the exact models rather than inferring a winner from brand or price.
- Verify compatibility and configuration. Confirm carrier bands, unlocked status, storage, and regional model number with the seller and your carrier. Launch announcements do not guarantee compatibility with every network or establish present stock.
So, which budget phone should you buy?
Choose between named models, not brand families. Among the 2025 U.S. announcements, Samsung makes the clearer documented case for buyers who value an explicit long-term update commitment. Motorola’s moto g (2025) had the lower launch MSRP, while the moto g power (2025) offered a larger display than that moto g. None of those launch facts determines which phone is the better value in October 2026: that depends on current local pricing, the exact configuration, and the support and network details of the listing you can actually buy.
