Short answer: The Galaxy A36 5G and A56 5G (2025 models), plus the Galaxy A37 5G and A57 5G (2026 models), are promised up to six generations of Android and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. Samsung’s US Galaxy A-series page also includes the Galaxy A27 5G in its six-year software-and-security lineup. That works out to a planning horizon of roughly 2031 for the 2025 phones and 2032 for the 2026 phones, although Samsung has not published one final patch date for every country, carrier or model variant.

What Samsung’s six-year policy actually promises

Samsung uses two separate measures. “Up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades” means major platform and interface releases. “Up to six years of security updates” means patches that address newly discovered vulnerabilities and maintain system components. The two clocks are related but not identical: a phone can receive a security patch after it has received its last major Android upgrade.

The wording is deliberately qualified as up to. Samsung’s March 2025 announcement for the Galaxy A56 5G and A36 5G, and its 2026 announcement for the A57 5G and A37 5G, tie the commitment to supported devices and the first global launch. Update delivery can still differ by country, carrier certification, model number and service version.

Model-by-model support outlook

Phone Samsung-stated software policy Launch context Planning horizon Important qualification
Galaxy A36 5G Up to six Android/One UI generations; six years of security updates 2025 launch About 2031 Arithmetic estimate, not a published final patch date
Galaxy A56 5G Up to six Android/One UI generations; six years of security updates 2025 launch About 2031 Rollout timing varies by market and SKU
Galaxy A37 5G Up to six Android/One UI generations; up to six years of security updates 2026 launch About 2032 Measured from the first global launch for supported devices
Galaxy A57 5G Up to six Android/One UI generations; up to six years of security updates 2026 launch About 2032 Carrier and regional certification can change delivery dates
Galaxy A27 5G Included on Samsung’s US six-year A-series software-and-security page Use the first global launch as the reference point; Samsung’s page does not state a universal final date About 2032 if its first global launch is treated as 2026 The projection is conditional, not a guaranteed end date for every market

The six-generation and six-year figures are Samsung’s policy statements. The calendar years in the final column are simple planning estimates: launch year plus six years. They should not be read as promises that every regional variant will receive a final update on December 31 of that year.

How to read “six generations” on a Galaxy A phone

Major Android and One UI releases

A generation is a major Android platform release paired with Samsung’s One UI software where Samsung supports that device. The A36 and A56 launched with Android 15 and One UI 7.0. Counting six generations means those phones are eligible for a sequence of major upgrades beyond their launch software, subject to Samsung’s “up to” language and the exact supported variant.

The A37 and A57 follow the same six-generation structure under Samsung’s 2026 announcement. The policy describes the number of major upgrades, not a fixed month in which each one will arrive.

Security maintenance is a separate stream

Security updates can include Android security patches, Samsung-specific fixes and other maintenance delivered through a device’s software channel. Their cadence is not guaranteed to be identical across all countries. A model may receive a security patch while waiting for a larger One UI release, or may receive a major release in one market before another.

Why the projected dates are only estimates

The clock starts with global launch context

Samsung says the six-year commitment is measured from the first global launch for supported devices. That is different from the day a particular carrier starts selling the phone. If a handset reaches a local store months after its initial worldwide release, that later retail date does not necessarily reset the support clock.

Regional certification creates staggered releases

Carriers and regulators can require testing before an update is distributed. Samsung may therefore publish the same firmware in waves, with different dates for unlocked, carrier-branded and country-specific versions. Storage capacity, modem configuration and regional model identifiers can also determine which package appears on a phone.

“About 2031” and “about 2032” are not final patch guarantees

For the 2025 A36 and A56, adding six years to the launch year gives an approximate 2031 horizon. Applying the same arithmetic to the 2026 A37 and A57 gives about 2032. The A27 projection reaches about 2032 only if its first global launch is treated as 2026. Samsung has not provided one universal country-by-country final-update calendar in the policy statements summarized here.

Evidence that the policy is active in current firmware

Samsung’s update records show that the commitment is not merely a launch slogan. The SM-A276B Galaxy A27 5G record lists an Android 16 update with a 2026-08-05 security patch; that release is dated 2026-07-27. The SM-A576B Galaxy A57 5G record lists an Android 16 update released on 2026-09-17 with a 2026-09-05 security patch.

Those entries demonstrate two practical points. First, both models are receiving major Android software under the current policy. Second, the security-patch date and the firmware-release date are not necessarily the same day. Firmware records are SKU-specific, so another regional model can show a different version, patch level or release date.

How to check whether your own A-series phone is up to date

  1. Open Settings on the phone.
  2. Tap Software update.
  3. Select Download and install. The phone checks Samsung’s update server for the exact model and region.
  4. Read the displayed Android version, One UI version, security patch level and update date before installing.
  5. Use Wi-Fi, charge the battery adequately and keep enough free storage for the package. Follow the on-screen restart prompt to complete installation.

If no update appears, that does not by itself mean support has ended. The handset may be outside the current rollout wave, awaiting carrier approval, or running a model variant whose package is released later.

What to do when an update is late or missing

Confirm the exact model and region

Open Settings > About phone and note the model number, such as SM-A276B or SM-A576B. Compare that identifier with Samsung’s update notice rather than relying only on the commercial name “A27” or “A57.” Two phones sold under the same family name can follow different rollout schedules.

Check connection, storage and battery conditions

A failed download can be caused by unstable Wi-Fi, insufficient storage or a low battery. Retry on a reliable network, remove unnecessary files and charge the phone before checking again. Do not interrupt an installation once the restart process has begun.

Allow for staged certification

Carrier models can wait for approval even after Samsung has published firmware for an unlocked or different regional variant. Waiting a short period and checking again is safer than installing an unverified package from a third-party source.

Escalate with the model number and software details

If a phone remains far behind comparable devices, contact Samsung or the carrier with the model number, current One UI version and security-patch date. Those details let support distinguish a normal rollout delay from an account, network or device-specific problem.

What this policy means when choosing between the models

Support length is broadly tied across the listed phones

There is no six-year-versus-four-year split among the A36, A56, A37 and A57 in Samsung’s stated policy: all four carry the same headline maximum of six Android/One UI generations and six years of security maintenance. The meaningful calendar difference comes from launch year, with the 2026 models having a later starting point than the 2025 models.

The A27 belongs to the same long-support family, with a date caveat

Samsung’s US Galaxy A-series page lists the A27 5G alongside the A37 and A57 and describes six years of security and software updates for the series. Because Samsung’s public wording does not provide one universal final date for every country, buyers should treat the A27’s approximately-2032 horizon as conditional on its first global launch timing.

Hardware still determines how useful later software will be

A long policy does not guarantee that every future feature will behave identically to a newer flagship. Storage, memory, processor capability, camera hardware and regional functions can limit which features are enabled. The policy answers “how long will Samsung maintain the phone?”; it does not promise that every future One UI feature will be available on every A-series configuration.

Common misunderstandings to avoid

  • Six years does not mean six years from your purchase date. The reference is the first global launch for supported devices.
  • Six generations is not the same as six security patches. It counts major Android/One UI upgrades; security maintenance is described separately in years.
  • A release in one country does not prove worldwide availability. Model numbers, carriers and certification stages can produce different dates.
  • An approximate end year is not a final-day guarantee. The 2031 and 2032 figures are planning arithmetic based on launch-year information.
  • “Up to” leaves room for implementation details. Samsung’s policy is a maximum commitment subject to supported devices and regional rollout conditions.

Practical buying and ownership checklist

  • Identify the exact model number and sales region before comparing support timelines.
  • Use the first global launch year—not the date you bought the phone—for a rough support calculation.
  • Separate the major-upgrade count from the security-update duration when evaluating longevity.
  • Check Samsung’s software-update screen for the installed Android version, One UI version and patch level.
  • Expect staged releases and carrier certification to affect the date an update reaches your device.
  • Keep backups before a major upgrade and maintain free storage so an update can install normally.

Bottom line for each Galaxy A model

The A36 and A56 are 2025 phones with Samsung’s six-generation Android/One UI and six-year security commitment, giving them an approximate 2031 planning horizon. The A37 and A57 are 2026 phones with the same stated maximum, pointing to about 2032. The A27 appears on Samsung’s US six-year A-series page and has a similar projected horizon if its first global launch is counted in 2026. In every case, regional rollout, carrier approval and model-specific firmware determine when an individual update arrives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Galaxy A phone receive security patches after its last Android upgrade?

Yes. Samsung describes major Android/One UI generations and security-update years as separate parts of the policy, so security maintenance can continue after the final major platform upgrade.

Why does my carrier version show a later patch than another A-series phone?

Updates are released by model number and region. Carrier certification, country requirements and staged distribution can make one SKU receive the same firmware weeks after another.

Does buying a Galaxy A56 later extend its support end date?

No. Samsung ties the six-year period to the device’s first global launch context, not to the date an individual owner purchased it.

Is 2032 an official final-update date for the Galaxy A27 5G?

No. It is a planning estimate based on six years and an assumed 2026 first global launch. Samsung’s public US listing does not publish one universal final patch date for every market or variant.
