Samsung currently lists other checkout financing options, including Affirm and Klarna; their credit-check terms depend on the specific option and are not established by the legacy TD account disclosures.
What the credit-check disclosure actually says
Samsung’s FAQ for the TD Bank-issued Samsung Financing account says that applying required a credit check. The application terms authorized TD Bank to obtain credit, employment, and other information, including consumer reports, to evaluate an application. TD Bank also reserved the ability to obtain additional consumer reports after approval for legitimate account purposes such as account review, a credit-line increase, or collection.

That establishes that the legacy application involved review of consumer-report information. It does not establish whether the application inquiry was hard or soft. The application terms do not use either label, and TD Bank’s general explanation that lenders typically make hard inquiries for new-credit applications is not a product-specific classification. Do not assume a particular inquiry type without checking the disclosure shown for the payment option you are applying for.

Is the TD Bank Samsung Financing account still available?
TD Bank says the legacy Samsung Financing account could no longer be used for purchases after December 31, 2024. Samsung’s pages are not fully aligned: current payment and financing pages list installment options, while some Samsung FAQs still describe the TD-issued account. The official pages reviewed do not clearly establish whether a new customer can open that old TD account.
Samsung’s current U.S. payment pages list options from Affirm and Klarna, but these are not the same product as the discontinued TD Bank account. Their credit-review terms should not be inferred from the TD account’s disclosures. Check the live checkout disclosure for the provider and plan actually offered for your purchase.

What Samsung has said about credit reporting
Samsung’s legacy FAQ says payment history on the TD Bank-issued account appeared on the consumer’s credit report. It does not identify the credit bureaus or say when reporting occurred. This statement applies to the legacy account and should not be treated as a description of Affirm or Klarna reporting practices.

Check the repayment structure before accepting an offer
Credit review is only one part of the decision. Samsung’s legacy FAQ described two different promotional structures, and the distinction affects what happens if you still owe money when the offer ends:
- 0% APR with equal monthly payments: Eligible purchases accrue 0% APR through payoff when payments are made as required. The legacy FAQ gave example minimum purchases of $1,000 for an 18-month offer and $500 for a 24-month offer on select products.
- Deferred interest, or “no interest if paid in full”: Interest accrues from the purchase date but is deferred. If the promotional balance is not fully paid by the deadline, the accrued interest is charged. The FAQ gave examples of six-month offers for purchases of $250–$499.99 and 12-month offers for purchases of $500 or more.
The same legacy page listed a 29.99% standard purchase APR. These figures are examples from a legacy FAQ, not a guarantee of a current offer. Samsung says offers may be limited-time and product-specific, so rely on the terms disclosed at checkout for your purchase.

What to do before submitting a financing application
- Identify the provider and account type. Confirm whether checkout is offering a TD Bank account, Affirm, Klarna, or another payment option. Do not treat every option labeled “financing” as the same product.
- Read the credit-check disclosure for that specific option. Look for whether the provider says it will use a hard or soft inquiry and whether it may review consumer reports for later account purposes. If the checkout disclosure does not answer your question, contact the named provider before applying.
- Review the full repayment terms. Check the APR, payment schedule, promotional end date, and what happens to unpaid balances. In particular, distinguish 0% APR with scheduled payments from deferred interest that may be charged if the balance is not paid by the deadline.
- Confirm eligibility and total cost. Samsung says pay-over-time availability can depend on eligibility, purchase amount, location, and potentially a down payment. Verify the offer and required payment amount before submitting.

Keep business financing separate
Samsung Business Financing is a separate product powered by Credit Key, with its own eligibility criteria. Its terms and credit implications should not be applied to consumer Samsung Financing. Samsung describes business terms from 30 days at 0% through 12 months, for qualifying registered U.S. businesses; those details do not determine the credit-check process for a consumer purchase.
