It can bring food management, meal planning, household communication and entertainment to the refrigerator door, but the exact screen, software and connected functions depend on the model and region.
What is Samsung Family Hub?
Family Hub is Samsung’s name for connected features built into certain refrigerators. Samsung lists it on select four-door French door, four-door Flex, three-door French door and side-by-side configurations. The refrigerator’s layout, capacity, water and ice setup, screen and supported functions vary by model, so “Family Hub fridge” alone does not identify a particular specification.

Samsung describes Family Hub as a way to view refrigerator contents from the screen or a phone, plan meals and shopping lists with SmartThings Food, use recipes, share family notes and calendars, display photos and access entertainment. Samsung also lists built-in SmartThings Hub connectivity and SmartThings Energy on its Family Hub page. Family Hub naming: 32-inch and 9-inch versions
Samsung’s US FAQ says Family Hub 32-inch is the new name for the smart refrigerator feature formerly called AI Family Hub+. The same FAQ calls Family Hub 9-inch the new name for AI Home. Samsung’s overview says the 32-inch screen is “2x larger than previous models.” That is Samsung’s comparison claim; the page’s retrieved text does not make the comparison baseline clear, so it should not be read as a like-for-like measurement across all refrigerators. Samsung Family Hub overview
What the screen and connected features can do
Food viewing and planning
Samsung describes using a phone or refrigerator screen to see what is inside, alongside SmartThings Food features for meal planning, recipes and shopping lists. The experience depends on the specific refrigerator and supported software; food recognition should not be assumed on every Family Hub model.

Household communication and entertainment
Samsung lists family notes, calendars, photo display and entertainment among Family Hub uses. These turn the door screen into a shared household display, but the presence of Family Hub does not establish that every app or feature is available on every model or in every region.
SmartThings connectivity
Samsung says the Family Hub page includes built-in SmartThings Hub connectivity and SmartThings Energy. Connected functions may require network access, setup or compatible devices. Samsung’s October 2025 update announcement specifically says some Family Care, Pet Care and Home Care functions require Wi-Fi and SmartThings activation. AI Vision and software updates: check model and region
Family Hub branding does not by itself mean a refrigerator has AI Vision Inside, or that it supports every AI feature Samsung has announced. In May 2026, Samsung said an update was rolling out to select US Bespoke AI Refrigerators with 32-inch Family Hub and AI Vision. The announced update expands AI Vision food recognition using Google Gemini, adds smarter Bixby voice control and Now Brief widgets. Samsung’s October 2025 announcement also described a refreshed interface for 2024 Family Hub models, improved AI Vision Inside capabilities, Bixby Voice ID and Knox security changes. How to compare Family Hub refrigerators
Start with the refrigerator that fits the kitchen and household, then treat the screen and software as model-specific features. Samsung’s catalog includes different capacities, water and ice systems, screen features and AI Vision Inside support; specifications from one listing should not be transferred to another. - Layout and capacity: Compare the door configuration and stated usable capacity for the exact model.
- Screen and software: Confirm whether the listing specifies Family Hub 32-inch, Family Hub 9-inch or another feature set, and check the model’s current software eligibility.
- Food recognition: Look for AI Vision Inside explicitly and verify supported functions for the model and region.
- Water and ice: Check dispenser, beverage-center and ice-maker arrangements rather than assuming they come with Family Hub.
- Kitchen fit: Check the listed dimensions and depth against the available space, including clearance needed for doors and installation.
- Purchase terms: Confirm current price, availability and warranty on the seller’s or manufacturer’s listing; these vary and are not established by the feature name.
Finding the right replacement water filter
Filter placement and compatible parts depend on the refrigerator model. Samsung advises owners to consult the manual; for Family Hub models, its support article gives this on-screen route: Apps → Fridge Manager → Fridge Settings. Bottom line
Family Hub can add a useful shared screen and connected food, household and entertainment features, but it is a feature family rather than a uniform refrigerator specification. Choose by exact model number: verify the configuration, fit, water and ice setup, screen size, AI Vision support and regional software availability before purchase.
