You may be able to erase a Galaxy phone without entering its Samsung Account password by using Recovery mode, but that does not bypass ownership checks. If a Samsung Account is signed in, Samsung requires its password to complete a reset in Settings. Start by recovering the password; if the phone is locked, understand that a hardware reset erases local data and may still require the Google Account previously used on the device.
Can you reset a Samsung phone without the Samsung Account password?
It depends on how you reset it and what you need afterward. Samsung’s factory-reset guidance says a Samsung Account signed in on the device must be authenticated to complete a reset from Settings. A Recovery-mode wipe can erase the phone without completing that Settings flow, but it does not remove Google Factory Reset Protection (FRP) or guarantee that you can set up and use the phone afterward.

Erasing data and proving ownership are different steps. If you cannot recover the Samsung Account, do not treat a hardware reset as a way around verification. You may be asked for the Google Account previously registered on the phone, or another verification method supported by the device.

If you can reach the phone’s sign-in screen or use a browser, use Samsung’s account sign-in page and choose its password-recovery option. Follow the identity checks offered for that account. Depending on the account setup, recovery may use a registered phone number or email, security questions, or another verification option.

Recovery is only possible through channels you can access. If the available checks do not work or you cannot access the registered recovery details, contact Samsung support rather than trying third-party account-removal or FRP-bypass tools.
If you can open Settings
Back up anything you need before resetting: a factory reset deletes personal data stored on the device. Make sure the phone has a network connection if prompted; Samsung notes that connectivity may be needed to sign out of the account during the process.

- Recover the Samsung Account password and confirm you can sign in.
- On the Galaxy phone, open Settings → General management → Reset → Factory data reset.
- Review what will be erased, then follow the on-screen instructions and enter the Samsung Account password when requested.
Menu names and locations can vary by model and software version. If the labels differ, consult Samsung’s instructions for your exact device rather than assuming another model’s path applies.
If the phone is locked: Recovery mode erases, but does not unlock
Samsung’s forgotten-lock instructions describe entering Recovery mode and selecting Wipe data/factory reset. The button sequence varies by model, so use the directions for the exact Galaxy model and region. Samsung’s France instructions also specify connecting the device to a computer with a USB cable for the Recovery procedure; check the instructions for your model and compatible connection.

This route erases local data. Afterward, Google FRP may require the Google Account previously registered on the device. Samsung describes FRP as a protection for a device that is lost or stolen; its FRP guidance says the protection applies to Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and later. On Android 9 and later, verification may also be possible using the screen-lock method previously configured on the device. What appears depends on the device and its setup.
If you cannot pass the post-reset verification, stop and contact Samsung. Repeating the wipe will not establish ownership or recover data that was erased.

Remote erase: only if you can access the relevant account
Samsung describes remote erasure through Samsung Find or SmartThings Find, and Google Find My Device can also offer a reset route. These options depend on the relevant account and supported setup, and may require confirming the erase. They delete device data; they are not password-removal services, and ownership verification may still appear during setup.

When to contact Samsung
Contact Samsung support or an authorized Samsung service center if account recovery fails, the device remains blocked at setup, or you cannot complete verification. Samsung’s regional guidance may differ, and some locations may ask for proof of purchase. Have the exact Galaxy model and any available ownership documentation ready, and check local service requirements.

Avoid services or utilities claiming to bypass FRP or remove account verification. Samsung’s guidance does not endorse them, and bypass attempts may leave the phone inaccessible or put data at risk.
