To check for newer emojis on a Samsung Galaxy, look for updates in two separate places: Settings for your phone’s software and Galaxy Store for Samsung Keyboard. Neither route guarantees new emoji artwork, and Samsung does not document a universal button to refresh emojis manually. What appears depends on your device and the updates offered for it.
How do I update my emojis on Samsung?
- Check the phone’s software: Open Settings > Software update. Some models or carriers label this System updates. Tap Download and install, Check for updates, or the equivalent option shown on your phone. If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Check Samsung Keyboard separately: Open Galaxy Store > Menu > Updates. Install a Samsung Keyboard update if one is listed. You can also tap Update all to install all available Galaxy Store app updates.
- Check the emoji controls: Open a text field to bring up Samsung Keyboard, then tap its emoji control in the toolbar. Toolbar options can differ by device.
- Review what changed: Check the update information or history in Settings rather than assuming an update contains new emojis.
Samsung’s instructions use different update labels depending on carrier and software version. If an update is offered, read the prompts before proceeding: installation may restart the device and temporarily make it unavailable, including for calls. What is the difference between a system update and a keyboard update?
These are independent checks. Phone software updates are found in Settings; Galaxy apps, including Samsung Keyboard, are checked in Galaxy Store. An available keyboard update is not proof that it adds emojis.

How do I find Samsung Keyboard’s emoji settings?
Open a text field to display Samsung Keyboard and tap the emoji control on its toolbar. To open keyboard settings, tap the toolbar’s gear icon or search Settings for Samsung Keyboard. Samsung notes that toolbar options can vary; its instructions apply to the default Samsung Keyboard, so a third-party keyboard may have different controls. Why don’t I have the new emojis yet?
A check that finds no update means none is currently being offered to your device through that route. It does not show that all Galaxy phones share the same emoji set or receive changes on the same schedule. Samsung says available screens and update availability can vary by model, carrier, and software version. Emoji appearance can also differ between platforms and apps.

To see which software version is installed, open Settings > About phone or About tablet > Software information. If your phone is current but another Galaxy user sees different options, their model, carrier, region, software version, or keyboard may differ. The update screens and release details are the best way to confirm what is available for your device.

No. An update can include other changes, and Samsung does not promise that every system or keyboard update adds emojis. A historical example illustrates why version details matter: Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1 feature page described 88 new emojis and 10 new animations that could be combined into emoji pairs in Samsung Keyboard. That was a feature tied to One UI 5.1.1, not a current universal emoji count or a promise for every Galaxy device. Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1 features page gives the version-specific context.
