Connect a compatible Samsung dryer to your phone through the SmartThings app. You’ll need a Samsung account, the dryer in pairing mode, and the Wi-Fi details requested by the app. First confirm your exact model supports SmartThings: a Smart Care button alone does not mean it can connect to Wi-Fi.
Before you start: check compatibility and Wi-Fi
- Find the exact model number and check its manual or Samsung’s model-specific support information. Samsung lists Smart Control, Smart Monitor, or a Wi-Fi symbol as possible clues to connectivity; features vary by model and market. Samsung’s dryer connection guide explains the setup and compatibility checks.
- Install SmartThings on your phone and sign in to a Samsung account. Samsung Australia identifies a compatible dryer, Wi-Fi, and a Samsung account as prerequisites. Its setup guide notes that app descriptions can vary by software version.
- Power on the dryer and router and make sure the phone can connect to your home network. Samsung Singapore’s regional instructions call for 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi availability, a strong signal, and the phone and appliance using the same router. Treat those as that guide’s setup conditions rather than a guarantee for every model or market. Samsung Singapore’s guide was updated July 14, 2022.
How do I connect my Samsung dryer to my phone?
- Open SmartThings and tap the add-device or plus control. Choose Samsung devices and then Dryer if the app presents those options. Follow the prompts to choose a location and room. Labels and screens can differ between app versions.
- Put the dryer into pairing mode using the control specified for your model. A common instruction is to press and hold Smart Control until AP appears. Some gas, FlexDry, and LCD touchscreen models use different steps, so follow the manual if your controls or display do not match.
- In SmartThings, select your home Wi-Fi network and enter its password when prompted. Keep the dryer and phone within reliable range of the router while the app completes setup.
- Wait for the app to finish registering the dryer to your Samsung account. Do not exit the setup flow before it reports completion.
Samsung describes this general pairing flow in its Gulf support guide and Australia support guide. The available functions and instructions depend on the dryer, software version, country, service provider, and network environment.

What to do during setup on an iPhone
Some Samsung setup flows ask an iPhone to connect briefly to the dryer’s own Wi-Fi network before SmartThings sends it the home network details:

- When prompted, open iPhone Settings > Wi-Fi and select the temporary network whose name begins with “dryer.”
- Samsung Singapore’s documented flow gives the temporary password as 1111122222. Use it only if it matches the prompt in your setup flow; app instructions can vary.
- Return to SmartThings, choose or enter the home Wi-Fi details, and follow the remaining prompts until registration finishes.
This iPhone procedure and password come from Samsung Singapore’s regional guide; follow the current instructions shown in your app if they differ.

Why won’t my Samsung dryer connect to SmartThings?
- The model may not support SmartThings. Check the exact model’s manual and connectivity indicators. Smart Care by itself is not evidence of Wi-Fi support.
- The phone, account, or app setup may be incomplete. Confirm that you are signed in to a Samsung account and have followed the app’s device-addition prompts.
- The Wi-Fi conditions may not match the regional instructions. For Samsung Singapore’s setup, check 2.4 GHz availability, signal strength, and that the phone and dryer use the same router. Other models or regions may have different requirements.
- The dryer may have left pairing mode. Restart the model-specific pairing steps and check for the expected “AP” indicator, if your manual says to use it.
- The app’s screens may differ from a guide. Samsung says instructions and functions can vary with software version and other regional or network factors. Follow the prompts in your current app and consult the manual for your model.
Smart Care is not a Wi-Fi connection feature
Smart Care is a diagnostic process, not a way to pair a dryer with SmartThings. Samsung says Smart Care does not use Wi-Fi; it can help interpret a displayed code in the app. A Smart Care button alone therefore does not show that the dryer supports phone connectivity. If the steps do not match your controls or setup fails, use the exact model number and any on-screen error code when checking Samsung support or the manual. Those details are needed to distinguish an unsupported model from a pairing-control or network issue.
