Yes—some Samsung dishwashers have a Heated Dry option, but it is not standard across the entire lineup. Samsung says most of its dishwashers use condensation drying, while selected models add Heated Dry, Dry+, or AutoRelease Dry. The only reliable way to know what your machine does is to check its complete model code in Samsung’s manual or specification sheet.
What “heated dry” means on a Samsung dishwasher
Heated Dry is a drying option that uses a heater during the drying portion of the cycle. It is different from Samsung’s more common condensation-drying method and different again from Dry+ or AutoRelease Dry. The names can look similar on a control panel, but they describe different actions.

Condensation drying
In condensation drying, the dishwasher uses hot water during the wash and final rinse. That heat turns residual water into steam. The steam then condenses on the cooler stainless-steel interior walls, where it runs down and drains. Air movement helps the remaining droplets evaporate.

This method does not keep every dish hot for the entire drying period. Plastic containers and other lightweight items cool quickly, so water can remain on them even when glassware and metal items are dry. Samsung’s U.S. support guidance specifically notes that plastics are harder to dry for this reason.

Heated Dry
On a model that includes Heated Dry, the appliance activates a heater during drying. That can provide additional heat after the final rinse, but the exact timing, temperature and user controls depend on the model. Samsung lists Heated Dry as an option on some machines rather than as a feature present on every dishwasher.
Dry+
Dry+ is a separate, model-dependent setting. Samsung Canada describes it as raising the final-rinse temperature and extending drying time. That is not the same operation as turning on a heater during the drying stage. A panel labeled Dry+ therefore does not, by itself, prove that the dishwasher has a Heated Dry element.
AutoRelease Dry
AutoRelease Dry uses airflow rather than simply adding a heater. On supported models, the door opens during the final 5–15 minutes of the cycle after the internal temperature falls below 122°F. An internal fan helps move moist air out and is intended to protect the countertop from moisture. The feature is available only on models that document it; if the owner’s manual does not mention AutoRelease Dry, Samsung says the dishwasher does not have it.

Which Samsung models have Heated Dry?
Availability is tied to the exact model and market. One documented example is Samsung’s DW80CG4051: its official specification lists Heated Dry among four available options. That confirms the feature for that model, not for every Samsung dishwasher with a similar name or appearance.

Model families can change controls and drying systems between regions or production years. A model sold in the United States may not have the same options as a similarly numbered appliance sold in Canada or Korea. Treat the full model code—not a broad series name—as the identifying information.
How to check your dishwasher’s exact drying options
- Find the complete model code. Look on the appliance label, inside the door or tub area, or on your purchase documents. Record every letter and number, including suffixes.
- Open Samsung Support for that model. Search the code and select the matching product page rather than a visually similar dishwasher.
- Open the owner’s manual and specification sheet. Check both the listed options and the cycle instructions. Search the documents for “Heated Dry,” “Dry+” and “AutoRelease Dry.”
- Read the control instructions. The manual should show whether an option is selected with a dedicated button, a settings menu or a cycle combination, and whether it is available on every cycle.
- Compare the panel with the documentation. If the label on the machine says Dry+ but the manual does not list Heated Dry, do not assume the two terms are interchangeable.
Samsung directs owners to the manual because settings vary by model. If the manual and the product page appear to disagree, use the document associated with the full model code and contact Samsung support before changing wiring or attempting a repair.
Drying options compared
| Option or system | What it does | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Condensation drying | Uses hot-water heat, cooler stainless-steel walls, condensation and air movement to remove moisture. | Samsung says most of its dishwashers use this approach. |
| Heated Dry | Activates a heater during drying. | Available on some models; the DW80CG4051 specification lists it. |
| Dry+ | Raises final-rinse temperature and extends drying time, according to Samsung Canada. | Model-dependent and not automatically equivalent to Heated Dry. |
| AutoRelease Dry | Opens the door in the final 5–15 minutes after the temperature drops below 122°F; a fan circulates air. | Available only on supported models and documented in their manuals. |
Why dishes can remain wet
Wet dishes do not necessarily mean the dishwasher lacks a heater or has failed. Condensation systems naturally leave some plastics wetter than metal and glass. Loading, rinse-aid use, incoming-water temperature and whether the door can vent also affect the result.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse rinse aid
Samsung recommends rinse aid for its condensation-drying process. Rinse aid helps water condense, run off surfaces and evaporate more readily. Fill the dispenser according to the dishwasher’s instructions and adjust the dispenser setting only as the manual permits. Rinse aid is a drying aid, not proof that a particular model has Heated Dry.

Start with sufficiently hot household water
Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance recommends connecting the dishwasher to a hot-water line with the household supply set between 120°F and 149°F. The recommendation is an operating range, not a measured performance guarantee. Follow local plumbing and anti-scald requirements when setting the water heater.
Load for drainage
Place cups, bowls and containers so their openings face downward or at an angle that lets water run off. Avoid nesting pieces together. Keep spray arms free of tall items, and leave space around plastics so air and water can reach their surfaces. Items with deep recesses can retain water even after the cycle ends.
Vent the tub after the cycle
Samsung recommends opening the door about one inch within an hour after the cycle finishes. This allows humid air to escape and supports evaporation. Only do this when the installation and surrounding cabinetry allow it safely; keep children and pets away from the opening and follow the manual’s clearance instructions.

Plastic cools faster than stainless steel, glass or ceramic. Because condensation relies on a temperature difference between the moist air and cooler surfaces, a plastic lid may still have droplets when heavier items are dry. Repositioning plastics so they can drain is usually more useful than expecting the same result as a heated metal rack.

Check AutoRelease operation
If your model has AutoRelease Dry, the door should open only during the documented part of the cycle, after the temperature has fallen below 122°F. The feature is not a manually forced door release at the start of drying. If the manual does not list it, do not attempt to add or activate it through a service setting.
How to compare two Samsung dishwashers
When choosing between models, compare the actual drying functions rather than relying on a marketing phrase or a control-panel icon.
- Confirm Heated Dry: Look for the exact words in the specification and manual.
- Identify Dry+ behavior: Check whether the manual describes a hotter final rinse, longer drying time, or another operation.
- Check AutoRelease Dry: Verify that the feature is listed and note the documented door-opening window.
- Read cycle restrictions: An option may not be available on every cycle, even when the dishwasher has the feature.
- Match the regional document: Use the manual for the country and full model code where the appliance is installed.
- Plan for plastics: If your loads contain many plastic containers, examine the loading guidance and drying settings rather than assuming a heater will eliminate every droplet.
Do not treat a longer cycle, a hotter final rinse and a heated element as the same thing. The manual’s description is the deciding evidence for how a control works.
Regional differences matter
Samsung publishes separate support information for different markets. Its U.S. pages describe condensation drying and recommend rinse aid, hot-water supply between 120°F and 149°F, suitable loading and brief door opening after the cycle. Samsung Canada explains Dry+ and Heated Dry as different functions. Korean service guidance describes several drying types, including automatic door opening and hot-air drying on certain model families.

Those regional explanations show why a feature found in one market should not be assigned to another model without its own documentation. A Korean model-family example cannot establish the configuration of a U.S. appliance, and a Canadian description of Dry+ should not be used to rewrite a U.S. manual.
What to do if the manual does not mention Heated Dry
If the manual and specification omit Heated Dry, assume the model does not offer that option. Use the documented condensation settings instead: add rinse aid, verify the hot-water supply, load items so they drain and use AutoRelease Dry only if the manual lists it. Do not install an aftermarket heating element or alter internal wiring; those changes can create electrical, fire and warranty risks.
If the dishwasher previously dried normally and has suddenly stopped, document the model code, selected cycle, rinse-aid setting, incoming-water temperature and whether the door opened. Then use Samsung’s model-specific troubleshooting process or arrange service. A sudden change can indicate a component or control problem, while consistently damp plastics on a condensation model can be normal operation.
Bottom line for shoppers and owners
Some Samsung dishwashers have Heated Dry, including the documented DW80CG4051, but Samsung says most models use condensation drying and the feature is not universal. Dry+, Heated Dry and AutoRelease Dry are separate, model-dependent functions. Check the complete model code, read its manual and specification sheet, and use rinse aid, correct loading, suitable hot-water supply and post-cycle ventilation to improve drying on condensation-based machines.
