If you previously synced Gallery with OneDrive, look for those files in the linked OneDrive account and download them from there. Samsung says that Gallery Sync ended on September 30, 2026, but previously synced files remain available in OneDrive. Samsung Cloud’s Restore data option is for supported device data, not missing Gallery photos.
First, identify where the photo was stored
“Samsung Cloud photos” can mean two different things. A Samsung Cloud device backup stores supported data such as call logs, messages, contacts, calendar, clock, settings, home screen, and app data. Samsung says Gallery photos and videos cannot be backed up to Samsung Cloud. Gallery photo syncing was handled through Microsoft OneDrive instead. Samsung’s Samsung Cloud backup guidance explains the distinction.

- The phone is missing supported settings or data: use Samsung Cloud’s Restore data workflow.
- A Gallery photo was synced in the past: sign in to the Microsoft account previously linked to Gallery and look in OneDrive.
- A photo was deleted: check the relevant recycle bin or trash promptly, and confirm you are using the account where it was stored.
Restore supported data from a Samsung Cloud backup
Use this route for data types included in an existing Galaxy backup. The categories available depend on the backup and device; it will not restore Gallery photos that were not part of Samsung Cloud.
- On the Galaxy phone or tablet, open Settings.
- Tap your Samsung account name at the top of Settings.
- Open Samsung Cloud, then tap Restore data.
- Select the backup you want to use, choose the available data categories, and follow the on-screen prompts.
Samsung’s step-by-step instructions are on its Galaxy backup and restore page. Menus and availability can vary by software version, carrier, and country; Samsung says Samsung Cloud is unavailable on Verizon phones and tablets and in some countries.

Find and download photos previously synced with Gallery
Samsung’s US guidance says Gallery Sync with OneDrive ended on September 30, 2026. Photos and videos synced before the shutdown remain in OneDrive, but new Gallery items no longer sync through this feature. This is a retrieval route for existing files, not a way to enable future Gallery syncing. See Samsung’s instructions for photos previously synced with OneDrive.
- Open OneDrive on a phone or tablet, or sign in to OneDrive on a computer.
- Use the Microsoft account that was linked to Samsung Gallery when syncing was active.
- Look in the Gallery folder or the OneDrive location where you saved the file.
- Select the photo or video and choose Download. On a mobile device, the exact menu label or destination can vary by app version.
If the file is not there, verify the Microsoft account before concluding that it is gone. A Samsung account and a Microsoft account are different sign-ins, even if you used the same email address for both.

Recover a deleted OneDrive photo
If the photo was deleted from OneDrive, check its Recycle bin before trying other recovery steps. Samsung says OneDrive retains deleted photos and videos there for 93 days. Samsung’s OneDrive photo guidance describes the recovery option.

Check Gallery’s recycle bin and Google Photos
If OneDrive does not contain the missing image, check the deleted-items area in the app that may have held it. Samsung India’s deleted-photo guide, published August 30, 2024, recommends checking the Samsung Gallery recycle bin, Google Photos Trash, and the signed-in Google account. Labels may differ by region, app, and software version.
- Samsung Gallery: open Gallery and look for its recycle-bin or trash area. The cited Samsung India page does not specify how long Gallery keeps deleted items, so check the current notice in your app rather than assuming a retention period.
- Google Photos: check Trash and confirm the app is signed in to the Google account that held the photo. Samsung India’s 2024 guide says items in Google Photos Trash are permanently deleted after 60 days; verify the current app notice because this is regional support guidance, not a guarantee for every interface or account.
Use this checklist if the photo is still missing
- Confirm the service: Samsung Cloud device backup and OneDrive Gallery sync are separate. A Gallery photo should not be expected in Samsung Cloud’s device-backup restore.
- Confirm the account: check the Samsung, Microsoft, or Google account that was actually used for the backup, sync, or photo storage.
- Confirm the file was stored there: a backup or sync must have completed before the photo disappeared. A service cannot restore an item that was never uploaded.
- Check deleted items soon: OneDrive’s cited retention period is 93 days; Samsung India’s 2024 guidance gives 60 days for Google Photos Trash. Gallery’s retention period is not stated in that guidance.
- Account for device and region limits: Samsung says settings can vary by carrier and software version, and Samsung Cloud is not available on Verizon devices or in some countries.
If you successfully retrieve a file, you can keep a local copy on the phone or computer. Copying to external storage is optional; Samsung notes that external-storage support varies by Galaxy model. See its file-transfer instructions for device-specific options.
