The details below reflect Samsung’s U.S. materials accessed October 4, 2026. Your device model, plan, state, and contract determine the actual coverage, fees, and term.
Samsung warranty vs. Care+: the key difference
A standard warranty addresses defects in materials and workmanship during the applicable product warranty period. Care+ is an optional paid service contract with additional protections defined by the plan. It does not make every repair free, and not every Care+ variant covers the same events.

| What you need to know | Standard Limited Warranty | Samsung Care+ |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Qualifying manufacturing defects during the product’s applicable warranty period. | Plan-defined protection, such as accidental damage and mechanical breakdown; theft and loss require a plan that includes them. |
| Accidental damage | Generally excluded under Samsung’s mobile warranty terms. | Covered under applicable plans, subject to contract terms and claim fees. |
| Mechanical failure | Covered when it is a qualifying defect within the applicable warranty period. | Covered under applicable plans; Samsung’s FAQ says mechanical-breakdown coverage begins after the manufacturer warranty expires. |
| Lost or stolen device | Not covered as a manufacturing defect; theft is an excluded external cause in the mobile terms. | Only covered by a plan that includes Theft and Loss or other applicable theft/loss coverage. |
| Repair or claim cost | Samsung says qualifying warranty repairs are performed without charge, subject to the warranty terms. | Service fees or deductibles depend on the plan, device, and claim. Some advertised repair examples have eligibility restrictions. |
| Duration and enrollment | Product-specific warranty statement controls. | Varies by product and plan; check the applicable terms and enrollment eligibility. |
For mobile warranty coverage, see Samsung’s U.S. Standard Limited Warranty. Computer coverage has its own terms; Samsung’s computing Standard Limited Warranty also focuses on manufacturing defects but should not be assumed to share every mobile-specific exclusion.
Does Samsung’s warranty cover accidental damage?
Samsung’s U.S. mobile Standard Limited Warranty excludes accident-related damage and lists exclusions that include misuse, neglect, scratches and dents, ordinary wear, certain liquid or environmental exposure, unapproved repairs or accessories, theft, and other external causes. The exact terms depend on the product. Samsung’s computing warranty has separate terms and exclusions, including external causes such as collision, fire, flooding, theft, and improper electrical sources.
#1 Best Overall
- Bundle includes a 27-month Axiom care, in addition to the original factory pack.
- 13.1-inch large-screen display
- IP68 water and dust resistance
- S Pen included for note-taking
That makes the standard warranty a poor substitute for accidental-damage protection: a defect that arises during the warranty period may qualify, while damage caused by a drop or spill generally does not qualify as a manufacturing defect.
What Care+ plans cover
Samsung describes Care+ as a service contract covering accidental damage from handling and mechanical breakdown for approved claims, subject to a service fee and the contract. The Samsung Care+ FAQ distinguishes these plan types:
Rank #2
- This bundle includes a 27-Month Axiom care plan extension, beyond the original factory plan.
- Display built for everyday desktop use
- Standard HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity
- Adjustable stand for a comfortable viewing angle
- Care+ with Theft and Loss: Covers lost and stolen devices as well as accidental damage and mechanical breakdown, subject to plan terms.
- Care+: Covers accidental damage and mechanical breakdown, but not theft or loss.
- Care+ Essentials: The FAQ describes mechanical-breakdown coverage.
- New York-only Theft and Loss coverage: The FAQ describes this as insurance for lost and stolen devices.
Samsung’s current Care+ overview lists phones, tablets, and watches as eligible for its Theft and Loss offering; its Care+ offering also lists Buds, Rings, and PCs. Eligibility is product- and plan-specific, so check the terms for your device rather than assuming every product can enroll in every variant.

Does Care+ cover a cracked screen, drops, or spills?
Samsung advertises accidental-damage protection, including drops and spills, under applicable Care+ plans. A cracked screen may therefore qualify as an accidental-damage claim, but approval, repair method, service fee, location, parts, and technician availability are governed by the particular plan and claim process.
Rank #3
- This bundle includes a 13-month Axiom care plan extension, beyond the original factory plan.

Samsung’s overview currently gives same-day cracked-screen and back-glass repair examples of $29 for Care+ and $0 for Theft and Loss at eligible locations. These are page examples, not universal prices or a promise that every device, repair, or claim will qualify. The page notes limits involving area, parts, technician availability, and claim approval.
Does Care+ cover a lost or stolen phone?
Only a plan with theft-and-loss protection can provide that coverage; standard Care+ and the standard warranty are not substitutes for it. Samsung’s overview describes a maximum of three lost, stolen, or unrecoverable-device claims within any consecutive 12-month period for the Theft and Loss variant described. Deductibles vary by device, and the contract controls eligibility, approval, and claim requirements.

How much does a Care+ repair cost?
There is no single fee to apply to every Samsung device or claim. Care+ service fees and Theft and Loss deductibles vary with the plan, device, and event. Samsung’s FAQ says approved-claim service fees vary and that mechanical-breakdown claims have no service fee; accidental-damage and theft/loss claims may have costs. Review the amount shown for your device and claim before filing.
Also compare the full cost and protection rather than just a monthly premium: consider which events are covered, each claim fee or deductible, the plan term, enrollment rules, and exclusions. Samsung’s overview and FAQ are the best starting points for current U.S. plan information, but the governing contract is decisive.

When does Care+ coverage start, and how long does it last?
Samsung’s FAQ says accidental-damage coverage starts immediately, while mechanical-breakdown coverage starts after the Samsung manufacturer warranty expires. It describes mobile terms of two years when paid upfront or three years when billed monthly for several plans; Essentials is described as two years upfront. Product and plan selection matter, so these descriptions should not be treated as a duration guarantee for every Care+ offering.
Samsung’s overview says Care+ may be purchased with a device or within one year, while its FAQ provides mobile-specific information describing a 60-day enrollment period for eligible devices. Since these statements address differing contexts or products, check the enrollment eligibility for your model and state rather than relying on one deadline.
How to check your coverage before making a claim
- Identify the device and purchase details. Find the model, serial number, purchase date, and seller. Samsung’s mobile warranty applies to qualifying Samsung products purchased from Samsung or an authorized reseller and used in the 50 U.S. states or District of Columbia, subject to its terms.
- Find the exact warranty or Care+ contract. Confirm the product-specific warranty period and, for Care+, the plan name and variant. Check the event you need covered, claim fee or deductible, exclusions, term, and eligibility rules.
- Use the appropriate service route. For mobile warranty service, Samsung directs customers to authorized walk-in, mobile, or mail-in options. For Care+, submit a claim through the plan’s process and follow the administrator’s instructions.
- Back up your data and keep proof of purchase. Samsung’s mobile warranty terms require proof of purchase with the original date, serial number, and seller details. Samsung also warns that device contents may be deleted or reformatted during service.
What to remember about the comparison
Choose the warranty when the problem appears to be a qualifying defect; consider Care+ when you want additional plan-defined protection against accidents or mechanical breakdown, or select Theft and Loss specifically if you need that protection. The applicable product warranty and Care+ contract—not a general summary—determine whether a particular claim is covered.
