You do not need an Art Store subscription to display your own photos on a compatible Samsung Art TV. The subscription is for Samsung’s premium, curated catalog; Samsung also supports adding personal images through SmartThings or USB storage. The right choice depends on whether you want a frequently refreshed selection of art or prefer to choose and manage the images yourself.
Do you have to pay for art on a Samsung TV?
No—not to display your own photos or access select free artwork. Samsung’s US FAQ says the full premium Art Store catalog requires a subscription, while personal photos and some free works can be displayed without one. The exact free-content selection depends on the TV and region.

For the US, Samsung lists Art Store membership at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and describes its on-demand catalog as containing over 5,000 works. Those are Samsung’s US figures checked in 2026, not a guaranteed price or independently counted catalog total; prices and availability may change by region or over time. Samsung’s US Art TV page also says supported models and features vary.

Is the Samsung Art Store worth it?
It is most likely to suit you if you want a large, curated catalog that you can change without sourcing and transferring each image, and you are comfortable with the recurring fee. It is less compelling if you mainly want to display a handful of personal photos or your own artwork: Samsung documents ways to do that without the membership.

Samsung Support describes the two options as coexisting: “The Samsung Frame TV comes with its own art gallery, known as the Art Store.” It also explains the personal-photo route: “If there’s a cute photo on your phone that you’d like to display on The Frame, you can add it using the SmartThings app.”
How to add your own photos
Samsung documents two ways to transfer personal images. Choose SmartThings for a phone-based transfer, or USB if you prefer to import from storage connected to the TV’s One Connect Box. Neither method requires buying a USB drive if you use the app instead.

Transfer photos with SmartThings
- Add your compatible TV to the SmartThings app. Samsung’s support instructions require a Samsung Account and internet connection for network-based smart services.
- In SmartThings, open the TV’s Art Mode and choose Add Your Photos.
- Select the images, choose an available artistic effect if desired, and save them to The Frame.
- Choose an image to display or set up a slideshow using the TV’s available controls.
Import photos from USB
- Connect a USB device containing your photos to the TV’s One Connect Box.
- Open Art Mode, then go to My Collection.
- Select the USB device, choose the images you want, and save them to the TV.
Samsung says photos cannot be edited on the TV itself, so prepare any crops or other edits before transferring them. Confirm that your specific TV setup supports the USB connection before choosing a storage device.
What Art Mode controls can you adjust?
Samsung’s support guidance describes using the remote’s Power button to switch between TV mode and Art Mode. Available controls include brightness and color tone, plus automatic behavior based on motion or ambient light. Settings described by Samsung include night mode, sleep-after timing, and motion sensitivity; exact controls can vary by model.

Samsung says Art Mode cannot be permanently disabled. To turn the TV fully off, hold the remote’s Power button.

Samsung’s US Art TV page names The Frame and OLED S95H for Art Mode, but says availability varies. That does not establish that every model or region supports the same Art Store catalog, photo workflow, or controls. Check the specification and support page for your exact TV model and country before subscribing or planning a transfer.
