Samsung announced the Galaxy Buds On on October 1, 2026, making it the first clip-on model in the Galaxy Buds line. The open, around-the-ear design leaves the ear canal unblocked. South Korean sales are scheduled to begin October 27 for KRW 299,000 in black; Samsung has not announced dates or prices for other markets.
What are the Galaxy Buds On?
Galaxy Buds On are open-type wireless earbuds that clip around the ear rather than fitting into the ear canal. Samsung says the form is intended for everyday listening, including walks and outdoor exercise, when users may want to remain aware of nearby activity. This is Samsung’s first clip-on product in its Galaxy Buds family, not the first clip-on earbud overall.

Samsung says it studied different ear shapes and used simulations to position the speakers and battery. It also says the contact area and band elasticity are designed to distribute pressure and keep the buds in place during larger movements. Those are design descriptions, not results from independent comfort or fit tests.

Controls and Galaxy AI functions
Rear-surface touch controls handle music and calls. With a connected Galaxy AI-supporting smartphone or tablet, Samsung says users can access Gemini Live, Quick Voice Memo, Bixby search of recordings, and head gestures for calls, alarms, and message notifications.
These functions are not universal across phones. Quick Voice Memo specifically requires a Galaxy AI-supported device, Samsung Voice Recorder and Bixby apps, and separate configuration of the earbud long-press gesture.

Possibly. The open design leaves the ear canal unblocked, but that does not make playback private. Samsung warns that sound may escape depending on playback volume, ear shape, and surrounding noise; leakage can be more noticeable in quiet places. Its Audio Leakage Reduction feature is not a guarantee that nobody nearby will hear what is playing.

Why is Samsung entering the clip-on earbud category?
The launch arrives as open wireless stereo (OWS) earbuds are gaining share within the broader true wireless stereo (TWS) market. Omdia estimated that OWS shipments reached 11.1 million units in the second quarter of 2026, up 12% year over year, while conventional TWS shipments declined 2%. OWS represented 13.5% of total TWS shipments, compared with 12.0% a year earlier. These are market shipment estimates, not evidence of Galaxy Buds On demand or a consumer preference shared by everyone.
Within OWS shipments, Omdia estimated clip-on models accounted for 61% and ear-hook models for 39% in that quarter. Omdia also forecast annual OWS shipments rising from 43.9 million in 2026 to 90.5 million by 2030; that is a forecast, not an observed result. The figures help explain the category’s momentum but do not predict Samsung’s sales.
What remains unknown before buying?
The launch announcement establishes Samsung’s design and feature claims, but not how the earbuds perform in independent listening, fit, microphone, durability, or battery testing. There is also no confirmed global schedule or non-Korean price yet. Buyers outside South Korea will need to wait for Samsung to announce availability and pricing for their market.
